The country’s second-most profitable carrier after Delta Air Lines on Tuesday unveiled new cabin designs, including on some of its smallest planes, that feature more premium seating options and fewer in standard coach.

The differences in airfare for those seats can be vast. For example, a flight between United’s hub at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and San Francisco in the first week of May is going for $423 in standard coach and $5,556 in the carrier’s top-tier Polaris class on a Boeing 757.

Even with the spike in fuel prices, United’s executives have said in recent weeks that demand remains strong, noting that premium-travel demand has outshined the main cabin.

“The main cabin is also improving, and we’ve seen very strong demand across the board for United in Q1, but premium did lead the way yet again in the quarter, and continues to do so,” Andrew Nocella, United’s chief commercial officer, told reporters last week.

United plans to introduce a subfleet of narrow-body Airbus A321neo jets dubbed the “Coastliner” for transcontinental flights that will have 20 Polaris seats, which can recline into beds. Each Polaris seat will have aisle access.

Those jets will also have 12 premium economy seats and 36 extra-legroom seats on board, with the rest regular economy. United said it removed three seats from the plane’s standard configuration to install a snack bar at the back of the plane.

Current layouts of the plane don’t have premium economy, but they do have 57 extra-legroom seats and 123 seats in standard economy, along with 20 that are first-class recliners, not the lie-flat Polaris seats.

United said the first Coastliners will begin flying this summer and it will have 40 of them by the start of 2028.

The airline also announced its configuration for its longer-range Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which will replace some older Boeing 757s. That layout also includes the 20 Polaris suites, 12 premium economy seats and 34 in extra-legroom. The plane will debut this summer, and United said it could operate on some of its existing routes to Spain, France, Portugal and Brazil.

The changes are part of an ongoing trend for airlines, which are dedicating more of the scarce real estate on planes to premium seats, as the growth from those higher-end options outpaces sales from regular economy.

Last year, United unveiled an upgraded Polaris suite for long-haul flights on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners that includes the “Polaris Studio,” which is larger than previous models and has 27-inch 4K screens as well as an ottoman for guests.

United’s chief rival, Delta, has said it expects premium revenue to overtake main cabin sales this year. That carrier said last month that starting in May, the first of seven of its new Airbus A321neo jets will have 44 seats in first class, more than double the 20 it usually has.

The demand has been so high for plush new suites and other premium seats that the supply chain can’t keep up. The bottlenecks have even delayed delivery of aircraft, CNBC has reported.

Delta said the big first-class cabin on the A321neo is a medium-term measure, “intended to be in service for a limited time as Delta awaits delivery of flatbed suites that will ultimately be installed on these aircraft.”

Meanwhile, United has been eyeing lie-flat seats for some of its newer narrow-body jets for years.

CEO Scott Kirby told reporters in August 2018 that the carrier was planning to offer lie-flat seats on new Boeing 737 Max 10 aircraft, though that plane still hasn’t been certified and is years behind schedule.

Other airlines are also adding higher-end seats.

ET Intelligence Group: Valuations of Indian equities have eased after the recent sell-off but that may still not be enough to lure foreign funds back here as the country’s main share indices continue to trade at a premium to emerging market peers.

At the end of Tuesday’s trading session, the NSE Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex had a trailing price-earnings (P/E) multiple of 21.2 times and 21.3 times, respectively. This compares with their P/Es of 22.8 at the beginning of the current calendar year. The Indian benchmark P/Es have softened from the levels of over 23 two years ago. This shows the market is cheaper than it used to be, tempering investor concerns of excessive valuations, which, along with slowing growth, has contributed to foreign investors’ risk-aversion towards India.

VALUATION PREMIUM FALLS: Benchmarks have shed over 8% in 2026 amid investor caution over fallout of West Asia war, but local equities still trading at a premium to EM peers

The valuation premium of Indian benchmarks has now narrowed with respect to nine out of 12 major global equity indices. For Instance, Nifty’s premium over the Hong Kong benchmark has reduced to 1.8 times from 2.3 times at the beginning of the year. The premium with respect to the German DAX and French CAC 40 has fallen to around 1.2 from 1.5 by similar comparison. In the case of other benchmarks, including the US Dow Jones and S&P 500, Indian benchmarks continue to trade at a marginal discount, as they did earlier.

The benchmarks have shed over 8% in 2026 so far, including a 4% drop since the beginning of March as investors turn cautious amid the rising concerns over the impact of the West Asian conflict between Iran and Israel. On a year-to-date basis, India has the second-worst performing equity market among major markets in the world behind Indonesia where the local benchmark has lost 14%.

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Ethereum has remained locked in a consolidation phase below the $2,000 level since the sharp market decline seen in early February. Despite occasional rebound attempts, price action continues to reflect caution among traders, with volatility elevated and momentum limited. The inability to reclaim this psychological threshold has reinforced a defensive market posture, as investors weigh macro uncertainty, liquidity conditions, and broader crypto sentiment.

