Kevin Warsh was confirmed Wednesday as the next Federal Reserve chair, taking over the central bank at a time when President Donald Trump is pushing for lower interest rates even as fresh inflation data complicates the case for cuts.

In the most divisive vote ever for a Fed chair, Warsh, 56, won confirmation to take over for Jerome Powell, who has served in the top leadership position since 2018 and whose term will expire Friday.

The Senate voted 54-45 to confirm Warsh, ending a monthslong saga that began in the summer of 2025 and included an extensive search for Powell’s successor. The vote was almost completely along party lines, with only Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. John Fetterman crossing over to vote for Warsh, who becomes the 11th Fed chair of the modern banking era.

Powell will stay on at the Fed as he has two years left in his term as governor. He said last month that he will remain at least until an investigation into renovations at the Fed’s headquarters is complete. The last time a Fed chair returned to the board was nearly 80 years ago.

Trump has made no secret that he expects Warsh to lower rates after having lashed out repeatedly at Powell for monetary policy the president has felt was too restrictive. Warsh was part of a derby that included nearly a dozen candidates at one point, including current Governors Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman.

“The Senate’s confirmation of Kevin Warsh as the next Chairman of the Federal Reserve is a welcome step towards finally restoring accountability, competence, and confidence in Fed decision-making,” said White House spokesman Kush Desai.

The confirmation comes, however, following separate reports this week showing inflation well above the Fed’s 2% target and pipeline pressures accelerating at their highest levels in more than three years. Markets have been scaling back expectations for rate cuts and are even pricing in a chance of an increase later this year.

Rep. French Hill, R-Ark., praised the Fed’s decision and Warsh’s inflation-fighting credentials.

“Chairman Warsh has repeatedly emphasized the importance of placing affordability and price stability at the center of our economic agenda,” Hill said in a statement. “His commitment to disciplined monetary policy will help restore confidence in our economy and support long-term prosperity.”

Warsh could not be reached for comment.

This will be Warsh’s second stint at the Fed.

During his first run, he served from 2006-11, a time during which Fed officials initially dismissed dangers from the subprime mortgage meltdown that led to the global financial crisis, then implemented a historic set of policies aimed at rescuing the economy. Part of those rescue endeavors included an unprecedented expansion of asset purchases that sent the Fed’s balance sheet past $4 trillion, a program known as quantitative easing that Warsh argued then had gone too far.

Since leaving the Fed, Warsh has been a consistent critic of monetary policy and last year, in a CNBC interview, called for “regime change” at the central bank. During the period, he’s been a lecturer at the Stanford School of Business and has served on various boards of directors.

Warsh takes the place of Stephen Miran on the Fed board, who was appointed to governor in September 2025 to fill the few months left on the unexpired term of Adriana Kugler, who resigned unexpectedly in August.

Miran has dissented from each of the Federal Open Market Committee’s votes since taking the seat. When the committee voted to cut by a quarter percentage point at each of last three meetings in 2025, Miran voiced support for a larger half-point cut. This year, he’s opposed votes to keep the federal funds rate steady, arguing for quarter-point reductions.

Campaign founder Yves Bennaim isn’t giving up. Even after his group failed to gather enough signatures to force a Swiss national referendum on Bitcoin reserves, Bennaim said another push could follow.

The Swiss direct democracy system requires campaigns to hit a signature threshold within 18 months — his team didn’t make it.

A Bold Proposal That Didn’t Get Off The Ground

The initiative would have required the Swiss National Bank to hold Bitcoin alongside gold and foreign currencies. Supporters argued that adding Bitcoin to the SNB’s reserves would reduce dependence on the US dollar and the euro.

Bennaim drew a parallel to Switzerland’s long-standing tradition of neutrality, framing Bitcoin as an independent alternative to the dominant global currencies.

He also pushed back against claims that Bitcoin lacks liquidity, pointing to the billions of dollars moving through international crypto exchanges every day.

