Novo Nordisk said Tuesday it will slash its prices for Wegovy and Ozempic beginning next year by up to 50%, highlighting the growing competition among pharmaceutical firms for customers seeking weight-loss drugs.

The Danish drugmaker said it plans to offer the medicines for $675 per month starting in January 2027, representing a 50% reduction in price for Wegovy and a 35% reduction for Ozempic. Novo Nordisk will also sell Rybelsus, a pill for adults with type 2 diabetes that is sometimes used for weight loss, for the same price.

Novo Nordisk’s decision comes as it competes with Eli Lilly, which sells Mounjaro and Zepbound, injectable medications commonly used for weight-loss, and with providers of other so-called GLP-1 treatments coming to market.

Wegovy and Ozempic are among dozens of drugs sold at a discount on Trumprx.gov, a new online platform launched by the Trump administration that gives consumers direct access to lower prices for roughly 40 drugs.

In November, Novo Nordisk also announced a new pricing plan for Wegovy and Ozempic to reduce costs for some customers.

The company on Tuesday framed its decision as a way to enhance affordability, noting in a press release that it wants to lower out-of-pocket costs for customers with high-deductible insurance plans.

“Private and public payers, as well as patients, want access and have been calling for lower list prices,” Jamey Miller, executive vice president of U.S. operations for Novo Nordisk, said in a statement.

The pharmaceutical company said the price cuts will not impact its “direct-to-patient” prices, the discounted rates that some manufacturers offer straight to consumers.

Suzlon Energy had a rather intriguing September quarter, delivering impressive financial results even as major institutional investors, including FIIs and mutual funds, trimmed their stakes.

The company continued its turnaround momentum, maintaining operating margins above 10% for four consecutive quarters, a clear sign of improved efficiency and disciplined operations. This consistent margin performance highlights Suzlon’s ability to execute effectively and control costs, reinforcing confidence in its operational strength.

On the financial front, Suzlon posted remarkable year-on-year growth. Revenue for the quarter surged to Rs 3,870 crore, up 84% from the same period last year. Net profit grew even more spectacularly, climbing to Rs 1,280 crore, a staggering 538% increase. These results reflect not only stronger execution but also the success of the company’s ongoing restructuring and cost-control efforts.

Despite these stellar numbers, institutional investors reduced their exposure. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) trimmed holdings from 23.02% to 22.70%, while mutual funds cut theirs from 5.24% to 4.91% compared to the June quarter. Interestingly, FIIs continue to hold a much larger stake than the promoters: 22.70% versus 11.74% held by promoters. This underscores the stock’s appeal to global investors even amid recent reductions.

The combination of robust financial growth and shifting institutional sentiment sets up a compelling scenario for Suzlon in the coming months. While the strong earnings demonstrate the company’s improving fundamentals, the recent trimming by investors makes its near-term stock performance an interesting story to watch, both in the market and in India’s broader clean-energy sector.

On the technical side, Suzlon’s stock shows some signs of weakness. The 14-day RSI stands at 45.1, placing it in a neutral zone that is neither overbought nor oversold. Moreover, the stock is trading below all eight key simple moving averages, typically a bearish signal. This indicates that despite the strong quarterly results, the stock’s price has yet to fully reflect the company’s improving fundamentals.According to Trendlyne Forecaster, Suzlon Energy Ltd.’s stock has a potential upside of 34.8% from its current market price. Among 10 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a ‘Strong Buy,’ indicating broad confidence in the stock’s near-term growth prospects.

In the calendar year 2025, Suzlon Energy’s share price declined by 12%, dropping from Rs 62 at the start of the year to Rs 55.

The moves came after several conservative justices joined their liberal colleagues in expressing unease about the broad authority Trump claimed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs on imports. They sharply questioned Solicitor General D. John Sauer on the Trump administration’s legal justification of the tariffs, which critics say infringes on the power of Congress to tax.

Lower federal courts have ruled that Trump lacked the legal authority to impose the so-called reciprocal tariffs on imports from many U.S. trading partners, and fentanyl tariffs on products from Canada, China and Mexico.

Prediction markets, which allow traders to bet on real-world events, often react swiftly to perceived signals during high-profile court hearings. Wednesday’s shift suggested that traders viewed the justices’ tone as an indicator of headwinds for the president’s trade agenda.

The Supreme Court will not issue a decision in the case on Wednesday. It is not clear when the court will release its ruling.

Less than a week after taking his seat, Federal Reserve Governor Stephen Miran on Monday outlined the reasons why he thinks the central bank’s benchmark interest rate is far too high and should be lowered aggressively.