A recent CryptoQuant report provides additional context from an on-chain perspective. According to the analysis, the Ethereum Coinbase Premium Index has stayed predominantly in negative territory, signaling relatively weak demand from US-based investors. This metric compares spot prices on Coinbase with those on other major exchanges, offering insight into regional buying pressure. Persistent negative readings suggest that aggressive spot accumulation from US participants has been largely absent during the current corrective phase.

This pattern aligns with the broader technical structure visible on price charts, where rallies have struggled to gain follow-through. While consolidation does not necessarily imply further downside, sustained weakness in spot demand typically delays recovery phases, leaving Ethereum sensitive to shifts in liquidity, macro conditions, and investor confidence in the near term.

Coinbase Premium Rebound Signals Potential Shift In Demand

The report further notes that the Coinbase Premium Index has recently shown a noticeable upward rebound. Although the indicator remains below the neutral threshold, the strength of the move suggests that selling pressure from US-based investors may be starting to ease. This shift is relevant because the index reflects the difference between Ethereum spot prices on Coinbase and those on other major exchanges, making it a proxy for regional demand dynamics.

Ethereum Coinbase Premium Index | Source: CryptoQuant

If the current upward momentum continues and the index moves into positive territory, turning green, it would indicate renewed spot buying interest from US market participants. Historically, sustained positive readings have often coincided with phases of stronger accumulation, which can help stabilize price action after periods of corrective pressure.

Such a development could become particularly significant if it aligns with a technical breakout from the triangle structure currently visible on the charts. In that scenario, improving on-chain demand and constructive price structure would reinforce each other. While this does not guarantee an immediate rally, the combination could increase the probability of a more durable recovery phase, especially if broader liquidity conditions and market sentiment also begin to improve.

Ethereum Holds After Sharp Breakdown

Ethereum remains under clear technical pressure after losing momentum below the $2,000 level, with the chart showing a sustained downtrend following the late-2025 peak near $4,800. Price action has shifted decisively bearish, marked by a sequence of lower highs and lower lows that confirms a broader corrective structure rather than a temporary pullback.

ETH testing critical demand level | Source: ETHUSDT chart on TradingView

The recent breakdown accelerated once ETH lost confluence support around the 200-period moving average, triggering a sharp decline toward the $1,900–$2,000 zone. This area now functions as a fragile stabilization range rather than firm support. Trading volumes increased during the selloff, suggesting forced positioning adjustments rather than organic accumulation.

From a trend perspective, ETH continues to trade below all major moving averages, which remain downward sloping. This configuration typically reflects persistent macro weakness and limited buyer conviction. Any sustained recovery would likely require reclaiming the $2,400–$2,600 region, where previous support has turned into resistance.

Until that happens, market structure remains vulnerable. Continued consolidation near current levels could indicate base formation, but another rejection below $2,000 would increase the probability of a deeper retracement toward historical demand zones near the mid-$1,600 range.

Meta Platforms is set to test new subscription models across its apps, including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp in the coming months, according to a report from TechCrunch on Tuesday.

The report, confirmed by a Meta spokesperson, said the subscriptions are expected to “unlock more productivity and creativity” by giving paid users access to more features and expanded AI capabilities.

Meta’s recently acquired suite of general AI agents under Manus will also be scaled as part of the subscription plans. Meta Platforms bought Manus — a Singapore-based developer of AI agents founded in China — in December for a reported $2 billion.

While Vibes has been free since its launch in 2025, the new subscription model would grant free access to its basic version, with the option to pay for additional features.

The subscriptions will be separate from Meta Verified, a paid product rolled out by the company in 2023 that gave content creators and businesses a verified badge, 24/7 direct support, protection against impersonation, search optimization, and more.

Meta told TechCrunch that it plans to listen to its user community and gather feedback as it rolls out subscriptions in the coming months.

Oil prices have moved back to the centre of market attention after the United States captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro over the weekend, a development that has already altered sentiment in global crude markets and is likely to shape how Indian equities, the rupee and energy stocks trade when markets open on Monday.

The U.S. action has injected fresh geopolitical risk into oil prices, even as traders weigh the longer-term possibility that Venezuelan supply could return under American oversight, analysts said.

The capture of Venezuela’s president has reintroduced a geopolitical risk premium into oil markets, even as prices remain under pressure after a steep decline last year. Oil prices fell more than 18% in 2025, their sharpest annual drop since 2020, amid growing concerns over global oversupply.

The development comes as OPEC+ meets on Sunday, with the group widely expected to keep output steady despite political tensions between key members Saudi Arabia and the UAE and the U.S. action in Venezuela, OPEC+ delegates told Reuters.