LATEST: Swiss crypto advocates are abandoning their bid to force the Swiss National Bank to hold Bitcoin, falling short of the 100,000 signatures needed for a constitutional referendum. pic.twitter.com/q95Eio5uCq

But the SNB wasn’t persuaded. The bank has remained cautious, and European Central Bank policymakers have made their position clear — reserve assets must be liquid, secure, and stable.

Bitcoin’s price record hasn’t helped its case. The cryptocurrency has dropped roughly 7% so far this year, following a record $126k ATH in October 2025.

Europe Still Divided On Crypto In Central Bank Reserves

Based on reports from Reuters, the failed Swiss campaign reflects a wider disagreement across Europe. Policymakers have not reached any consensus on whether digital assets belong in central bank reserve strategies.

BTCUSD now trading at $80,362. Chart: TradingView

That debate has sharpened as crypto has become harder to ignore in global finance. Some institutions have been testing blockchain-based systems. Others remain focused on concerns about price swings, safety, and the ability to sell large holdings quickly without moving markets.

Bennaim’s team framed the campaign as more than just a Bitcoin bid. They wanted Swiss officials to seriously assess the technologies reshaping the financial sector. A future initiative, they said, remains possible.

Swiss Financial Firms Push Ahead With Blockchain

The campaign’s collapse hasn’t slowed the broader Swiss financial industry. AMINA Bank recently became the first institution registered with Swiss financial regulator FINMA to offer custody and trading services for Canton Coin.

They say journalists never truly clock out. But for Christian, that’s not just a metaphor, it’s a lifestyle. By day, he navigates the ever-shifting tides of the cryptocurrency market, wielding words like a seasoned editor and crafting articles that decipher the jargon for the masses. When the PC goes on hibernate mode, however, his pursuits take a more mechanical (and sometimes philosophical) turn.

Christian’s journey with the written word began long before the age of Bitcoin. In the hallowed halls of academia, he honed his craft as a feature writer for his college paper. This early love for storytelling paved the way for a successful stint as an editor at a data engineering firm, where his first-month essay win funded a months-long supply of doggie and kitty treats – a testament to his dedication to his furry companions (more on that later).

Christian then roamed the world of journalism, working at newspapers in Canada and even South Korea. He finally settled down at a local news giant in his hometown in the Philippines for a decade, becoming a total news junkie. But then, something new caught his eye: cryptocurrency. It was like a treasure hunt mixed with storytelling – right up his alley!

So, he landed a killer gig at NewsBTC, where he’s one of the go-to guys for all things crypto. He breaks down this confusing stuff into bite-sized pieces, making it easy for anyone to understand (he salutes his management team for teaching him this skill).

Think Christian’s all work and no play? Not a chance! When he’s not at his computer, you’ll find him indulging his passion for motorbikes. A true gearhead, Christian loves tinkering with his bike and savoring the joy of the open road on his 320-cc Yamaha R3. Once a speed demon who hit 120mph (a feat he vowed never to repeat), he now prefers leisurely rides along the coast, enjoying the wind in his thinning hair.

Speaking of chill, Christian’s got a crew of furry friends waiting for him at home. Two cats and a dog. He swears cats are way smarter than dogs (sorry, Grizzly), but he adores them all anyway. Apparently, watching his pets just chillin’ helps him analyze and write meticulously formatted articles even better.

Here’s the thing about this guy: He works a lot, but he keeps himself fueled by enough coffee to make it through the day – and some seriously delicious (Filipino) food. He says a delectable meal is the secret ingredient to a killer article. And after a long day of crypto crusading, he unwinds with some rum (mixed with milk) while watching slapstick movies.

Looking ahead, Christian sees a bright future with NewsBTC. He says he sees himself privileged to be part of an awesome organization, sharing his expertise and passion with a community he values, and fellow editors – and bosses – he deeply respects.

So, the next time you tread into the world of cryptocurrency, remember the man behind the words – the crypto crusader, the grease monkey, and the feline philosopher, all rolled into one.