Changes in tax and immigration policy along with easing rental costs, deregulation and incoming revenue for tariffs are creating a different economic landscape that allow the Fed to cut its benchmark rate by nearly 2 percentage points from its current level, the central banker said in remarks before the Economic Club of New York.

“The Federal Reserve has been entrusted with the important goal of promoting price stability for the good of all American households and businesses, and I am committed to bringing inflation sustainably back to 2 percent,” he said. “However, leaving policy restrictive by such a large degree brings significant risks for the Fed’s employment mandate.”

Miran sees the confluence of policy changes from the White House lowering the neutral level of interest that neither restricts nor promotes growth. In remarks heavy with data and citations on theory and interest rate models such as the Taylor Rule, Miran said current monetary policy is significantly more restrictive than the prevailing attitude among his fellow policymakers.

Using standard policy rules, Miran thinks the federal funds rate, a level that banks charge each other for overnight lending but that influences a wide variety of other rates, should be in the low-2% area. The current funds rate following last week’s reduction is targeted between 4%-4.25%.

“The upshot is that monetary policy is well into restrictive territory,” he said. “Leaving short-term interest rates roughly 2 percentage points too tight risks unnecessary layoffs and higher unemployment.”

The views, however, put Miran well outside consensus on the Federal Open Market Committee, where the current approach advocates more caution and a tepid move lower in rates over the next several years.

At its meeting last week, the FOMC voted 11-1 to lower by a quarter percentage point. Miran was the sole dissenter, opting for a half-point cut and putting his individual dot on the committee’s “dot plot” of expectations in a place that would imply another 1.25 percentage points in reductions this year.

Earlier Monday, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem, who like Miran is a voter on the FOMC this year, said he sees little room for further cuts. Likewise, Atlanta President Raphael Bostic — who doesn’t vote this year — also told The Wall Street Journal he would not support further reductions this year.

President Donald Trump appointed Miran to the Fed position following former Governor Adriana Kugler’s surprise resignation in early August. Like Trump, Miran has been a harsh Fed critic, though he and others described the air at the meeting as collegial and professional.

Miran pressed his case Monday for lower rates, insisting that inflation is on its way down, particularly in the housing market where cooling rents that had not shown up in the data now will become more apparent.

Though pushing for cuts, Miran said he is optimistic about economic growth, two positions that under conventional thinking would be at odds.

“My view is that policy is roughly 2 points too restrictive, which is considerably restrictive,” he said during a question-and-answer session after his speech. “Even though I am expecting growth to be a little better in the future, that could get derailed unnecessarily so and create an output gap where one need not exist if we don’t get policy closer to neutral.”

He further cited other administration policies, such as its clamp down on immigration, its move to lower business regulations and cut taxes, and the revenue that will be generated from tariffs and its impact on the budget deficit as disinflationary factors.

“Labor market statistics and anecdotal evidence suggest border policy is exerting a major impact on the economy,” he said. “America’s regulatory patchwork has become a material impediment to growth.”

Economists at the Fed and elsewhere continue to worry that Trump’s tariffs will have a longer-term upward push on inflation. However, Miran said “relatively small changes in some goods prices have led to what I view as unreasonable levels of concern.”

Recent inflation readings, though, have shown prices moving higher and further away from the Fed’s 2% inflation mandate.

Miran is expected to fill the remainder of a term that expires in Jan. 31, 2026, then move back to his position as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers. He peppered his speech with references to CEA research.

The airline is planning its November schedule and Davis told employees in a memo, which was reviewed by CNBC, that they will see a 25% cut in capacity over 2024 “as we optimize our network to focus on our strongest markets.”

The carrier’s capacity was down a similar degree from when it came out of bankruptcy in March through the end of June, and the new cuts point to how the airline is thinking about its near-term schedule as it seeks to reduce costs. The struggling discount carrier is in negotiations with vendors and aircraft lessors, and is evaluating its fleet size, as it tries to shrink itself to find more stable footing, Davis said.

“These evaluations will inevitably affect the size of our teams as we become a more efficient airline,” Davis wrote in his note to employees. “Unfortunately, these are the tough calls we must make to emerge stronger. We know this adds uncertainty, and we are committed to keeping you as these decisions are made.”

When asked how many of its employees would be affected, Spirit told CNBC in an email: “We have engaged our labor unions to discuss the impacts of the network and fleet adjustments on our Team Members, and we will share more as these discussions progress.”

The airline has already announced furloughs and demotions of hundreds of pilots. Some flights attendants have already taken voluntary unpaid leaves of absence.

“Although management has not yet indicated they will seek to make changes to our [collective bargaining agreement], our bankruptcy attorneys working alongside our AFA legal department are prepared for any next steps management may take,” Spirit flight attendants’ union, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, told staff in on Wednesday. “Again, this bankruptcy will be much more difficult than the last one and we must be prepared to act to protect our interests as Flight Attendants.”