The eight OPEC+ producers—Saudi Arabia, Russia, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Iraq, Algeria and Oman—pump about half of the world’s oil. They raised output targets by around 2.9 million barrels per day from April to December 2025, equivalent to nearly 3% of global demand, before agreeing in November to pause further hikes for January, February and March. The meeting on Sunday is unlikely to change that policy, three OPEC+ sources told Reuters.

Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves at about 303 billion barrels—more than Saudi Arabia—but production has collapsed due to years of mismanagement, underinvestment and sanctions, Reuters noted.

Analysts told PTI that while any immediate jump in Venezuelan output is unlikely given decayed infrastructure and unresolved legal issues, a U.S.-directed overhaul of the sector could eventually add supply to global markets, acting as a stabilising force on prices. What crude volatility means for Indian markets
For Indian markets, the immediate impact will be felt through oil prices.

India imports more than 85% of its crude oil needs, making domestic markets highly sensitive to sharp moves in global prices. Higher oil prices would weigh on the rupee, stoke inflation concerns and pressure interest rate expectations, while supporting upstream producers and hurting oil marketing companies, analysts told PTI.

Conversely, expectations that Venezuelan supply could return to global markets over time may cap the upside in oil prices, offering relief to Indian refiners and fuel consumers.

Indian refiners such as Reliance Industries, Nayara Energy, Indian Oil Corporation, HPCL-Mittal Energy and Mangalore Refinery have the complexity required to process Venezuelan heavy crude efficiently.

State-run ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) is also in focus. OVL jointly operates the San Cristobal oilfield in eastern Venezuela, but output has slumped to 5,000–10,000 barrels per day due to sanctions, according to PTI. Venezuela has failed to pay OVL USD 536 million in dividends due on its 40% stake in the field up to 2014, with a near-equivalent amount pending for subsequent years.

Once sanctions are eased, OVL could revive output to 80,000–1,00,000 barrels per day through additional wells and improved equipment, and potentially recover close to USD 1 billion in past dues from export revenues, officials and analysts told PTI.

Strategic upside for India, caution in the near term
Analysts cited by PTI said a US-led restructuring of Venezuela’s oil sector—bringing capital, technology, and operational discipline, could lift production significantly within a year, adding supply to global markets and reshaping crude trade flows.

For India, renewed Venezuelan exports would offer a strategic alternative to Middle Eastern crude, reduce exposure to geopolitical shocks, and strengthen its hand in price negotiations.

For now, however, Indian markets are likely to take their cue from crude price movements when trading resumes on Monday, with oil-driven volatility—rather than immediate supply gains—setting the tone at the open, analysts said.

Since the market-wide crash in early October, the Bitcoin price has struggled to resume any significant movement to the upside. The flagship cryptocurrency has continued to fall even deeper into bearish territory, breaching multiple support zones in the process.

With the crypto market’s situation painting a bleak picture, the prevailing sentiment around its leader can hardly be said to be bullish. Interestingly, a recent on-chain evaluation puts into perspective the key players behind Bitcoin’s weakness.

BTC Coinbase Premium Gap Reads –$57

In a recent post on the social media platform X, on-chain analyst Maartunn shared that a substantial portion of sell pressure seen in the Bitcoin market might be from the activities of US investors. This on-chain observation is based on the Coinbase Premium Gap metric, which measures whether US based investors are buying or selling Bitcoin more aggressively than the rest of the global market.

Related Reading

For context, the metric tracks the price gap between Bitcoin on Coinbase and Bitcoin on major offshore exchanges (for example, Binance). A positive reading typically indicates that Bitcoin is more expensive on Coinbase, meaning that US traders are buying aggressively. On the other hand, negative readings are interpreted as increased sales or reduced interest among investors in the United States.

Source: @JA_Maartun on X

According to the analyst, the Coinbase Premium Gap recently dropped to a -$57 reading. As has been earlier implied, this deep negative value reveals that traders from the US are actively offloading, rather than accumulating Bitcoin.

Interestingly, this heightened selling activity accompanies Bitcoin’s price momentum towards lower levels. Thus, it becomes clear that the sell-pressure reflected on Bitcoin’s price is due mainly to the absence of US demand.

BTC Market Outlook

According to historical data, Bitcoin’s direction in the long-term could go either way. While a negative Coinbase Premium Gap reading is usually indicative of a bearish phase in the short term, the long-term perspective is a little less straightforward.

In past cycles, prolonged periods of negative readings have preceded the formations of market bottoms, after which prices saw recoveries to the upside. This often happens when sell-side pressure dwindles, and fresh demand enters the Bitcoin market.

Related Reading

Hence, if this negative reading deepens and there is no fresh demand in the market, the Bitcoin price could follow suit and continue south. However, a reversal of the Coinbase Premium Gap to the upside — pushing it towards neutral or positive levels — could prove pivotal for the world’s leading cryptocurrency.

As of this writing, Bitcoin holds a valuation of $88,260, reflecting no significant price movement in the past day.