Warren, D-Mass, in the letter reported first by CNBC, told Warsh that his record as a member of the Fed’s Board of Governors from 2006 until 2011 — which included the 2008-09 financial crisis and Great Recession — “should disqualify you from a promotion.”

The letter, which CNBC obtained before it was publicly released, asked Warsh pointed, detailed questions about 10 different subject areas to be answered for his confirmation hearing at the Senate Banking Committee, where Warren is the ranking Democrat.

But those queries were buried at the bottom of what reads as a scathing, eight-page indictment of his tenure at the Fed, and what she called his advocacy “against tougher safeguards intended to prevent big bank failures and taxpayer bailouts” after he left the central bank.

“I write to better understand what, if anything, you’ve learned from your failure to prioritize American families over Wall Street before, during, and after the 2008 financial crisis while serving as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System,” Warren said in the letter’s first sentence.

“Rather than implementing policies to improve the lives of the American public, you ignored the obviously excessive risk-taking on Wall Street; worked tirelessly to bail out large financial institutions after their bets blew up the economy; and advocated for policies that would have further harmed the millions of Americans who lost their jobs, were thrown out their homes, and saw their life savings evaporate,” she continued.

Warsh declined to comment on the letter.

Warsh’s nomination is in limbo as Warren’s fellow Banking Committee member, Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., has said he would effectively block the nomination from being considered by the full Senate until a criminal investigation of Fed Chair Jerome Powell is resolved.

Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, has indicated she has no intention of dropping that probe.

Pirro’s office is seeking to reverse a ruling on March 11 by a federal judge in Washington, blocking subpoenas issued to the Fed as part of its investigation of Powell, which is purportedly focused on cost overruns of the pricey renovation of the Fed’s headquarters and testimony about that project to the Banking Committee.

District Court Judge James Boasberg, in his order quashing those subpoenas, wrote, “There is abundant evidence that the subpoenas’ dominant (if not sole) purpose is to harass and pressure Powell either to yield to the President or to resign and make way for a Fed Chair who will.”

Trump has repeatedly, and unsuccessfully, pressured Powell and the entire Board of Governors to cut interest rates more quickly and deeply than they have since Trump reentered the White House in January 2025.

Powell earlier in March said he would remain as chair pro tem if Warsh is not confirmed by May, when Powell’s term as chair expires.

In her letter to Warsh on Thursday, Warren said that when he began his service on the Board of Governors, there were “warning signs of the coming crisis” in the subprime home-lending market.

“Yet rather than using the Fed’s powerful supervisory and regulatory authorities to address the severe consumer and financial stability risks posed by subprime mortgages, you defended and even implicitly promoted these products,” Warren wrote.

“Astonishingly, in December 2007, you agreed that “subprime mortgages have gotten a bad name
in this environment,” she wrote. “You also promoted derivatives and other forms of ‘financial innovation’ as vehicles to disperse risk and make the financial system safer.”

“Again, you were wrong.”

Warren said that during the resultant financial crisis, “you appear to have prioritized the interests of large financial institutions ahead of the American public.”

“Your eagerness to bail out Wall Street, including through taxpayer-assisted megamergers, was not surprising, given the seven years you spent as a Morgan Stanley mergers and acquisitions executive prior to joining the George W. Bush Administration,” Warren wrote.

“It has been well-documented that you played a central role helping to arrange numerous [multibillion-dollar] bailouts and even obtained an ethics waiver to deal directly with Morgan Stanley, which received the special regulatory approvals from the Fed on an expedited basis necessary to access additional emergency support.”

The senator said Warsh also advocated for higher interest rates at the time, “further imperiling an ailing economy” that was hemorrhaging jobs.

“Your monetary policy record shows a repeated failure to accurately assess the impact of inflation on the American economy,” Warren wrote.

“It appears you have learned nothing from your failures,” she wrote.

