The price performance of Ethereum was disappointing for most of May, as the bears seemed to be in full control. It doesn’t seem like much will change for the “King of Altcoins” in the new month, which appears to be a mere continuation of the established downward trend. According to a popular analyst on the social media platform X, the Ethereum price could be on its way down to around $1,850.

Is ETH Price Stuck In A Descending Channel?

Crypto analyst Burak Kesmeci took to the X platform to share his projection for the Ethereum price over the coming days. The market pundit posited that the second-largest cryptocurrency could decline toward the $1,822-$1,850 range if it fails to break the $2,033 resistance in the next few days.

This bearish outlook is premised on the fact that sellers have been in a dominant position in the short term and for much of the past month. This dominance is evident in the formation of a descending channel on the four-hour timeframe of the Ethereum price chart.

A descending channel is a technical analysis chart pattern characterized by two major trendlines: the upper boundary connecting the lower highs and the lower line connecting the lower lows. This chart formation is often correlated to a bearish structure, with the upper trendline acting as resistance and the lower boundary as the price floor.

Source: @burak_kesmeci on X

According to Kesmeci, the persistence of the Ethereum price within the descending channel and the weak price momentum suggest that a downward move is on the cards. The crypto analyst highlighted that ETH could drop to the $1,822 – $1,850 range, so long as the overhead resistance at the upper boundary of $2,033 (Fibonacci 0.5) holds.

However, there is also the flipside scenario in which the price of Ethereum could break out toward $2,400 if the $2.033 resistance is breached. However, the decline toward the $1,850 region seems more likely, especially given current demand conditions.

Ethereum ETFs Post $241 Million In Outflows Over The Past Week

This dwindling demand in the Ethereum market is evident in rising spot ETF outflows, which climbed above $241 million over the past week. This past week’s record marked the third consecutive week with significant net outflows for the spot ETH exchange-traded funds.

The Ethereum price action over the past three weeks has been a fair reflection of this pessimistic market condition. According to CoinGecko data, the second-largest cryptocurrency has lost nearly 15% of its value in the last three weeks.

As of this writing, the price of ETH stands at around $2,023, with no significant change in the past 24 hours.

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Over the last month, Bitcoin prices have dipped by 3.45% net, as the leading cryptocurrency struggles to sustain its April momentum. During this time, Bitcoin has faced multiple rejections at the $82,000 price zone, triggering a sustained downward trend since mid-May. In his latest market analysis, renowned expert Maartunn has provided insight into this decline, a fragile market structure shaped by multiple layers of sell-offs.

In an X post on May 29, Maartunn reports that Bitcoin’s price has now dropped by 11% over the last 14 days. However, in-depth market research shows that this price loss is merely a symptom of a concerning structural issue in the sector, marked by the concurrent exit of various market participants.

One of these actors is the future traders who are taking aggressive selling positions. According to data from CryptoQuant, selling pressure in the derivatives market has reached its highest level since March, with net taker volume plunging to -$948 million. On average, sellers have exceeded buyers by roughly $40 million per hour, indicating a sustained pressure rather than a one-off event.

Bitcoin is down 11% in the last 14 days.

The sell-off isn’t just showing up in price:

• Futures traders are aggressively selling
• US spot investors are reducing exposure
• ETF outflows continue to accelerate

The data points to one of the strongest waves of selling… pic.twitter.com/nzeMu9X2Yq

— Maartunn (@JA_Maartun) May 29, 2026

Meanwhile, US spot market participants appear to be leaning bearish. On-chain metrics reveal that Coinbase is trading at a 0.21% discount compared to Binance, reflecting a negative Coinbase Premium. This negative spread indicates that selling pressure is stronger among US-based investors, as Bitcoin is being offloaded more aggressively on Coinbase than on offshore exchanges.

Finally, institutional investors are also adopting a more cautious stance marked by two consecutive weeks of outflows. Over this period, approximately $1 billion has been withdrawn from iShares Bitcoin Trust in the past week alone. This sustained reduction in institutional exposure signals a notable decline in demand, adding another layer of resistance to any near-term bullish breakout.

Positive Signs Exist, But Market Recovery Remains Historically Far Away

Amid the negative and concerning dominant market trends, Maartunn importantly notes early positive signals suggesting a potential market rebound. One of these signals is the Stablecoin Supply Ratio (SSR) indicator, which is rising, suggesting that stablecoin liquidity is increasing relative to Bitcoin’s market value. This condition often precedes renewed buying power.

Additionally, net taker volume is nearing typical exhaustion levels, indicating that aggressive selling pressure may be nearing its limit. Such extreme sell-side conditions have often marked local bottoms, as “smart money” tends to step in during periods of capitulation to accumulate positions at discounted levels.

