At 9:30 a.m. ET, Trump praised Citigroup on Truth Social, writing: “Wow! CITI was ranked Number 1 in topping M&A Advisory Market by Value in Q1. Congratulations to Jane F and ALL of her great people. They’ve worked really hard! BIG comeback for CITI!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

The president’s post went up just as the stock market was opening, and at one point Citigroup shares touched a high of $137.12, up almost 1.8%. By the end of the day, however, Citi fell 1%, still less than JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs and the S&P 500.

It wasn’t immediately clear which investment banking league rankings President Trump was referring to. So far in 2026, for example, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and BofA Securities all rank ahead of Citigroup in the latest Global M&A Advisor Ranking on Dealogic, a leading financial analytical platform.

While Goldman Sachs was the lead advisor on 196 deals worth a combined $992.3 billion this year, Citi was the lead on 97 deals worth $285.3 billion.

In fact, according to Dealogic, Citigroup has fallen to number 5 among leading mergers and acquisitions advisors in 2026, down from number 4 in 2025.

Leon Kalvaria, Citigroup’s global chair for banking, appeared on Fox Business News early Wednesday, where he was asked about Citi’s position as the leading advisor on power sector deals. Citi advised on four deals worth a combined $41.4 billion in the energy industry so far in 2026, according to Global Data Financial Deals Database.

What is clear is that Citigroup stock has outperformed the S&P 500 this year, climbing 14.3% against an S&P 500 gain of 6.2%, according to FactSet data. By contrast, Wells Fargo is down 12.1%, JPMorgan is lower by 4.1% and Bank of America is off 1% in 2026. Goldman is 13.9% higher, also trailing Citi.

Citigroup is in the midst of a multiyear turnaround under Fraser, involving streamlining business units, cutting jobs and focusing on high-margin markets and services. The stock has risen for three straight years after jumping more than 70% in 2025, almost 42% in 2024 and 19% in 2023.

Americans have more money invested for retirement in passive S&P 500 Index funds than any other investment. The Vanguard and BlackRock S&P 500 ETFs alone manage nearly $2 trillion in assets, with the Vanguard ETF (VOO) recently passing the $1 trillion mark.

But unlike other mutual funds and ETFs, they won’t be managing SpaceX shares any time soon for retail investors who want to get a piece of the action in the stock after Friday’s mega-cap IPO, the biggest in the history of the market.

The index committee that oversees the rules for new stock inclusion in the S&P 500 Index said no to the biggest IPO in history, at least for the first year of its public market trading history.

Faced with a new era of mega-cap stocks — with OpenAI and Anthropic expected to follow the SpaceX IPO on Friday with huge offerings pushing them into the territory of the largest publicly traded companies in the U.S. on day one — the index manager was forced to make a call on whether to move up its standard 12-month waiting period for new stocks.

Unlike the S&P, index committees for the Nasdaq and Russell market benchmarks said they would update their rules. In the simplest terms, here’s what that means for core U.S. market index fund investors.

“If you want SpaceX, you’re not buying the S&P 500. You’re going to buy the NASDAQ 100 or the Russell 1000,” said Strategas Securities chief ETF strategist Todd Sohn on this week’s “ETF Edge.”

SpaceX shares began trading on the Nasdaq on Friday, initially rising to a value above $2 trillion. But if you hold an ETF like VOO, or BlackRock’s IVV, or the State Street SPDR S&P 500 Trust (SPY), you will be waiting for your SpaceX exposure until at least mid-2027.

The decision to leave in place the long window before SpaceX ever becomes part of the S&P 500 is not one that sat well with Peter Haynes, TD Securities’ head of index and market structure research, supported. “Personally, I didn’t agree with the decision,” he told “ETF Edge.”

Haynes said in the podcast portion of “ETF Edge” that it is “a controversial discussion,” but he added, “In my mind, it’s a natural extension of what exists already in global benchmarks.”

He pointed to the example of Saudi Aramco, which when it went public in 2019 was the largest IPO in history. At that time, both FTSE and MSCI created fast-track models for global benchmarks to add the stock to indexes after 5 to 10 days. “U.S. benchmarks were geared to follow the lead of global benchmarks,” he said. “They have a ‘Made in the USA’ stock that is sizable and belongs in benchmarks,” Haynes said.

