The Horana Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered that the Assistant Manager of a state bank’s branch in Horana, who was arrested and questioned under detention orders over the disappearance of more than Rs. 30 million in cash from the branch, be remanded until June 23.
When the 54-year-old suspect, Nandana Sarath Kumara, was produced before the court today (09), investigating officers informed the court that further investigations into the incident are ongoing and that they intend to initiate further legal proceedings under the Offences Against Public Property Act.
Accordingly, a report regarding the operational procedures of the relevant bank has been called for, while the court has also ordered an investigation to determine the connection between the money alleged to have been taken out for deposit in ATM machines and the cash discovered inside the bank’s vault room.
Meanwhile, the police withdrew a case previously filed against the suspect under Section 54(1).
The second suspect in the case, a security officer, is scheduled to be produced before court on June 11, while further investigations are being conducted by the Western Province North Crime Division.
