Hong Kong-based CLSA, one of Asia’s most recognisable brokerage brands, is set to disappear next year, more than a decade after coming under the ownership of China’s Citic Securities, a report by Financial Times stated.

According to two people familiar with the matter, CLSA employees in senior positions have been informed that the firm will operate solely under the Citic name from the second quarter of 2027. Citic Securities, China’s state-owned financial services giant, acquired the Hong Kong-headquartered brokerage in 2013.

The move will mark the end of a brand that built a distinctive identity across Asian financial markets. CLSA’s blue-and-yellow branding and unconventional sales culture helped it stand apart from rivals and made it one of the region’s most widely recognised brokerage houses.

Founded in 1986 by journalists Gary Coull and Jim Walker, CLSA grew rapidly by leveraging its independent culture, agile structure and founders’ non-traditional backgrounds to compete with much larger players in the industry.

Among its most notable contributions were its annual investor gatherings in Hong Kong, Tokyo and other financial centres. The events became famous for attracting influential speakers ranging from former US presidents and Federal Reserve chairs to celebrities such as Kylie Minogue and Mike Tyson.

According to the FT news report, sources said the rebranding underscores Citic’s push to align CLSA more closely with its own institutional culture, marking a shift for a brokerage that built its reputation on a more freewheeling style.

Evidence of that shift emerged last month when CLSA Japan scaled back its long-running conference in Tokyo, an event it has hosted since the early 2000s. Organisers were instructed to stop using the title “Investor Forum”, and the conference was instead renamed “Access Japan 2026”, the FT article stated. The Tokyo event was also affected by worsening relations between Japan and China. The diplomatic dispute began after comments by Japan’s prime minister concerning Taiwan and has strained ties between the two countries for more than six months.

Because CLSA is owned by China’s largest investment bank, the tensions had a direct impact on the conference. Chinese authorities issued official travel guidance discouraging citizens from visiting Japan, effectively preventing Citic from inviting Chinese clients to the event or sending its own employees to attend. The Citic brand was not associated with the CLSA conference.

The period following the Tokyo event was marked by senior departures from CLSA’s Japan business. Four senior bankers resigned within two weeks, including the former country manager.

The SpaceX IPO is expected to mint thousands of new millionaires and multiple new billionaires. While current and former employees won’t be able to sell their shares right away, some are already planning how to spend their windfall.

That newfound wealth could have a ripple effect across the luxury property markets near SpaceX’s office hubs and boost spending on watches, private jet charters and other status symbols, experts told CNBC.

Real estate agent Gerard Bisignano said he has recently received inquiries from several long-time SpaceX employees looking for homes in the South Bay area of California. They range in age from their mid-30s to early 40s, he said.

“They seem to be in a state of disbelief themselves that they’re suddenly going to be able to, in some examples, buy a home for their parents. They’re going to have all this discretionary income that they can really do what they want,” said Bisignano, a partner at Vista Sotheby’s.

SpaceX’s California office is a short drive away from the wealthy coastal communities of Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Palos Verdes Estates. Bisignano said he expects many SpaceX employees to snap up high-end homes in the area. He noted there was a similar buying spree in the neighborhoods around the Facebook headquarters after that company’s IPO in 2012, with home values there jumping 21%.

Bisignano said he also anticipates an influx in interest for second homes in other scenic California locales like Mammoth Lakes, Palm Springs and Tahoe.

Texas real estate agent Gary Dolch said he’s seeing similar interest from SpaceX employees in the greater Austin area, with SpaceX’s Bastrop campus located roughly 30 miles from downtown Austin. Some plan to buy soon after taking a margin loan, while others are waiting for the IPO lockup period to end, he said.

Prospective homebuyers’ tastes run the gamut from luxury condos on Lake Austin or Lake Travis to 1,000-acre ranches farther from the city, Dolch said. He added that he’s optimistic that the IPO will boost the luxury market in Austin, which has softened over past three to four years.