Davis said the company is also planning to meet with the airlines’ union leaders in the coming weeks. The airline has already announced furloughs and demotions of hundreds of pilots. Some flights attendants have already taken voluntary unpaid leaves of absence.

Spirit, known for its bright yellow planes, low fares and myriad fees, had been successful but high costs, shifting travel preferences and increased competition from larger rivals threw the airline off course. A failed acquisition by JetBlue Airways left the carrier on its own.

When Spirit emerged from bankruptcy in March, its leaders were hoping to find more stable financial footing. But the carrier avoided big changes in the process and instead focused on a deal with its bondholders, which exchanged almost $800 million in debt for equity, and it was greeted after bankruptcy with persistently higher costs and weaker-than-expected domestic travel demand.

It reported that it lost nearly $257 million since March 13, after it exited Chapter 11, through the end of June.

Earlier this month, Spirit announced flight cuts to 11 destinations and said it wouldn’t start a 12th as planned, while competitors like United Airlines, Frontier Airlines and JetBlue Airways have unveiled plans for new flights to try to win over Spirit customers.

The Bitcoin price and the entire crypto and stock market have been operating at the mercy of the tariff wars ignited by US President Donald Trump after being sworn into office. The initial wave of tariff increases on countries such as China triggered massive crashes across financial markets, plunging the Bitcoin price below $80,000. However, the tariff wars are nearing their end with the latest announcement from the White House regarding trade between the United States and China.

White House Announces Reduction Of China Tariffs

In April 2025, US President Donald Trump had announced a drastic increase of tariffs on Chinese goods to a high 145%, with over 180 countries also seeing tariff increases. This triggered a wave of panic and retaliation, triggering what is now known as the ‘tariff wars.’ As discussions progressed, another announcement in April revealed a 90-day pause on tariffs for other countries, with the exception of China.

Related Reading

While China was yet to exempt, the 90-day pause did have a positive effect on the market as the Bitcoin price recovered, taking the crypto market up with it. Since then, the Bitcoin price has since recovered above $100,000, as well as the stock market seeing multiple green days.

Trade talks have since been ongoing between China and the United States and there has been a stopgap put in place for now. In a statement on the White House website, it was announced that both the Chinese and United States government at the US-China Economic and Trade Meeting in Geneva had agreed to modify their respective applications and implement a suspension of 24 percentage points of tariffs.

This agreement is expected to be in place for an initial period of 90 days, giving both parties time for more discussions toward a resolution. The statement read that this was done in “the spirit of mutual opening, continued communication, cooperation, and mutual respect.”

Why The Bitcoin Price Could Explode

Currently, the rally of the Bitcoin price is being driven by the positive news surrounding the tariffs. So, it is expected that more positive news will continue to drive up the price. The agreement between the US and China states that both countries should have implemented the tariff reduction by May 14, 2025. With only a day left, this deadline could trigger another rally.

Related Reading

As the news of the suspension begins to make the rounds, it signals no negative news coming out regarding tariffs for the next three months at least. This gives time and most importantly, confidence in risk assets such as Bitcoin for investors looking for gains. With the return of investors into the risk market, the Bitcoin price could quickly cross $110,000 as early as Wednesday.

The combination of chips not only reduces the time and cost of training AI models, but also limits reliance on a single supplier such as Nvidia, the source said, noting the industry trend of tapping multiple networks, known as mixture of experts — a technique that allows models to be trained with much less compute.

The company earlier this month said in a paper it was able to use lower-cost hardware to effectively train its own MoE models, reducing computing costs by 20%.

Ant operates Alipay, one of the two major apps for mobile payments in China. Jack Ma founded the company and its affiliate, Alibaba.

Bloomberg reported Monday, citing sources, that Ant has used chips from Alibaba and Huawei for training AI models. Ant also used Nvidia chips but now relies more on alternatives from Advanced Micro Devices and Chinese chips, according to the Bloomberg report.

Ant did declined CNBC’s request for comment.

The company on Monday announced “major upgrades” to its AI solutions for healthcare, which it said were being used by seven major hospitals and healthcare institutions in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo.

The healthcare AI model is built on DeepSeek’s R1 and V3 models, Alibaba’s Qwen and Ant’s own BaiLing. Ant’s healthcare-specific model is able to answer questions about medical topics, and can also help improve patient services, according to the company statement.

The U.S. has sought to restrict China’s AI development by limiting Chinese businesses’ access to the most advanced semiconductors used for training models. Nvidia can still sell its lower-end chips to China.