“Since leaving the Fed, you have advocated against tougher safeguards intended to prevent big bank failures and taxpayer bailouts.”

US President Donald Trump formally sent the nomination of pro-Bitcoin Kevin Warsh to the US Senate on Wednesday, beginning a process that could replace Jerome Powell when his term ends in May.

Reports say the White House filed paperwork to seat Warsh as chair for a four-year term and as a governor for a longer term on the central bank’s board.

Nomination Sent To The Senate

According to multiple outlets, the nomination now moves to the Senate Banking Committee for review. The committee will decide whether to hold hearings and then whether to send the nomination to the full Senate for a confirmation vote.

The timing is uncertain. Some senators have already signaled they may slow the process until a separate Justice Department inquiry is resolved.

Bitcoin Proponent: Warsh’s Record And Views

Warsh served at the Fed in earlier years. Reports note he has talked openly about Bitcoin, calling it a kind of “new gold” for younger investors and saying it does not make him nervous.

Markets reacted quickly when the nomination was announced earlier: Bitcoin, at the time of writing, climbed past the $70,000 level, and some short positions were liquidated as traders digested the news.

BTCUSD now trading at $72,516. Chart: TradingView

Warsh’s background mixes public service and private finance. He was on the Fed’s board during turbulent times and later worked in the private sector and at a policy research center. That mix is part of what makes him attractive to some senators who favor lower rates, and worrisome to others who worry about the Fed’s independence.

How Markets Read The Move

Reports say traders see a Fed chair who favors rate cuts as friendly to risk assets. Bitcoin’s price moves reflected that view in the hours after the filing reached the Senate.

Some analysts cautioned that a faster shift in policy would depend on data, not headlines, and that inflation and global events complicate any easy return to lower borrowing costs.

Political Hurdles Ahead

Opposition is already forming. A Republican member of the Banking Committee has said he may block nominations until outside investigations are cleared, and leading Democrats have voiced concerns about Warsh’s alignment with the administration.

Those objections mean a smooth confirmation is far from certain, even with a friendly Senate majority.

Reports note the next formal steps are committee hearings, written questionnaires, and witness appearances. The committee could vote to advance Warsh, or it could stall the nomination.

If the committee approves him, the full Senate would then take up the matter. If hearings proceed, senators will ask about his views on inflation, interest rates, and the role of cryptocurrencies in financial stability.

President Donald Trump announced the establishment of a U.S. critical mineral reserve late Monday, sending shares of miners higher in extended trading.

The proposal, known as Project Vault, would launch a first-of-its-kind strategic critical minerals stockpile designed for the U.S. private sector, the president said, speaking at the White House on Monday afternoon. The plan pairs $1.67 billion in private capital with a $10 billion loan from the U.S. Export-Import Bank, according to a White House official. Trump’s move is aimed at cutting America’s dependence on China for materials essential to electric vehicles, defense systems and advanced technology.

Bloomberg News first reported on the proposal earlier Monday.

USA Rare Earth has already held discussions with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, pitching its domestic mining and magnet assets to the federal government. Those talks would ultimately lead to a proposed deal that could provide the company with about $1.6 billion in funding, subject to certain conditions, and include a U.S. government equity stake.

The moves build on a more direct role Washington has begun taking in the sector. The Department of Defense struck a landmark agreement with MP Materials last summer that included an equity stake, price floor, and long-term agreement to buy a specific amount of rare earth minerals and magnets.

President Donald Trump on Friday named Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair, ending a prolonged odyssey that has seen unprecedented turmoil around the central bank.

The decision culminates a process that officially began last summer but started much earlier than that, with Trump launching a fusillade of criticism against the Powell-led Fed almost since Powell took the job in 2018.

“I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best,” Trump said in a Truth Social post announcing the selection.

The pick of Warsh, 55, likely won’t ripple markets because of his past Fed experience and Wall Street’s view that he wouldn’t always do Trump’s bidding.

