Ethereum Foundation President Aya Miyaguchi has laid out her view of the organization’s new mandate, framing the shift as a necessary reset after internal debates became increasingly strained and the Foundation faced pressure to be too many things at once.

Her comments, posted on X after Vitalik Buterin shared his own view of the Foundation’s direction, arrive during a sensitive period for Ethereum’s core nonprofit. The EF is moving toward a smaller, more focused structure while the broader ecosystem debates its governance role, technical priorities and a wave of high-profile departures.

Ethereum Foundation Enters New Power Era

Miyaguchi said the mandate came from the board, but that she proposed it late last year. The trigger, in her telling, was not a single dispute but a structural problem: EF had become a focal point for competing expectations.

“First, debates that were meant to be technical had started to become political and personal, and at times shaped by quieter incentives,” she wrote. “Second, as EF grew, more and more versions of ‘what EF should be’ began pulling at the core of the organization from every direction at once. I became convinced that trying to satisfy all of them would leave us achieving nothing at all.”

That line goes to the center of the Foundation’s dilemma. Ethereum has long relied on EF for research funding, coordination and stewardship, but its culture has also resisted the idea that any single entity should become Ethereum’s command center. Miyaguchi leaned heavily into that tension, arguing that EF’s reduced centrality is not a retreat from responsibility but proof that Ethereum has matured beyond its first institution.

“We have said it many times: EF is one of many nodes in Ethereum,” she wrote. “I know that is hard to hear for some, because EF was the first group, and in the early years it was essential for making things happen. But it was never meant to stay that way.”

Miyaguchi connected that philosophy to her own history in crypto, noting that she has been in the sector since 2012 and joined Kraken in 2013 shortly before the collapse of Mt. Gox, which she said she helped clean up. That experience, she argued, shaped her understanding of both growth and centralization risk. When she became executive director in 2018, her goal was to help Ethereum grow beyond EF.

The Foundation, she said, made deliberate choices to distribute power rather than retain control. Miyaguchi pointed to EF’s role in incubating and releasing projects such as Uniswap and ENS, supporting ETHGlobal and hackathons, and “funding the funders” through groups such as Gitcoin and Moloch. The guiding question, she said, was always: “how does this stand on its own, without us?”

That strategy, according to Miyaguchi, has left EF with less than 0.2% of all ETH and a role that is now narrower by design. The mandate, she said, is to preserve and accelerate the properties and goals that make Ethereum “uniquely valuable, competitive, and worth building on,” centered on what she called CROPS and “inalienable user self-sovereignty and self-sovereign coordination.”

“We cannot do it alone, and we do not intend to,” she wrote. “But defining this as the north star for the mission, and coordinating with the allies who share it, is the responsibility we are keeping.”

Miyaguchi also pushed back against the idea that a sharper EF means less concern for adoption. She said the opposite is true, arguing that everyday users and institutions both depend on Ethereum’s underlying value proposition. Adoption, including institutional adoption, remains part of EF’s work, she said, but only in ways that fit the mission.

The comments come as EF has seen a notable exodus of senior and high-profile contributors in 2026, including researchers and ecosystem figures such as Carl Beekhuizen, Julian Ma, Barnabé Monnot, Tim Beiko, Trent Van Epps, Josh Stark and former co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak. That turnover has intensified scrutiny over whether the Foundation’s restructuring is a sign of healthy decentralization, internal strain, or both.

Miyaguchi acknowledged the personnel implications directly. “As EF becomes more focused and more opinionated, the team naturally becomes smaller and more concentrated. That is part of the choice,” she wrote, adding that new leaders are already stepping into the mission and that management will provide more details on the new structure and strategy in the coming weeks.

Buterin’s May 24 post set the stage for Miyaguchi’s remarks. He described the EF as still being in transition, emphasized that he does not hold special power over the board, and said another leader is executing much of the current transition. He also framed the Foundation’s future as leaner and more focused, with less emphasis on being the center of Ethereum and more emphasis on preserving the network’s long-term properties.