“What this is doing is setting a precedent that [the] S&P will not add OpenAI and Anthropic when those IPOs happen,” Sohn said.

Sohn said the dueling decisions from the index providers could create an “index war” — specifically, performance dispersions between the S&P 500, Nasdaq, and other indexes.

Haynes added it could be longer than a year, “much longer,’ he said, before S&P 500 investors get exposure to SpaceX because the index committee also maintained its “profitability test” for stocks, which could exacerbate any performance issues between the S&P 500 and other popular U.S. benchmarks.

SpaceX was valued at $1.77 trillion valuation in the IPO, but it remains a high-risk investment with a net loss in the latest quarter of $4.28 billion. OpenAI and Anthropic are burning through cash at a significant rate and racking up losses while generating a substantial amount of revenue. They can be expected to face the same scrutiny from the S&P 500 that SpaceX just did.

For fund investors, there are other ways to get exposure to SpaceX as a complement to a core portfolio position like an S&P 500 fund. A handful of ETFs, mostly thematic space and tech innovation funds, have already been holding SpaceX through pre-IPO direct stakes. There has been a rush by investors into space stocks and space ETFs in the past few weeks. For example, Tema ETFs’ Space Innovators ETF (NASA) launched May 30 and has reached $2.6 billion in assets. It is one of the funds that offered direct access to SpaceX before the IPO.

Risk-oriented investors will also be able to get in on a new wave of leveraged ETFs just launching to offer up to 2x daily performance of SpaceX shares, bullish and bearish bets. ProShares will launch the Ultra SpaceX ETF (SPCF), seeking to get 2x the daily performance of the stock, next Monday. GraniteShares will launch two similar funds: GraniteShares 2x Long SpaceX Daily ETF (SPAL) and GraniteShares 2x Short SpaceX Daily ETF (SNK).

Sohn cautioned that these levered investments come with big boom-and bust cycles and are typically intended for day traders rather than long-term investors seeking diversification. Losses compound rapidly in these investments and expense ratios are relatively high since they are intended as trading vehicles rather than core holdings.

For most investors, the biggest takeaway is that the index they have long relied on to capture the biggest names in the U.S. market is sitting this one out. But expect ETF managers to stay creative with new ideas to meet investors where they aren’t — yet. “I would think some of the smaller independent [ETF] issuers will go to another index provider and they will create an ‘S&P+SpaceX … ‘large-cap+SpaceX’ … ‘+Anthropic.’ … There is nothing the ETF industry can’t do in terms of creativity,” Sohn said.

Property Play covers new and evolving opportunities for the real estate investor, from individuals to venture capitalists, private equity funds, family offices, institutional investors and large public companies. Sign up to receive future editions, straight to your inbox. Commercial real estate is finally flush with cash, seeing record levels of lending activity. That’s the finding of a new credit index provided exclusively to CNBC’s Property Play by JLL, the global commercial real estate services and investment management firm. JLL tracks the number of lenders quoting and the average winning loan-to-value, or LTV, rates going back to 2019. Global credit activity among lenders as well as overall competitiveness of loan terms reached an all-time high in April, driven by both strong refinance demand and large loan placements, JLL found. There was a near-record number of distinct lenders active across all capital sources, from banks to private investors to family offices. As a result, LTV rates are rising. In addition to growing bank appetite, there has been a lot of credit fund activity over the past five years, where investors in private funds, or LPs, have put money into credit vehicles. Government agencies have also been more active in multifamily real estate, and insurance companies are now expanding their real estate exposure. “It’s because those groups can earn a bigger spread by investing in real estate versus something else,” said Lauro Ferroni, JLL’s head of capital markets research for the Americas. “It can be more lucrative for them. That’s No. 1. No. 2 is just that they want to diversify their allocations across different buckets, especially in different economic cycles.” Data centers are driving much of the activity as the massive build-out fuels the real estate industry as well as the broader economy. That is driven broadly by artificial intelligence. “When it comes to the other property sectors, it’s really just their performance fundamentals that are making it relatively attractive for both buyers and also lenders as a result,” Ferroni said. He pointed to the fact that real estate values have repriced since interest rates started to go up in early 2022. As opposed to the S & P 500, which is close to all-time highs, commercial real estate is at an attractive entry point, he said. In other words, there are bargains to be had. Refinancing is also driving much of the credit appeal, according to JLL. Commercial real estate owners aren’t excited to sell their properties at lower values as their debt matures, so demand for refinancing is rising. There are those who, under financial pressure and unconvinced that interest rates will ease and values will rise, are just selling out. In general, refinancing is increasingly preferred. The sudden boom in credit is creating a wider divergence in competitiveness between credit markets and regular investment sales bidding activity. The latter is still below 2021 levels, according to JLL’s quarterly Global Bid Intensity Index. Competition among CRE buyers is growing, but far less dynamically than credit. There was some seasonal softening to start the year, but investors are still drawn to the strong relative value and diversity of commercial real estate. That’s despite the uncertainty in the broader economy and geopolitics brought on by the war with Iran. There is, however, still a gap between buyer and seller expectations, but the global bid-ask spread has narrowed significantly since the market bottom in 2023. JLL’s report notes that it is paving the way for a more predictable transaction environment in the second half of this year. There has also been growing differentiation among specific sector demand. “What’s been notable over the past three months is the continued strengthening of bidding fundamentals in the industrial and logistics sector. As leasing activity has picked up there, the vacancy rates of especially large warehouses has come down quite notably,” said Ferroni. Meanwhile multifamily demand, as measured by bid competitiveness, is weakening. That is due to a recent oversupply that has kept rent growth more depressed, despite a strong job market.