“He has the respect and credibility of the financial markets,” said David Bahnsen, chief investment officer of The Bahnsen Group, on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

“There was no person who was going to get this job who wasn’t going to be cutting rates in the short term. However, I believe longer term he will be a credible candidate,” added Bahnsen.

Stock market futures nevertheless were slightly negative Friday morning, though off their lows since Warsh’s appointment became clear.

Warsh now faces Senate confirmation. If approved, he will take over the position in May, when Powell’s term expires. Warsh will fill the Board of Governors position currently held by Governor Stephen Miran, whose term expires Saturday. Miran can continue to serve until a replacement is named.

‘Regime change’ coming?

Since Powell’s confirmation in 2018, during Trump’s first term, the president has persistently hectored policymakers to lower interest rates aggressively. Even with three successive reductions in the latter part of 2025, Trump kept up the attack, pressing for lower rates and criticizing Powell for cost overruns at the Fed’s massive renovation of its Washington, D.C., headquarters.

Beyond interest rates, Warsh comes to the Fed at a time when policymakers have taken a looser hand on banking regulations. Among the changes, pushed by Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, herself once in the running for Fed chair, are lower capital requirements, reducing supervision and supervisory staff, and backing the Fed out of ancillary efforts like pushing banks to prepare for climate events.

For his part, Warsh in a CNBC interview last summer called for “regime change” at the Fed.

“The credibility deficit lies with the incumbents that are at the Fed, in my view,” he said during the July interview. It’s a position that could put him in an adversarial role at an institution where consensus building is key to policy implementation.

Trump’s decision to nominate Warsh comes at one of the most precarious moments for the U.S. central bank in decades — with inflation not fully defeated, government borrowing escalating and the Fed itself facing unusually direct political pressure over how it conducts monetary policy.

Most recently, the Justice Department subpoenaed Powell regarding the construction project. In an uncharacteristically blunt response, Powell charged the move was a “pretext” to push the Fed into following Trump’s orders and ease policy further.

To that end, the nomination comes as questions about Fed independence, a bedrock of central bank credibility, have moved from academic debate into concern. Trump and other administration officials have floated ideas ranging from tighter White House oversight to changes in how the central bank sets rates, including forcing the chair to consult with the president on rate decisions.

“I want to keep it nice and pure, but he certainly wants to cut rates,” Trump said Friday afternoon during an Oval Office session with reporters. He added that he has not talked with Warsh about cutting rates, though the president said that would be a litmus test for candidates.

The nomination ends a competitive derby that at one point included 11 candidates. They spanned from former and current Fed officials to prominent economists and Wall Street pros in an interview process led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Ultimately, the field was winnowed to five then four, with Trump last week hinting to CNBC that he had arrived at his choice. Among the finalists were current Governor Christopher Waller, BlackRock bond chief Rick Rieder and National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett.

“Christopher Waller, Rick Rieder, and others, were interviewed for the Fed position. They all would have been outstanding, and have a great and unlimited future with ‘TRUMP.’ Such amazing talent in our Country,” Trump said in a separate Truth Social post.

Rieder, thought to be the favorite as recently as Thursday afternoon, congratulated Warsh on the nomination.

“This has been an incredible honor for me,” Rieder said in a statement to CNBC. “I congratulate Kevin on his nomination and think he will serve the institution and our nation very well.”

Trump praised Hassett and said he was so good at NEC that he didn’t want to move him.

“He is doing such an outstanding job working with me and my team at the White House, that I just didn’t want to let him go,” he said.

In a CNBC interview, Hassett said he was not disappointed and wished Warsh well.

“I’ve got my dream job,” he said. I think President Trump made a great choice, and I’m really thrilled and humbled by all the kind things he said about me. You know, the bottom line is that the economic team in this White House … I think we’ve been hitting on all cylinders, and it’s a really bad time to change teams.”

Political challenges

From here, the nominee faces a tough road.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina has indicated he will block any Fed nominees until the Justice Department probe is finished.