“It feels like we’re on the verge of the next wave in Austin’s expansion fueled by this tech run,” he said.

The newly wealthy rarely stop their spending spree at a dream home, Bisignano said. He expects buyers to vie for homes with four-car garages to fit their brand new Ferraris.

And while sports cars are a popular choice, luxury watches are a more practical status symbol for every day use.

Paul Altieri, CEO and founder of Bob’s Watches, said a watch is often the first luxury purchase after a major liquidity event. He said customers usually opt for Rolexes as they are instantly recognizable. Models like the Daytona, GMT-Master II and Submariner are most popular, he added.

“The watch becomes a reminder of that accomplishment every time they put it on,” he said. “The stock certificate stays in a brokerage account. The watch goes on your wrist.”

John Shmerler, CEO of The 1916 Company, a luxury watch and jewelry retailer, said customers who have been waiting for years are often willing to pay a premium for pre-owned timepieces by trophy brands like Patek Philippe and F.P. Journe.

The splurge doesn’t stop there. While some SpaceX employees may have already flown first class, the IPO will enable many to fly private.

D.J. Hanlon, executive vice president of sales at Flexjet, and Kolin Jones, founder and CEO of Amalfi Jets, said their private jet companies have seen recent inquiries specifically related to the SpaceX IPO.

Jones said clients are already chartering jets to celebrate the occasion with a trip.

The top choice for celebrating a liquidity event is Las Vegas, especially for younger fliers traveling without children, Jones said. Miami and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, are also popular destinations.

Fliers looking to take the entire family on vacation, however, lean toward Aspen, Colorado, and Yellowstone National Park, Jones said. And Disney World is a classic choice for local families with young children who want to avoid the hassle of airport security, he added.

With newly wealthy customers, the Amalfi Jets sales team sometimes receives follow-up calls from wealth managers asking to cancel their clients’ charter or downgrade to smaller jets, Jones said.

“It is sometimes comical to see the clients arguing with their wealth manager, saying, ‘No, it’s my money, I want the Gulfstream,'” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of people that are flying private for the first time, and I think it’s going to be a really fun spending spree.”

Federal Reserve Governor Stephen Miran speaks with CNBC during the Invest i America Forum on Oct. 15, 2025.

CNBC

Federal Reserve Governor Stephen Miran entered with big ideas about how the central bank should change— radically so, in some cases. As he prepares to step down in the coming days from what will have been the shortest tenure as a governor in 71 years, he appears convinced his ideas are right.

But in a CNBC interview, Miran, 42, made clear that the reality of working at the Fed has tempered his views about how fast those changes can be made. Change is slower than he envisioned.

The Fed is “really a committee,” Miran said. “It’s different than an agency where there’s a very clear executive who just runs the show, and what he or she says goes, and if you don’t like it, you’re out.”

That observation is important for two reasons: First, Miran could return as a governor, potentially before the end of President Donald Trump’s term. Second, incoming Chair Kevin Warsh shares some of Miran’s big ideas.

Warsh was confirmed as the next chair on Wednesday and will take the board seat Miran is vacating. The two won’t overlap.

But Warsh will be forced to reckon with the reality Miran has encountered: a Federal Reserve full of people with their own economic ideas and where institutional change is often glacial.

“You’ve got to convince people,” said Miran, who took his seat in September 2025, filling a position vacated by Adriana Kugler.

Miran said the Fed’s policymakers and staff treated his ideas with an open mind, despite sharp criticisms from outside the building that he represented a threat to Fed independence.

He initially chose not to resign his position as chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under Trump while serving at the Fed. He described that as aimed at saving himself the trouble of what could have been a third Senate confirmation in a brief span, but the decision landed poorly amid Trump’s campaign to undermine Powell.

Miran resigned the White House position in February and has no immediate plans to return.

He argues his critics have it backward. He was valuable to the president because he looked at the economic evidence and concluded that interest rates were too high. “I’ve laid out my math,” he said. “I’ve always done what I think is right.”