An avalanche of selling on Friday crushed the stock market, a dramatic reversal from record highs earlier in the week. Chip stocks nosedived in the final trading session of last week. There were pockets of weakness in tech ever since Club name Broadcom disappointed on earnings. However, the sell-off on Friday was next-level after a strong jobs report dashed hopes of a Federal Reserve interest rate cut and sent the 10-year bond yield soaring above 4.5%. The S & P 500 and Nasdaq plunged 2.6% and 4.2%, respectively, on Friday, making Tuesday’s record-high closes seem like a distant memory. The massive rotation out of tech into lagging sectors like health care and financials did produce some winners for us. For the week, Eli Lilly rose 2.4%, and Wells Fargo gained 5.7%. When it was all said and done, the weekly losses in the S & P 500 and Nasdaq mirrored Friday’s declines. The S & P 500 snapped a nine-week winning streak. Here is a closer look at what drove the market action last week, starting with the sky-high earnings expectations for Broadcom and two other Club tech names that went unmet. Hot stocks into earnings It started on Wednesday, when Palo Alto Networks shares sank despite delivering a strong beat-and-raise quarter the prior evening. The stock came into the print hot after setting a new record high on Monday. When management reiterated its long-term financial outlook, instead of raising it, the sellers drove the stock down by 5.6%. It didn’t change our view on Palo Alto. We love that management finally showed Wall Street that AI can accelerate its business. That is huge considering how badly cyber stocks had sold off earlier in the year on what Jim Cramer said all along were unfounded disruption concerns. For the week, Palo Alto fell 3.4%. A similar story played out when CrowdStrike reported better-than-expected earnings and forward guidance on Wednesday evening. The stock was down more than 10% during Thursday’s session but closed down less than 4%. Like Palo Alto, CrowdStrike’s weakness can be pinned on falling short of lofty expectations amid near-record-high shares. We were not discouraged . CrowdStrike also showed us that AI is a boon to business. CEO George Kurtz said so himself on the conference call. Unfortunately, CrowdStrike sold off further on Friday, losing more than 8% for the week. But the biggest downer was Broadcom, whose stock fell 12.6% after earnings on Thursday. The price action here might be a little more understandable because it wasn’t just a failure to issue even stronger guidance; it was also a lower-than-expected revenue number in the reported quarter. The AI-related parts of its business were strong. We were also encouraged by management’s forecasting of continued AI semiconductor revenue growth in fiscal 2028. That was not nearly enough to save the stock. Selling continued on Friday, and Broadcom was our worst stock of the week, down 13.7%. The weekly losses in Intel, our newest chip stock, were neck-and-neck with Broadcom. Intel lost 13.5% on the week. We started a position on Wednesday and bought more shares into the decline on Friday. We got into Intel because of its strong central processing unit (CPU) business, which is well-positioned for the agentic AI era. In data center server racks, the ratio of CPUs to GPUs is narrowing. GPUs are graphics processing units, with Nvidia dominating the market. Kingmaker Nvidia Nvidia was down a much more modest 2.9% for the week. At the influential Computex conference in Taiwan on Monday, CEO Jensen Huang announced that Nvidia is entering the personal computer market, with chips based on Arm Holdings’ architecture. Shares of Arm , which is also a Club name, soared 15.7% on the news. However, it was not immune to the selling in chip stocks. Arm shares lost 3% on the week. Arm has been an incredible position for us; shares are still up 213% year to date. There was one big chip-stock winner amid all the carnage. Shares of Marvell Technology gained more than 28% last week. On Tuesday, Jensen predicted that Marvell would be the “next trillion-dollar company.” Before those comments, which sent the stock rocketing higher, Marvell had a market cap of nearly $200 billion. Jim said the sharp rally in Marvell shares was concerning. “These are big moves, and they’re not based on anything other than one person saying it.” Still, Jim remains bullish on Marvell, which is not a Club stock. IPOs and stock sales The other big story of the week, which will carry into next week and beyond, is the deluge of stock expected to hit the market from three massive IPOs. The first one is SpaceX, which is set to start trading this coming Friday. Elon Musk’s satellite, rocket, and AI company disclosed plans last Wednesday to sell 555.6 million shares at a fixed price of $135 each, raising roughly $75 billion at a $1.8 trillion market value. SpaceX is just one of several high-profile IPOs. Anthropic, known for its family of large language models called Claude, confidentially filed its IPO prospectus on Monday. The deal could create a historic share sale for investors ready to jump into AI, as Anthropic recently closed a funding round that valued the startup at $965 billion. The news put Anthropic ahead of rival OpenAI, which is readying plans for a public market listing. The startup was recently valued at a $852 billion post-money. Companies aren’t just raising capital through IPOs. Last week, Alphabet announced plans to sell $85 billion in stock to secure more funding for its AI buildout. Shares of the Google parent fell almost 4% Tuesday on the news and lost 3% on the week. Investors don’t typically like it when companies sell stock to fund investments because it can dilute their existing stakes. The move raised questions about whether other megacaps will do the same. Club stock Meta Platforms sank on Friday after the Financial Times reported that the company could potentially raise tens of billions of dollars in a stock offering to help fund its AI push. Meta lost more than 6% for the week. Jim issued a warning about all these deals, saying that a massive increase in stock supply could create a near-term headwind for the market. The string of big tech IPOs and stock sales could prompt investors to sell existing holdings to raise cash and buy shares elsewhere. “Bull markets can be killed by business conditions or interest rates or geopolitical turmoil, but the thing that most easily leads them to the slaughterhouse is an excess of new supply,” he said during “Mad Money” on Wednesday. “Like any market, when supply outstrips demand, prices go right down.” Jim continued, “I get concerned that stock supply will overwhelm investor demand. Right now, looking at the calendar, I don’t know how we are going to afford all of these deals without taking the market lower. It’s too much capital at once.” (See here for a full list of the stocks in Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust.)