“Kevin Warsh is a qualified nominee with a deep understanding of monetary policy. However, the Department of Justice continues to pursue a criminal investigation into Chairman Jerome Powell based on committee testimony that no reasonable person could construe as possessing criminal intent,” Tillis posted Friday on social media site X.

“My position has not changed: I will oppose the confirmation of any Federal Reserve nominee, including for the position of Chairman, until the DOJ’s inquiry into Chairman Powell is fully and transparently resolved,” he added.

Hassett told CNBC that the DOJ issue “could get resolved quickly. The White House is highly, highly confident that Kevin Warsh is a great nominee and that he should be confirmed as soon as possible, and every single resource we have at our disposal is behind him, and behind that outcome.”

The nomination gained support elsewhere in Congress. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., who chairs the Senate banking committee, praised Warsh’s “deep knowledge of markets and monetary policy that will be essential in this role.”

“The Federal Reserve’s decisions touch every American household, from mortgage rates to retirement savings, and President Trump has been clear that bringing accountability and credibility to the Federal Reserve is a priority, and his nomination of Kevin Warsh reflects that focus,” Scott said.

The issues, though, are more than political.

Though Trump has insisted that inflation has been vanquished, it remains a good deal from the Fed’s 2% target. At the same time, the labor market has slowed, with the economy current in a no-fire, no-hire climate that poses another challenge to Fed policy.

In any event, markets don’t expect much action from the new chair: Traders are pricing in at most two more cuts this year before the benchmark fed funds rate lands around 3%, which policymakers have indicates is the long-run “neutral” rate that neither boosts nor hinders economic growth.

Then there’s the issue of what happens with Powell.

Though chairs historically have resigned their Fed positions after being removed as chair, that may not be the case this time around. Powell has two years remaining in his governor term, and he could choose to serve it as a bulwark against Trump’s efforts to compromise Fed independence. The Supreme Court already is weighing Trump’s move to unseat Governor Lisa Cook, a case that ultimately could decide what powers a president has over Fed board members.

In his first stint at the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh came to a central bank that was about to be asked to save the world. He returns now under very different circumstances, asked to serve a notoriously fickle president who will place significant but very different demands on him.

Warsh indeed is a Fed veteran, serving during the critical period of 2006 to 2011 that led up to and ultimately through the global financial crisis and the central bank’s efforts to stabilize the economy. Appointed by President George W. Bush, Warsh was one of the youngest members ever to serve on the board of governors.

While at the Fed, Warsh played an important role in the design and implementation of emergency lending programs aimed at stabilizing credit markets. Warsh also played a key role in helping devise the myriad programs aimed at rescuing the economy. One of those programs, developed separately at the Treasury Department, became known as the Troubled Asset Relief Program, developed by Neel Kashkari, who is now the Minneapolis Fed president.

However, Warsh emerged from the era as a Fed critic.

He warned that large-scale asset purchases and near-zero benchmark interest rates ran the risk of distorting markets and undermining long-term price stability. While supporting the earlier efforts, Warsh voted against the second round of Fed bond buying, a program known as quantitative easing.

‘Central casting’

Warsh has further criticized the post-financial crisis Fed with going too far in monetary policy stimulus, contending that it is helping sow the sees for further crises. In some respects, President Donald Trump is appointing a Fed chair who may be even less inclined to accommodate political pressure than Jerome Powell.

Trump cited Warsh’s extensive background in announcing his appointment to the top Fed post Friday morning. Warsh is currently a distinguished visiting fellow at Stanford University.

“On top of everything else, he is ‘central casting,’ and he will never let you down,” the president posted on Truth Social.

Warsh, is a Stanford University graduate who earned his law degree from Harvard. Before joining the Fed, he worked in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and served in the George W. Bush White House as a special assistant to the president for economic policy.

While positioning himself as a defender of Fed independence, Warsh also has criticized it for mission creep and told CNBC in an interview last year that the central bank needs “regime change.”