Miran will end his tenure on the Fed with a rare record of dissenting at every one of the six Fed meetings he attended. That lines up with Trump’s demands for sharply lower interest rates. Even when the Fed cut rates, Miran dissented in favor of larger cuts.

Holding fast

As he exits the Fed, Miran has not much altered his views that rates can and should be much lower.

“If I were writing down dots today, I might have one fewer cut than I did in the last summary of economic projections,” he said. That “dot” on the Fed’s grid of individual members’ rate expectations called for a full percentage point, or 100 basis points, of cuts this year, or three more quarter-point cuts than the median of his colleagues on the Fed.

Miran says he would eliminate just one quarter-point cut now — in other words, calling for rates to be three-quarters of a point lower — because of the cuts the Fed has made already and because “the data has made me a little bit more concerned about inflation.” But he adds, “I still think it’s important to frontload those cuts, because I still don’t think that we should be exerting restraints in the labor market.”

Miran’s push for cuts is based on several other factors, many of them the result of administration policies that he believes will drive down inflation and allow the Fed to run the economy with lower rates.

First is his belief in the positive impact the administration’s deregulation will have on the economy.

“I think that regulations are still underappreciated in terms of how determinative they are for the supply side,” he said. “Saying you’re not allowed to build versus you are allowed to build is night and day … Deregulation pushes up the supply side by allowing producers to produce more with less is disinflationary.”

He estimates deregulation could lop a half a point of future inflation rates, even while he acknowledges the uncertainty created by tariff inflation could hold back some of those gains.

Convincing colleagues

While some of his colleagues still want to take their time studying the concept before incorporating it into policy, he believes he’s made a few converts. “I still think it’s more important than everyone else does, but they’re a lot closer to my view now than they were in September,” he said.

Those colleagues have likely not heard the last word on the potential benefits of deregulation. Fed Chair designee Warsh has called Trump’s deregulatory plans “the most significant since President Ronald Reagan’s.”

Miran’s views on the veracity of the inflation data are another key plank in his arguments for lower rates. In a forthcoming paper, Miran will argue along with two Fed economists that recent software inflation has been artificially inflated by technical factors, distorting headline and core numbers.

Perhaps the most significant of Miran’s ideas is his approach to how he believes a central bank should think about the appropriate policy response to a surge in inflation for a supply shock, such as soaring oil prices now. He says it takes roughly 12 months to 18 months for changes in Fed policy to affect the economy. That sets limits on the kind of price changes that the Fed should be concerned about today, he says.

Consider a clothing company that has had to bump up prices to account for the cost of tariffs, Miran said.

“If you think that a higher tariff is going to boost clothing prices today, there’s nothing you can do about that with monetary policy,” Miran said. The same goes for Iran war’s oil shock, he said. It may push up individual prices today, but the kind of inflation the Fed should care about is an ongoing, upward trend in prices, not one-off events.

“That’s the thing with supply shocks, is that you need to be forecasting more supply shocks,” he said.

The Warsh view

A concern with Miran’s approach is that, if the Fed keeps looking through supply shocks, markets and the public will doubt its inflation-fighting credibility.

It isn’t clear Miran if has persuaded his fellow Fed members to come around to his view. Three dissenters at the most recent meeting said they were worried about inflation.

But they will soon find a louder voice making the same argument around the boardroom table.

Warsh shares Miran’s view that the Fed has gotten tripped in over analyzing micro-level prices, Warsh said at his April 21 confirmation hearing.

“I’m most interested in what’s the underlying inflation rate, not what’s the one time change in prices because of a change in geopolitics or change in beef, but what’s the underlying generalized change in prices in the economy?” he said.

It seems likely Miran will remain an active participant in the Fed debate even after he leaves. He wrote often on monetary policy before he joined the Fed and worked on his research paper on software inflation into the last weeks of his short term.

“I’d love to be back,” Miran said. “But it’s not up to me.” The White House declined to comment on whether Trump is considering it.