Seemingly every company is obsessed with artificial intelligence these days, whether it’s how the technology is transforming their industry or the effects it’s having on employees and customers.

But the degree to which companies are utilizing AI tools internally and adapting to a rapidly changing reality varies dramatically. A new study from AI-Driven Enterprise Institute (AIDE) breaks down how well S&P 500 companies — and their leaders — are adopting AI compared to their peers.

The top performers, unsurprisingly, are centered in the tech industry, according to the data, which was shared with CNBC. In looking at four areas — literacy, advocacy, orientation and implementation — AIDE gave each company a score of up to 100 in the four categories and then provided an overall index score.

In technology, the highest company score (the average of the orientation and implementation pillars) and the only 100, went to chipmaker Nvidia, which has become the world’s largest company by selling the chips and systems that have powered the development of AI models and services. Meta and Amazon also scored 100, but in the S&P 500, those companies are considered communication services and consumer discretionary names, respectively.

The only other 100 company score went to energy producer SLB, formerly Schlumberger. The next highest scorer was retailer Walmart, followed by AES and NextEra Energy, which are both classified as utilities.

The new open-source index draws from publicly available data like earnings call transcripts, job openings and patent applications to measure how much executives know and say about AI, as well as how much their companies are prioritizing the technology and bringing it into daily operations.

The data doesn’t measure whether AI is driving financial returns, but it’s meant to give leaders an objective way to compare their strategy to their peers without relying on self-reported surveys, said Paul Cheek, AIDE’s CEO and a senior lecturer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

“When a board asks a CEO — ‘How are we doing compared to our peer group?’ — I don’t want it to be speculative,” Cheek said in an interview. “I want there to be some data that they can use to back up what they have to share.”

Cheek said there’s “significant room for improvement” for board members and executives to increase their own AI literacy, adding that boards need to better understand AI “as it relates to the ability to manage risk and strategic investments in the organizations that create value for all of us.”

Here are the the 20 companies with the top overall scores, based on their “orientation” and “implementation” scores:

It was lucky No. 7 for the S & P 500 — barely. The S & P 500 rose 0.13% for the week — extending its run of weekly gains to seven in a row. It was the longest such winning streak since December 2023. Record highs on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday were enough to offset Friday’s awful 1.24% decline. Stocks limped into the weekend after the high-stakes Beijing summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping produced few tangible wins for the United States. Soaring oil prices and rising bond yields also pressured the market. It was not all bad news, as strength in tech stocks supported last week’s record-high sessions. Information technology was one of four S & P 500 sectors higher for the week. It’s unclear whether the market can continue its weekly gains next time around. Until then, here were three driving forces on Wall Street over the past five sessions. Trump-Xi summit At the conclusion of last week’s meetings between Trump and Xi, Wall Street was left with more questions than answers. Boeing was our worst performer of the week, down 7%. Trump on Friday provided new details on what he described as a commitment from China to buy Boeing jets. He told reporters aboard Air Force One that China agreed to order “approximately 400, 450 engines, 200 planes, and a promise of up to 750 if they do a good job.” The president revealed the 200 number in a Fox News interview Thursday. Wall Street estimates were looking for more like 500 aircraft. Neither China nor Boeing has made any announcements. While not thrilled with the developments, we still see a turnaround taking place under Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, who was among the many CEOs on the China trip with the president. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was also there. The summit did not lead to a deal on semiconductors, which took down Nvidia and other chip stocks on Friday. Trump said AI guardrails and Nvidia’s H200 chips approved for China sales were discussed. He said he “thinks something could happen,” but noted that China “wants to try and develop their own.” Nvidia shares were able to gain 4.7% for the week. One bright spot, Xi told American CEOs traveling with Trump the door to business in China will “open wider,” state-backed newspaper Xinhua reported. Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk and Apple CEO Tim Cook were also part of the delegation. Club name Apple gained more than 2% for the week. The U.S.-Iran war was discussed at the Trump-Xi summit. But like many of the other issues, nothing concrete transpired. Trump discussed the Iran war and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz with Xi, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told NBC News . Rubio added that Trump did not ask Xi for help in ending the monthslong war. (Trump said he ripped up the latest peace proposal from Iran.) On Taiwan, Xi told Trump that if the issue is not handled “properly,” it could put the “entire relationship [with the U.S.] in great jeopardy,” Chinese state news outlet Xinhua reported . Trump said he told Xi, “I don’t talk about” whether the U.S. would defend Taiwan from China. What’s next for rates? New Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh has been dealt a tough hand, with prices seemingly going up at every turn. Crude jumped last week on persistent Iran war uncertainty. Bond yields rose on worries about whether Warsh will be able to fulfill Trump’s desire for lower interest rates. A pair of hot inflation reports cast further doubt on immediate Fed cuts. On Tuesday, the April consumer price index came in above expectations , driven largely by war-related energy increases. On Wednesday, investors got an even hotter wholesale inflation report . The producer price index last month experienced its biggest annual jump since 2022. The economic releases came as Warsh won Senate confirmation to be the next Fed chair. Jerome Powell ‘s term as Fed chair expired on Friday, but he plans to stay at the central bank . Powell has two years left in his term as governor. The new data complicates Warsh’s mission to lower rates. If the central bank cuts too fast, it could reignite inflation. Jim Cramer said things can get bumpier from here with stocks near all-time highs and monetary policy still stringent. “This stock market won’t be able to rally for long without the oxygen of lower interest rates,” Jim said Tuesday night . AI trade With all the bumps in the road last week, the AI trade was not one of them. Investors found out once again that investor appetite for AI stocks remains strong, with the blockbuster debut of Cerebras. Cerebras, an AI hardware company that claims its flagship product runs faster than Nvidia’s GPUs, went public on Thursday. It was the largest IPO by a U.S. tech firm in years as Cerebras sold 30 million shares and raised $5.5 billion in total. The chip name had a fantastic first session, jumping 68% by Thursday’s closing bell. Shares tumbled 10% on Friday, but a lot of tech stocks were falling at the same time. We wouldn’t chalk it up to something systemic. We don’t see Cerebras as a threat to Nvidia. Sure, they are competitors, but Cerebras is mostly focused on the ultra-fast processing of daily AI workloads referred to as inference. The IPO wasn’t the only positive sign of strength in the AI trade. Cisco Systems, a former Club stock, had a blowout earnings report on Wednesday evening. Investors cheered the networking company’s surging AI orders. Management hiked its expected AI infrastructure and hyperscaler orders for the 2026 fiscal year to $9 billion, up from $5 billion. We saw this as a positive for Club holding Broadcom , which also has a robust networking business that should benefit from this wave of AI spending. Broadcom shares jumped Thursday to a record high close on the Cisco earnings release. But Broadcom declined modestly for the week after seeing pressure on Friday.
The Senate confirmed Kevin Warsh as the next chair of the Federal Reserve yesterday in the closest vote in modern history. As CNBC’s Matt Peterson writes, the slim margin could be a precursor of the challenges Warsh will face at the central bank’s helm.