Warsh made his misgivings known about the current Fed.

“The credibility deficit lies with the incumbents that are at the Fed, in my view,” he said during that July interview. It’s a position that could put him in an adversarial role at an institution where consensus building is key to policy implementation.

Despite multiple missteps on policymaking, Chair Powell has largely been able to keep the Fed consensus together. However, in recent months that has faltered, with each of the past several meetings featuring at least one and sometimes multiple dissents.

Warsh’s appointment would mark a sharp philosophical shift from Powell’s pragmatic, consensus-driven approach and signal a potential tightening of the Fed’s tolerance for inflation and balance sheet expansion.

Can Warsh sway the Fed committee?

But if Trump thinks Warsh will be able to just push through aggressive rate cuts with ease, he might be in for an unpleasant surprise. Multiple voting members on the Federal Open Market Committee have expressed resistance to cutting further until there’s more evidence that inflation is definitively moving towards the central bank’s 2% inflation goal.

Moreover, the full group of Fed officials in December indicated they see just one more rate cut coming in 2026, then another in 2027. In the aggregate, that’s in line with market expectations, with futures traders pricing in two reductions this year and none next year.

Traditionally, though, the chair has been first among equals when it comes to voting on the FOMC, so Warsh may be able to tilt the group in at least a bit more dovish direction.

“We see Warsh as a pragmatist not an ideological hawk in the tradition of the independent conservative central banker,” Krishna Guha, head of global policy and central bank strategy at Evercore ISI, said in a note. “Because he has a hawkish reputation and is seen as independent, he is better placed to bring the FOMC along with him to deliver at least two and plausibly three cuts this year than some rivals.”

So while Warsh may prove an ideological ally of the administration, how that translates into action will be a key question.

“Analytically, we expect he will be strongly aligned with the Administration’s arguments that booming productivity will allow for neutral or accommodative rates even with robust growth,” wrote Tobin Marcus, head of U.S. policy and politics at Wolfe Research. “But it all depends how the data comes in, as we expect the rest of the FOMC will remain data-dependent and focused on the workhorse Fed models that Warsh has criticized.”

Warsh emerged from a competitive derby that one included 11 candidates, an array of past and present Fed officials, leading economists and a few Wall Street investment professionals including BlackRock fixed income chief Rick Rieder. That field was whittled down to five then four before Warsh emerged as the selection.

Trump made no secret of the most important criteria — a willingness to slash rates lower and keep them low. The president has expressed the importance of lower rates as both a way to help the moribund U.S. housing market and to help lower financing costs for the $37 trillion U.S. debt.

Before all that, he will have to be confirmed by a Senate during a ticklish political situation.

The Trump Justice Department has been investigating the massive renovation project at the Fed’s Washington, D.C., headquarters and has served Powell with a subpoena demanding information. Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina has vowed to block any Trump Fed nominees until that situation is resolved.

Once that hurdle is cleared, Warsh would face a full Senate in which Republicans still command a majority.

“The Warsh pick is likely to have broad support – Democrat economist Jason Furman is out early in favor – and he should be relatively easy to confirm in the Senate,” Guha said.

Strategy Inc., the firm once best known as MicroStrategy, said Monday it has raised cash and set aside a $1.44 billion US reserve to cover near-term obligations as Bitcoin tumbles. The move came after recent share sales and follows a brief buy of new coins, according to company statements and market reports.

The company said it did not liquidate its Bitcoin stash to create the reserve.

The size of the company’s Bitcoin holdings remains unusually large. Based on reports, Strategy now holds about 650,000 BTC after a small recent purchase of roughly 130 BTC that cost about $11.7 million.

That hoard is still worth tens of billions of dollars at current prices, but price swings have put fresh pressure on a business built around holding the asset.

Bitcoin: Market Reaction And Risks

Investors reacted quickly. Strategy’s shares have fallen sharply this year, and analysts say the new cash buffer may calm some fears but won’t erase larger funding and debt timelines that loom over the company.