Outgoing Chair Jerome Powell has said he will retain his governor’s seat at least until an investigation into renovations at the Fed’s headquarters is completed. Though Powell has not put an end date on when he will leave, and his term runs until January 2028, an early exit would open a board seat.

Were he to return, it would be consequential for Warsh, whom, as Miran has found, will need allies around the table at the Fed.

Staffing and recruitment company TeamLease Services has announced that its board of directors will meet on May 20 to consider and approve a proposal to buy back some shares from its shareholders, along with its results for the January-March quarter of the financial year 2026.

If approved, the buyback would mark the first such corporate action in three years. In 2023, the company announced a share buyback of nearly 3.28 lakh shares with a face value of Rs 10 each, aggregating to a little over Rs 100 crore. The buyback price was fixed at Rs 3,050 apiece, implying a premium of more than 38% from the levels at which the stock was trading on the record date.

Buyback of shares refers to a corporate action where a company repurchases its own shares from existing shareholders, mostly at a premium to the market price.

In an exchange filing late on Monday, TeamLease Services announced its upcoming board meeting, while noting that the trading window for designated persons has been closed since April 1 and will remain shut till May 22 in line with insider trading norms. The company is likely to announce details of its share buyback—including size, price, number of shares and record date—after board approval.

Global banks, tech giants and governments were sent scrambling last month to contain the risks posed by Mythos, the Anthropic model said to be so powerful that it has found thousands of previously unknown vulnerabilities in the world’s software infrastructure.

There’s just one problem: the capability they’re worried about is already here.

Cybersecurity experts and artificial intelligence researchers told CNBC that the software vulnerabilities revealed by Mythos can be found using existing models, including those from Anthropic and OpenAI.

“What we are seeing across the industry now is that people are able to reproduce the vulnerabilities found with Mythos through clever orchestration of public models to get very, very similar results,” said Ben Harris, CEO of cybersecurity firm watchTowr Labs.

Mythos has jolted executives and policymakers alike over concern that a perilous new era of AI-enabled cybercrime may be near. Anthropic limited its release to a few American companies including Apple, Amazon, JPMorgan Chase and Palo Alto Networks to reduce the risk that bad actors get their hands on it.

Even with that precaution, the release has prompted the Trump administration to consider new government oversight over future models.

It’s the latest in a string of high-profile launches from Anthropic that have intensified its rivalry with OpenAI as the two AI giants approach their highly anticipated IPOs. Weeks after the arrival of Mythos, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced GPT-5.5-Cyber, a model specifically tailored for cybersecurity.

OpenAI on Thursday allowed limited access to GPT-5.5-Cyber to vetted cybersecurity teams.

The controlled rollout of Mythos, part of a security measure called Project Glasswing, was to give the corporate world time to gird its cyber defenses against a coming onslaught of attacks from criminal groups and adversarial nations.

“The danger is just some enormous increase in the amount of vulnerabilities, in the amount of breaches, in the financial damage that’s done from ransomware on schools, hospitals, not to mention banks,” Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said this week at an Anthropic event.

‘Scary enough’

But to those fighting in the trenches of cyber warfare, one of the key capabilities advertised by Anthropic — to find software vulnerabilities at scale — has been around since last year.

“The models that we have right now are powerful enough to detect zero days in a large scale, and this is scary enough,” Klaudia Kloc, CEO of cybersecurity firm Vidoc, told CNBC.

That has been the case for “a couple of months, if not a year,” she said.

The term “zero-day” refers to a previously unknown software flaw that hasn’t been patched, giving attackers a window to exploit it before defenders can respond.

Researchers at Vidoc leaned on a technique called “orchestration” to test if they could find the same vulnerabilities that Mythos did. As the name suggests, the process involves creating workflows that split code into smaller pieces, coordinating between various tools or models to cross-check results.

“We ran older models against the same code base to see if we’d be able to detect the same vulnerabilities,” Kloc said. “We did, with both OpenAI and Anthropic’s older models.”