At press time, ETH traded at $1,986.

Since the bear market commenced in October, Bitcoin market participants have watched out for a price bottom that should precede definitive expansions of the flagship cryptocurrency. Interestingly, a recent evaluation of on-chain data reveals that the Bitcoin market might be approaching the end of this price downturn; however, there is an important caveat.

Miners’ Position Index Falls To Historical Lows – What It Means For Price 

On-chain analyst MorenoDV recently revealed on CryptoQuant’s QuickTake an interesting decline in Bitcoin miners’ activity. This observation was based on evidence from the Bitcoin: Miners’ Position Index (MPI) metric, which monitors whether Bitcoin miners are selling more or less of their holdings than usual, thus indicating the potential injection of sell pressure into the market. 

According to the on-chain analyst,  the MPI recently fell to -1.04, representing one of the lowest levels reached in Bitcoin’s history, and also the third time the 30-day MA has come close to the -1 level. Low MPI levels, as those of the current readings, typically signal reduced selling activity among the miners, meaning the selling pressure from this group is significantly low, perhaps due to increasing block reward accumulation, or expectations of higher BTC prices, or both. 

Generally, this development is interpreted as a bullish signal; however, extremely low readings on the MPI metric only signal a reduction in distribution, and not an equal increase in demand. As such, this “bullish sign” is still incomplete, especially as it does not mark out price bottoms. Notably, MorenoDV points out that most cyclical lows in the BTC price were actually not in perfect sync with extreme MPI readings. Instead, these occurred at moments where the metric was already recovering from extreme lows.

Puell Multiple Records 60-Day Compression — What’s Happening?

In a separate post on QuickTake, on-chain expert RugaResearch provides more insight on Bitcoin miners’ activity by stating the Puell Multiple has been between the 0.56 and 0.98 levels since the final days of January. For context, this metric compares how much miners are currently earning against their 365-day average.

The crypto pundit explains that when the metric shows readings below the threshold of 1 for a prolonged period, miners might be forced to sell some of their Bitcoin. This typically causes more bearish pressure to enter the market, further increasing the likelihood of price downturns.

At press time, the Puell Multiple stood at around 0.663, solidly maintaining its position within the earlier-mentioned range. Historically, extended periods within this range have preceded the Bitcoin price forming a bottom. Notably, RugaResearch cites mid-2018 to early 2019, where the Puell Multiple was suppressed for months before price bottomed at around $3,200.

As is the case with the Miner Position Index, the Puell Multiple does not automatically signal where a price floor would be established; yet, it signals the proximity of a floor formation. As such, investors would have to remain cautious of a final dip before the real bottom.

At press time, Bitcoin trades for $68,686, reflecting a devaluation of more than 2.6% since the past day.

Tomorrow (Dec. 26) marks the 21st anniversary of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, one of the world’s deadliest and most destructive natural disasters, which impacted over 10 countries in the Indian Ocean.

Sri Lanka will observe a two-minute silence island-wide tomorrow (26) from 9.25 a.m. to 9.27 a.m. to mark National Safety Day, in memory of those who lost their lives in the 2004 tsunami and other natural disasters, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) announced.

The national-level memorial ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning in front of the Peraliya Tsunami Memorial Statue in Galle.

According to the DMC, this year’s observances will pay tribute not only to the victims of the 2004 tsunami but also to those who have perished in other natural disasters across the country. In addition, a series of multi-religious programs have been organized at the district level.

On 26 December 2004, a powerful undersea megathrust earthquake measuring 9.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. 

About 20 minutes after the shock, Indonesia’s capital Banda Aceh, which was closest to the epicentre of the earthquake, was devastated by massive 100-foot waves, claiming the lives of more than 100,000.

A series of turbulent waves then ravaged the coasts of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Maldives, Myanmar and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In all, deaths from the disaster mounted over 230,000 in a matter of hours.