Reports put convertible debt tied to past financing at about $8 billion, and company metrics show the market-to-Bitcoin ratio (mNAV) sliding closer to levels where management has said it might consider selling coins only as a last resort.

Peter Schiff, a well-known Bitcoin critic, took to social media after the announcement and described the reserve as proof the model has failed, calling Michael Saylor a “conman” and saying Saylor is “finished.”

Saylor was forced to sell stock not to buy Bitcoin, but to buy U.S. dollars merely to fund MSTR’s interest and dividend obligations. The stock is broken. The business model is a fraud, and @Saylor is the biggest con man on Wall Street.

Other market voices urged caution, saying the move changes how investors should value the company — from a pure Bitcoin treasury play to an entity with ongoing cash obligations.

According to reports, Strategy also cut its 2025 profit and Bitcoin-linked yield targets after recent price moves, a sign that management is dealing with a less bullish near-term outlook than it expected earlier this year.

The reserve is meant to prevent forced sales of Bitcoin to meet fixed payouts, but holding cash has its own costs and raises governance questions among long-time backers.

Related Reading

Schiff’s Issue With Saylor

Schiff’s blistering attack — calling Saylor a fraud and declaring him done — adds a sharp political edge to what had been framed as a financial maneuver.

His claims amplify worries among some investors about Strategy’s governance and capital plan, even as others dismiss the remarks as partisan rhetoric.

Ultimately, whether Schiff’s accusations stick will depend less on social-media barbs than on Strategy’s next moves around debt, disclosure and any future coin sales — actions that will tell investors whether Saylor’s stewardship can weather this storm.

In a post on X, SharpLink Gaming disclosed that the company’s Ethereum holdings or treasury reserve have grown exponentially. Interestingly, this growth is propelled by a surge in its ETH staking rewards that continue to compound its crypto treasury strength.

The company’s increasing ETH reserves show a strategic plan to increase its exposure to the larger decentralized ecosystem while taking advantage of Ethereum’s proof-of-stake reward potential. In addition, the move reflects how the altcoin is now being viewed beyond its status as a digital asset, but rather as a productive and yield-generating treasury asset in the financial landscape.

According to the report from SharpLink Gaming, its crypto holdings now boast 840,124 ETH, valued at approximately $3.45 billion at current price levels, after several notable staking rewards. Its staking rewards of about 488 ETH from last week pushed its overall holdings to the aforementioned number of Ethereum.

The company’s ETH holdings have been steadily increasing since launching its treasury strategy. With 488 Ethereum generated from staking rewards last week, SharpLink Gaming’s total cumulative rewards from staking activity are currently at 5,211 ETH, worth around $20 million. Despite recent market fluctuations, the firm’s vision that ETH will spur the next wave of finance still remains unchanged.

ETH Staking Explodes To Unprecedented Territory

Given the rise in retail and institutional staking, there has been a sharp increase in Ethereum staking. Leon Waidmann, the head of research at Onchain Foundation, reported that ETH staking is at its all-time high (ATH) levels, which signals a robust conviction from investors across the leading blockchain.

As more ETH continues to be locked up in staking contracts, the supply of liquid tokens in circulation is shrinking. While Ethereum staking has increased sharply, the total supply of ETH on crypto exchanges continues to hit record levels.

Data shared by Waidmann shows that nearly 30% of all ETH is locked up in staking. Meanwhile, ETH supply on all crypto exchanges has fallen to 15 million, raising the possibility of a textbook supply squeeze for the leading altcoin.

Waidmann has declared that Ethereum is in its best position ever on a fundamental level. His bold statement hinges on ETH’s remarkable on-chain performance, as the blockchain’s Layer 1 transactions and active addresses skyrocket to new all-time highs. At the same time, ETH gas fees have also declined sharply, drawing dangerously close to all-time lows.