Another cybersecurity firm, AISLE, found that many of Mythos’s headline results could be reproduced using cheaper models working in parallel — suggesting that scale and coordination were more important than having the latest model.

“A thousand adequate detectives searching everywhere will find more bugs than one brilliant detective who has to guess where to look,” AISLE founder Stanislav Fort wrote in a blog post.

In comments to CNBC, Anthropic didn’t dispute that earlier models were capable of finding software vulnerabilities.

In fact, a company spokesperson said, Anthropic has been warning for months that AI’s cyber capabilities were advancing rapidly. They pointed to a February blog post showing that Claude Opus 4.6, a widely available model, found more than 500 “high severity” vulnerabilities in open-source software.

At the Anthropic event this week, Amodei affirmed this point, saying that while the scale of software vulnerabilities found by Mythos surged from earlier models, the trend wasn’t new.

“The risks are very real. This is why we took the actions we did,” Amodei said. “But they’re also, in some sense, not that surprising. … We’ve been seeing warnings of this for a while.”

Hysteria and panic

What makes Mythos different is its ability to take the next step, developing working exploits with little or no human input, effectively automating a process that previously required skilled researchers, the Anthropic spokesperson said.

But hackers working for criminal groups and adversarial nations already have this skill set, cyber researchers say. Hackers in North Korea, China and Russia “know how to do this, with or without Anthropic,” Kloc said.

The threat of AI-enabled hacking has corporations and government regulators worried about protecting crucial systems from a new wave of ransomware and other types of attacks, according to Harris.

He described conversations with banks, insurers and regulators in recent weeks as “hysteria.”

Even before the advent of generative AI, corporations faced the problem of skilled hackers exploiting newfound vulnerabilities in hours, while patching the code often takes days or weeks. Some patches require key systems to be taken offline, complicating matters.

“The industry is panicking about the number of vulnerabilities they face now,” Harris said. “But even before Mythos is widely available, it couldn’t fix vulnerabilities fast enough.”

Before, only a tiny population of experts globally had the ability and time to find obscure vulnerabilities in software and exploit them, according to Harris. Now, using currently-available AI models, the barriers of entry to wreaking cyber havoc have been lowered.

That means that banks and other targets will see more attacks, and that software systems that previously didn’t draw as much interest from cybercriminals will now face threats, Harris said.

Advantage: Offense

While Anthropic, OpenAI and others are working on developing cyber defense capabilities commensurate with the problems they have identified, the initial advantage goes to offense, not defense, researchers say.

JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon suggested as much when he said last month that while AI tools could eventually help companies defend themselves from cyberattacks, they are first making them more vulnerable.

“You have a significant increase in the volume of vulnerabilities discovered, but they don’t seem to have deployed a tool that helps you fix them,” said Justin Herring, partner at the law firm Mayer Brown and former executive deputy superintendent for cybersecurity at New York’s financial regulator.

“Vulnerability management is the great Sisyphean task of cybersecurity,” Herring said.

The limited group that was part of the initial Mythos release got a head start on patching vulnerabilities, but there is a downside. AI researchers haven’t been given access to Mythos to independently verify Anthropic’s claims or to begin building defenses against it.

Some say it prevented the wider cyber community from being part of the solution.

It has created “tiers of haves and have-nots,” which could stunt the pace of cybersecurity innovation, said Pavel Gurvich, CEO of cybersecurity startup Tenzai, which uses Anthropic’s models.

Many cybersecurity startups are working on solutions that can help businesses in this new era of AI, he said.

“They’re trying to figure out the best way to fix the world before this becomes accessible to the world,” said Ben Seri, co-founder of cybersecurity startup Zafran Security. “It’s this kind of chicken-and-egg situation, and you’re going to break some eggs. It’s unavoidable.”