Sri Lanka was one of the hardest-hit countries with over 40,000 fatalities and property damage worth several million rupees. Thousands were left homeless as waves pushed debris several kilometres inland, pounding buildings into rubble.

Since 2005, the 26th of December has been declared as “National Safety Day” and on that day commemoration events are held as a continuous national event each year, with the participation of the political leadership in remembrance of all those who lost their lives in the country due to the various natural disasters including the tsunami disaster.

Despite recent fluctuations in the price of Ethereum, accumulation seems to be holding strong, which is observed in the Spot Ethereum Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). With more ETH leaving exchanges and ETFs stacking ETH, the leading altcoin could be poised for a crucial shift in market dynamics, which may be good for its price trajectory.

Smart Money Moves Quietly Via Ethereum Spot ETFs

The broader cryptocurrency market is shifting towards a bullish state once again, and the Ethereum institutional story is subtly transitioning into a new chapter. While price action remains relatively subdued, on-chain and fund flow data show a strong undercurrent as Spot Ethereum ETFs are steadily stacking.

According to Everstake.eth, the head of the Ethereum segment at Everstake, the ETH spot ETFs have been quietly increasing, reaching unprecedented levels. This silent accumulation raises the possibility that major companies are positioning themselves well ahead of the competition, creating long-term exposure while retail attention is still dispersed.

Data shared by the expert reveals that spot Ethereum ETF on-chain holdings have now reached approximately 10.48 million ETH. Everstake added that this is one of the strongest, most consistent accumulation trends ever recorded since the launch of the funds about a year ago.

Given the substantial growth of the funds, the expert has declared that “the future is bullish, and the future is Ethereum.” As ETF holdings rise to previously unheard-of levels, the question now is not whether smart money is going in, but rather what they anticipate.

The steady growth is not observed among other metrics, like the Funding Rates. Currently, the derivatives market for ETH is starting to cool, and funding rates are clearly reflecting this change. However, this is not entirely a bad thing for the altcoin and its price trajectory.

As reported by Sina Estavi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bridge Capital, a declining ETH funding rate is not merely a sign of a cool market. Rather, it is the structure that typically appears on the chart prior to a sustained move.

When funding resets in the absence of aggressive shorting, it usually implies that leverage is not overcrowded, the rally is not overheated, and spot-driven demand can carry the price further. Should ETH register even a modest growth in demand, the market may have room to extend this bullish leg.

Institutional Demand For ETH Is Returning

Ethereum’s recent sideways price movements do not seem to have swayed institutions from acquiring the altcoin. Big firms such as Bitmine Immersion, a leading treasury company run by industry leader Tom Lee, are still scooping up ETH at a substantial rate and scale.

The report from Arkham shows that as of Tuesday, Bitmine has purchased over 138,452 ETH valued at approximately $431.97 million since last week. Following the purchase, the company’s crypto holdings now boost about $12.05 billion in ETH. Despite this massive holding of ETH, the firm still has $1 billion left to accumulate more of the altcoin.

According to blockchain tracker Lookonchain, a cluster of addresses tied to coins pulled from Mt. Gox more than 13 years ago sent 300 BTC to Binance in a single transaction.

Those coins were reportedly bought at about $11 each, meaning the original outlay was roughly $8,151. The transfer is now worth about $33.47 million, a mark-up of roughly 410,624%. Reports have disclosed that about 590 BTC still remain in the same group of addresses.

Wallet Activity And What Changed

Last year, the same owner moved 159 BTC into a new wallet and then left it untouched. This recent move is different because the coins arrived in an exchange hot wallet, where they can be sold quickly.

Traders and market watchers noted the difference: one action kept coins on the chain, the other put them within reach of an order book. Whether the owner chooses to sell some or all of the 300 BTC is not known, but the presence of those funds on Binance makes rapid selling possible.

Market Moves And Flows

Bitcoin’s price recovered to about $115,000 on Monday, after dipping to $102,000 on Friday. That drop triggered billions in liquidations and left traders on edge.