Elon Musk’s business empire is sprawling. It includes electric vehicle maker Tesla, social media company X, artificial intelligence startup xAI, computer interface company Neuralink, tunneling venture Boring Company and aerospace firm SpaceX.

Some of his ventures already benefit tremendously from federal contracts. SpaceX has received more than $19 billion from contracts with the federal government, according to research from FedScout. Under a second Trump presidency, more lucrative contracts could come its way. SpaceX is on track to take in billions of dollars annually from prime contracts with the federal government for years to come, according to FedScout CEO Geoff Orazem.

Musk, who has frequently blamed the government for stifling innovation, could also push for less regulation of his businesses. Earlier this month, Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy were tapped by Trump to lead a government efficiency group called the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.

In a recent commentary piece in the Wall Street Journal, Musk and Ramaswamy wrote that DOGE will “pursue three major kinds of reform: regulatory rescissions, administrative reductions and cost savings.” They went on to say that many existing federal regulations were never passed by Congress and should therefore be nullified, which President-elect Trump could accomplish through executive action. Musk and Ramaswamy also championed the large-scale auditing of agencies, calling out the Pentagon for failing its seventh consecutive audit.

“The number one way Elon Musk and his companies would benefit from a Trump administration is through deregulation and defanging, you know, giving fewer resources to federal agencies tasked with oversight of him and his businesses,” says CNBC technology reporter Lora Kolodny.

Dutch challenger bank Bunq told CNBC that it plans to grow its global headcount by 70% this year to over 700 employees, even as other financial technology startups have decided to cut jobs.

Bunq, which operates in markets across the European Union, is looking to expand into new regions including the U.K. and the United States, taking on the fintechs already in those countries, including the likes of Britain’s Monzo and Revolut, and American neobank Chime.

Bunq said it needs corresponding talent in those regions to support its global expansion ambitions. To that end, the firm said it plans to see out the year with 735 employees globally — up 72% from its 427 members of staff at the start of 2024.

“Bunq focusses on digital nomads who tend to roam the world,” Ali Niknam, Bunq’s CEO and co-founder, told CNBC via emailed comments.

So-called “digital nomads” are defined as people who travel freely while working remotely, using technology and the internet to work abroad from hotels, cafes, libraries, co-working spaces, or temporary housing.

“We’d love to be able to service our users wherever they go — given the regulatory environment we’re in, this results in us having to have a lot of extra people to make this happen,” Niknam added.

Bunq is currently in the process of applying for banking licenses in both the U.S. and U.K. Last year, the firm submitted an application for a federal banking license. And in the U.K., Bunq is awaiting a decision from financial regulators on an application to become a licensed e-money institution, or EMI.

The digital bank said it was actively looking to hire across sales and business development, product marketing, PR, affiliate marketing, and market analysis, as well as user support, development, and quality assurance.

Many of these positions will be part of a “tailored digital nomad” program that allows staff to work from anywhere in the world, Bunq said.

However, the firm stressed it’s not closing down office space and that many new hires would work in its offices, including in Amsterdam, Sofia, Istanbul, Munich, Paris, Dublin, Madrid, London, and New York City.

A contrast from jobs cuts at other fintechs

Over the past two years, one of the biggest stories in both the fintech and broader technology industry has been companies slashing jobs to cut back on the massive spending implemented during in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.

The operating environment for fintech firms has gotten tougher, meanwhile, with inflation knocking consumer confidence and higher interest rates making it harder for startups to raise money.

In January last year, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase slashed 950 jobs. It was followed by payments giant PayPal, which reduced its global headcount by 2,000 people in early 2023, and then by another 2,500 jobs in early 2024.

Meanwhile, some fintechs are looking to artificial intelligence to take on a growing number of roles.

Swedish buy now, pay later firm Klarna, for instance, said last month that it was able to reduce its workforce from 5,000 to 3,800 over the past year from attrition alone. It added that it is looking to further cut employee numbers down to 2,000 through the use of AI in marketing and customer service.

“Our proven scale efficiencies have been enhanced by our investment in AI, which has driven down operating expenses and improved gross profits,” the company said in first-half earnings.

Klarna said that its average revenue per employee had risen 73% year-over-year, thanks in no small part to the internal application of AI.

Bunq’s Niknam said he doesn’t see AI as a way to help firms reduce headcount, however.

“We’ve been deploying AI systems and solutions years before they became mainstream, [but] in our experience AI empowers our employees to be able to do better by our users, more effectively and efficiently,” he told CNBC.

Bunq earlier this year reported its first full year of profitability, generating 53.1 million euros ($58.51 million) in net profit in 2023. The business was last valued privately by investors at 1.65 billion euros.