Here’s what to know:

The former Fed governor was confirmed with just 54 votes, the weakest support for any Fed chair since the position began requiring Senate approval in 1977.

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., was the only Democrat to vote for Warsh’s confirmation.

A well-known critic of U.S. monetary policy, Warsh has called for a “regime change” at the Fed.

And while President Donald Trump pushes for lower interest rates, Warsh will still need to get enough voting members behind cuts — what could prove a tall order as inflation revs up.

The 56-year-old will succeed Jerome Powell, who plans to break with tradition and stay on as a governor at the central bank even after his term as chair ends.

Trump’s Beijing summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping is underway, and readouts from their meeting overnight reveal the two leaders discussed the Iran war, economic cooperation and Taiwan. A White House official said Trump and Xi agreed on the need to open the Strait of Hormuz, while Beijing’s readout showed Xi called Taiwan “the most important issue in U.S.-China relations.”

In remarks Thursday, Xi said a key question for this week’s summit is whether China and the U.S. can avoid the “Thucydides Trap,” a theory that tensions between a rising power and an established one historically lead to war.

Speaking to CNBC’s Joe Kernen from Beijing this morning, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. is winning the artificial intelligence race against China but that talks between the two countries are an opportunity to develop guardrails. “We’re gonna set up a protocol in terms of how do we go forward with best practices for AI to make sure non-state actors don’t get a hold of these models,” he said.

Prediction market traders think there’s more fuel left in the tank.

While the benchmark is already up more than 16% from its March 30 lows, traders on Kalshi think the broad index has a 59% chance of breaching 8,000 this year. That’s an 8% gain from current trading levels, and the index only crossed 7,000 for the first time in January.

It’s not just traders on prediction markets getting more bullish. RBC hiked its 12-month-forward price target for the index to 7,900 in a Friday note. Head of U.S. equity strategy Lori Calvasina wrote that the average and median of the five models used by the bank to calculate its estimate is 8,100 — implying there may be even upside to her forecast.

Stocks have shrugged off what appears to be a prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a critical passageway for the global supply of crude oil — and a potential re-escalation of the U.S.-Iran war.

Investors instead have embraced an artificial intelligence buildout that appears to be firing on all cylinders. It’s boosting stocks of the companies involved, driving much of the earnings growth the market has been celebrating and pushing GDP higher through increased private investment.