Crypto analyst Killa has alluded to the diminishing cycle analysis, which helped him predict the Bitcoin top at around $120,000. Based on this analysis, he suggested that the Bitcoin bottom isn’t in, despite the recent rally, with BTC set to

Diminishing Cycle Analysis Points To Bitcoin Bottom At $38,800

In an X post, Killa stated that the diminishing cycle analysis, which is part of the tool in the model he used to predict the Bitcoin top, points to $38,800 as the predicted bottom. He noted that this was the same model that led to his top prediction of $121,362, with BTC eventually topping at around $126,100.

Now, the analyst’s base model outputs $38,800 as the predicted bottom. He added that to account for the same 5% variance that offset his Bitcoin top prediction, he has included two multiples of $40,740 and $42,680. Killa noted that even at the highest end of the range, $42,680, the Bitcoin bottom is still below $60,000.

Source: Chart from Killa on X

As such, Killa declared that $60,000 as the Bitcoin bottom in this bear market is very optimistic, considering the diminishing cycle analysis. He added that he will stick with his model and, regardless of everything, will be buying as much spot BTC as possible around July and August. The analyst also mentioned that anything within the $40,000 and $60,000 range is a bargain long-term and that the predictions are purely based on math and patterns.

This analysis suggested that BTC’s recent rally to almost $80,000 may be a bull trap, with BTC likely to still drop lower in the long term. The leading crypto and the broader crypto market are currently rallying on the back of optimism that the U.S.-Iran war could end soon.

BTC Still Likely To Drop To At Least $50,000

Crypto analyst Doctor Profit, who had also predicted the Bitcoin top, has reiterated that Bitcoin is still likely to drop to around $50,000 despite its recent rally. In an X post, he stated that he is certain that BTC will visit higher targets in the short term. This could happen with a rally towards the $83,000 to $85,000 area, at least for the leading crypto, before it prepares for the big downside move afterward.

Doctor Profit stated that he is still expecting targets below $50,000 in the coming months. Meanwhile, he predicted that the Fed is likely to lower rates soon, which is bearish for Bitcoin and could contribute to a move lower. The next FOMC meeting is scheduled for later this week on April 29.

At the time of writing, the BTC price is trading at around $77,800, down in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

The markets remained under sustained pressure through the week and trended lower, ending on a negative note. After attempting a mild recovery early on, the Nifty faced selling at higher levels and gradually drifted lower. It traded in a relatively wide range of 788 points, oscillating between 24,601.70 and 23,813.65. Volatility spiked notably, with the India VIX rising by 14.57% to 19.71, reflecting increased nervousness among market participants. The headline index eventually closed the week with a net loss of 455.60 points (-1.87%).

The broader technical structure shows that the Nifty has slipped back into a corrective phase after failing to sustain above its recent resistance zone. The index has moved below its short-term moving averages and is currently hovering near an important support region around the 23,800 zone.

This area now becomes crucial; any sustained breach may open the doors for an extended decline. On the upside, the zone near 24,400–24,500 has started acting as a supply area. The market is no longer in a trending phase but appears to be slipping into a broad consolidation with a negative bias. A decisive move above 24,500 can only revive strength, while a break below 23,800 may accelerate weakness. Given the current setup and the truncated trading week due to the Maharashtra Day holiday on Friday, the markets may begin on a cautious note. Immediate resistance levels are seen at 24,200 and 24,450, while supports are placed at 23,700 and 23,500.

The weekly RSI stands at 43.10, which is neutral but leaning bearish, and does not show any divergence against price. The MACD remains below its signal line, continuing to stay in negative territory, indicating weak momentum. From a pattern perspective, the Nifty appears to be inside a very broad trading range but below two of the three key moving averages. The index is trading below its 50-week moving average (~25,041) and struggling near the 100-week MA (~24,512), both of which now act as overhead resistance. The long-term 200-week average remains much lower, indicating that while the primary trend is intact, the intermediate trend is under stress.