Based on figures, ETFs recorded $2.7 billion in inflows over the last week, and institutional demand showed resilience despite the volatility. Still, the market’s calm is fragile; a large sell order from an old holder could change short-term supply dynamics quickly.

The move was flagged by on-chain analysts and then amplified across social platforms. Exchange inflows from wallets tied to early-era miners or Mt. Gox addresses tend to draw attention because they signal supply that was previously dormant coming back into circulation. In this case, the numbers are large enough to get traders’ attention.

Possible Scenarios And Risks

If some of the 300 BTC is sold, price pressure may increase, particularly during thin trading windows. Alternatively, the transfer could be part of estate consolidation or a decision to move funds to cold storage, in which case selling may not follow.

Early adopters have seen massive upside in Bitcoin over the years. This whale’s 2022 withdrawal came just before a multi-year price boom. Since then, Bitcoin has climbed nearly 300%.

Technical Indicators Show Mixed Signals

On the charts, BTC seems to be shaping an inverse cup-and-handle pattern with a significant neckline at $100,800 serving as major support. The price has fallen into the handle stage, and a dip below $100,800 could propel Bitcoin to $91,000, which coincides with its 200-day exponential moving average (EMA).

Bitcoin’s relative strength index (RSI) is 52, indicating the bullish momentum is fading. A fall below 50 could introduce additional selling pressure. For the bulls to regain control, BTC must recapture the 20-day EMA resistance, which is just above $105,000.

Cassie, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura, alleged in the suit filed against the producer and music mogul in New York federal court that Combs brought her into his “ostentatious, fast-paced, and drug-fueled lifestyle” not long after she met him and signed to his label when she was 19 and he was 37 in 2005.

Attorney Ben Brafman said Combs “vehemently denies” the allegations.

Ventura, now 37 herself, said Combs, now 54, began the pattern of abuse began as soon as their relationship did.

The suit alleges that, “prone to uncontrollable rage,” he subjected her to “savage” beatings in which he punched, kicked and stomped her. It alleges he plied her with drugs, and forced her to have sex with other men while he masturbated and filmed them.

The suit says that as she was trying to end the relationship in 2018, Combs forced her into her Los Angeles home and raped her.

“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” Ventura said in a statement.

The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they have been sexually abused unless they come forward publicly as Ventura has.

Brafman called the allegations “lies.”

“For the past six months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail,” he said in a statement. “Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combs’s reputation and seeking a payday.”

Ventura’s lawyer Douglas Wigdor responded in a statement that Combs offered her “eight figures to silence her and prevent her the filing of this lawsuit. She rejected his efforts and decided to give a voice to all woman who suffer in silence.”

Combs is among the most influential hip-hop producers and executives of the past three decades.

He and Ventura began dating in 2007 and had an on-and-off relationship for more than a decade.

She became known for the Ryan Leslie-produced hit single “Me & U,” which secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart in 2006. The song was the lead single of her only studio album, which was self-titled.

As an actor, she has appeared in several television and films projects including Fox’s “Empire,” “Step Up 2:The Streets” and “Spenser Confidential.”

Combs built one of hip-hop’s biggest empires, blazing a trail with several entities attached to his famous name. He is the founder of Bad Boy Records and a three-time Grammy winner who has worked with a slew of top-tier artists including Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Usher, Lil Kim, Faith Evans and 112.

The mogul created the fashion clothing line Sean John, launched the Revolt TV channel with a focus on music, and produced the reality show “Making the Band” for MTV.

This year, he released his fifth studio album “The Love Album: Off the Grid,” which earned two Grammy nominations this month.

The lawsuit cites a speech Combs gave while receiving a lifetime achievement honor at the BET Awards in 2022, in which he thanked Ventura for “holding me down in the dark times, love.”

The suit says, “The truth, however, is that Cassie — Ms. Casandra Ventura — was held down by Mr. Combs and endured over a decade of his violent behavior and disturbed demands.”