“The AI tech trade has just become so powerful that it’s superseded anything else,” said Peter Boockvar, chief investment officer at OnePoint BFG Wealth Partners. He added that no one wants to miss out on a potential rally if the U.S. and Iran do finalize a peace agreement — even though stocks have rallied so much since the ceasefire announcement. “Momentum has a life of its own.”

Truist Wealth chief investment officer Keith Lerner said that the market’s sharp move higher needs to be put in the context of what happened before the war, when major U.S. indexes traded in a narrow range from late October until March. Current levels in comparison to levels the S&P first hit in October are closer to around 7% higher.

CNBC’s Jim Cramer said the market continues to be driven overwhelmingly by enthusiasm around semiconductors and data center stocks, and next week will test whether investors keep rewarding nearly any positive AI-related development.

“This market keeps going up and up on the same old stuff: news about semiconductors, even old news about semiconductors, retreaded news about semiconductors, even pure conjecture,” the “Mad Money” host said Friday. “Anything remotely positive moves the group higher.”

Technology was the S&P 500’s top-performing sector for the week, up a blistering 7%. The overall index rose 2.3%.

Cramer cautioned investors against making their entire portfolio tied to the data center complex. But, at the same time, he said he has grown more convinced the group represents a long-term shift.

“We are coming around to the idea that these stocks are foundational and must be owned,” he said. “Ideally, I’d tell you to buy them on down days, and there are down days occasionally, but if you don’t have the patience to wait, it’s better to pay up than to not own them at all.”

Cramer later added, “This is still a gigantic opportunity. It’s not too late to buy.”

Here’s what Cramer is watching in the week ahead.

Happy Thursday. If you live in the Sun Belt, you could soon be on the road next to a driverless big rig. Distribution giant McLane is planning to deploy unsupervised, self-driving trucks on routes in the region by the end of the year.

Stock futures are slightly higher this morning after another positive day on Wall Street.

Here are five key things investors need to know to start the trading day:

1. Advanced math

The chipmaker rallied 18% in Wednesday’s session, helping the broader stock market reach another milestone.

Here’s what to know:

2. McDonald’s delivers

Shares are up more than 3% before the bell.

In a statement, CEO Chris Kempczinski said the results prove that the company is able to “drive results even in a challenging environment.” Other restaurant companies have said that their sales slowed in March as consumers felt pressure from rising gas prices.

As CNBC’s Amelia Lucas notes, McDonald’s has leaned into value meals to keep diners coming back. It’s also trying to win over customers with marketing campaigns, featuring tie-in meals with brands like “KPop Demon Hunters” and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.”

3. Fuel to the fire

New government data shows U.S. airlines spent 56% more on jet fuel in March as the Iran war crippled supply and sent prices soaring. In total, domestic airlines shelled out more than $5 billion on fuel in the month.

In Asia and Europe, jet fuel shortages could disrupt the upcoming summer travel season. Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk Box” yesterday, Matt Smith, Kpler’s director of commodity research, likened the fuel deficit to “a slow motion car crash.”

Yet while energy prices spike, quarterly reports from Disney and Uber yesterday both painted the picture of a resilient consumer still willing to spend on vacations and rides. Disney reported a 7% increase in revenue from its parks and cruises division, while Uber posted revenue growth in both its delivery and ride-hailing units.

In a new deal announced yesterday, Anthropic will use all of the compute capacity at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center in Tennessee. The AI startup said the deal will help improve capacity for its paid Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers. Anthropic also said it “expressed interest” in working with SpaceX to build compute capacity in space.

Hours earlier, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said at a conference that the company has had “difficulties” meeting compute demand. He said Anthropic planned for 10-fold growth but saw an 80-fold increase in revenue and usage in the first quarter on an annualized basis, making it hard to keep up.

As CNBC’s Ashley Capoot notes, the agreement between the two companies came as somewhat of a surprise considering SpaceX founder Elon Musk’s previous criticisms of Anthropic. Musk has asked whether there’s a “more hypocritical company than Anthropic” and wrote in February that the startup “hates Western Civilization.”

In a goodbye note obtained by CNBC, Howe encouraged employees to “use your voice.” Howe, who was the only female CEO of a major gambling company, also told her women colleagues to “keep supporting each other and raising the bar.”