Looking ahead, market participants should adopt a cautious and defensive approach. Fresh aggressive buying should be avoided until the index shows signs of stabilising above key resistance levels. Priority should be given to capital protection and selective stock-specific trades, rather than broad-based exposure. Traders should remain nimble, respect stop losses, and avoid over-leveraging in what is shaping up to be a volatile and range-bound environment.
The Relative Rotation Graph (RRG) shows that there is no major change in the sectoral setup. The Nifty Energy, Midcap 100, Infrastructure, PSE, Pharma, and Metal Indices are inside the leading quadrant. While some of them are slowing down on their relative

momentum, these groups may relatively outperform the broader markets.

The Nifty PSU Bank, Banknifty, Auto, and Financial Services Indices are placed inside the weakening quadrant. Their relative performance is expected to weaken over the coming days.

The Nifty IT Index continues to languish inside the lagging quadrant along with the Nifty Services Sector Index. The Nifty Realty Index, which is also inside the lagging quadrant, is showing continued sharp improvement in its relative momentum against the broader Nifty 500 Index.

The FMCG and the Media Index are placed inside the improving quadrant.

Investing banking fees: $2.5 billion, per StreetAccount

Goldman Sachs is set up to benefit from several trends during the first quarter.

Trading desks across Wall Street have been busy at the start of the year as institutional investors set new positions against the churn of AI-led disruption across sectors.

At the same time, the investment banking rebound is expected to continue, with revenue for the industry set to climb by 10% in the quarter, per Dealogic.

For Goldman Sachs, which gets most of its revenue from its trading and investment banking franchise, the main question analysts will have is about the impact of the Iran war that started on Feb. 28.

Disruptive events that impact the price of commodities — like the Iran conflict has — can sometimes force corporate clients to the sidelines, meaning a delay in mergers activity might have started. At the same time, the churn can lead to greater trading revenues thanks to moves in interest rates, bond prices and currencies.

Shares of the bank have climbed about 3% this year.

The British semiconductor and software design firm revealed its first-ever internal chip, the AGI CPU, at an event in San Francisco on Tuesday. The chip is designed specifically for AI inference in data centers, as demand for central processing units has surged with the rise of agentic AI.

The new chip is expected to generate $15 billion in revenue by 2031, with total annual revenue of $25 billion and earnings per share of $9, Arm’s CEO Rene Haas said at the event. The revenue expectation is six times more than the $4 billion it generated in annual revenue in 2025.

Arm was last up around 13.2% in premarket trading. The stock closed down 1.5% on Tuesday.

For decades, Arm has typically licensed its instruction sets to other companies and collected royalties on every processor made with its designs. However, with its new chip, it’s now competing with its own customers, including Amazon, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Google.

‘Significant shift’

Arm’s announcement is the “most significant shift in the company’s history,” Citi analysts said in a note on Wednesday. While the company’s move to manufacturing chips was a poorly kept secret, the news of the fully developed server chip, the support from major firms like Meta and OpenAI, and bullish revenue expectations, led to a positive suprise for the market, they said.

“Arm’s forecasts are well above even the highest of speculated estimates,” and should ease any concerns about a change in the company’s margin structure, the analysts said.

“The $15bn in revenue forecast would, on those metrics, drive $7.5bn/$5bn in incremental gross/operating profit, such a significant increase versus prior expectations that we think the market should not worry about the change in margin structure. It is the incremental profit and cash flow that is the driver of shareholder value,” they added.

Meta is the first official customer for Arm’s new chip as the company commits to huge data center build-outs and plans $135 billion in capital expenditure related to AI this year. OpenAI, Cloudflare, and SAP are also among its first customers.

“It’s a $1 trillion market, and what we’re seeing over and over again is actually our partners coming out and understanding and realizing this is actually great for the industry,” Mohamed Awad, Arm’s cloud AI head, told CNBC’s Katie Tarasov in an exclusive first-look at the chip.

Arm’s CFO Jason Child said it is selling its new chip at about a 50% gross profit, while Awad said it would be “competitively priced” to serve as an option for companies that can’t afford to build their own in-house chips.

“It expands our market to include customers that were not interested in an IP model, gives our current customers choice, and for Arm, it creates a much larger profit opportunity,” Child said at the event on Tuesday.