However, while a short-term relief rally remains possible, the case for a sustained long-term recovery appears less convincing at this stage. Historical data show that Bitcoin’s cycle lows have typically formed significantly later after each halving event, i.e., around 889 days in 2016, and 925 days in the 2020 cycle. In comparison, the current cycle is only about 768 days post-halving, suggesting that the market may still be within a broader corrective phase rather than approaching a definitive macro bottom.

Bitcoin Market Overview

At press time, Bitcoin is valued at $73,309, down 3.32% over the last week.

Ackman disclosed the investment in a lengthy post Friday ahead of his firm’s quarterly 13F filing, saying Pershing Square began accumulating shares in February after Microsoft’s stock declined following its fiscal second-quarter earnings report.

“We were able to establish our position at a valuation of 21 times forward earnings, broadly in line with the market multiple and well below Microsoft’s trading average over the last few years,” Ackman wrote. While Ackman didn’t note the size of his stake in the tech giant, he called it a “core holding.”

Microsoft shares have fallen more than 26% from its record high reached in July 2025. The selloff was driven largely by fears that AI will eat software and specifically that Microsoft’s hefty AI investments won’t produce the desired results.

The move followed Ackman’s IPOs of closed-end fund Pershing Square USA Ltd., which began trading under the ticker PSUS, and asset manager Pershing Square Inc., listed as PS, last month. The dual structure allows investors to gain exposure either to the underlying portfolio or to the management business itself. PSUS last traded at $41.68, below its IPO price of $50.

“I’m still confused why the market is treating AI as a threat to at least cybersecurity,” he said Tuesday. “I can’t speak for all of software, but one thing we’re definitely seeing is that customers have figured out that they need to drive more consistency in their security stack to be able to respond faster using AI.”

Shares sank 8% Wednesday following the cybersecurity company’s fiscal second-quarter results, which topped Wall Street estimates. However, third-quarter earnings guidance fell short of expectations.

The rise of new AI tools creating enterprise workflows or websites in a matter of seconds has intensified a selloff in software stocks in recent weeks.

These new tools, from the likes of Anthropic and OpenAI, have left investors fretting over whether AI will permanently disrupt their business models.

So far this year, the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF has slumped more than 23%. Palo Alto Networks has dropped 11% year to date and 21% over the last year.

But Arora believes AI is far from displacing the security products.

“‘It’s not a secret,” he said. “Every one of us is working hard. Almost every AI, every security product has some version of a copilot that now runs in tandem with the product.”

Palo Alto has been betting big on AI in recent months and launched a suite of new agentic tools in the fourth quarter.

The company has also invested heavily in new acquisitions to scale cybersecurity capabilities for customers in the age of sophisticated AI.

Earlier this month, the company closed its massive $25 billion acquisition of identity security company CyberArk and completed its purchase of AI observability platform Chronosphere in January. Palo Alto announced on Tuesday that it’s buying Israeli cybersecurity startup Koi.

“These investments are a direct response to the inflections we see taking shape in the market,” Arora told analysts. “While it’s still early, the initial feedback from our customers has been very encouraging. We believe we’re now entering the next phase of AI adoption.”

Friday marked the end of a lackluster week for stocks and the first trading session of 2026. The market was mixed for the holiday-shortened week: The Dow and Nasdaq shed 0.1% and 1.5%, respectively, while the S & P 500 edged roughly 1% lower, its third back-to-back loss since Monday. It’s unclear what caused the market’s decline because there wasn’t much for investors to digest. They received minutes from the Federal Reserve’s December policy meeting, when the central bank announced a 25-basis-point rate cut. The release on Tuesday afternoon indicated that Fed officials were divided on the cut. The decision was approved on a 9-3 vote, the most considerable dissent among officials since 2019. The market wasn’t incredibly reactive to the news. Stocks, however, did continue to tumble that session. .SPX YTD mountain S & P 500 (SPX) year-to-date performance The weak weekly performance, however, stands in sharp contrast to the stock market’s stellar 2025 run. The S & P 500 advanced more than 16% last year. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 20% and 13%, respectively. All three hit record highs over the stretch, too. However, it wasn’t smooth sailing the entire year. The market ebbed and flowed as Wall Street speculated on the Fed’s next rate decision and weighed concerns of President Donald Trump’s trade policies. Investors also periodically rotated out of tech and into value areas of the market due to worries of inflated valuations in the AI trade. However, tech stocks ultimately drove the market higher with strong performances. As for the Club’s portfolio, there were clear winners and losers. GE Vernova, Corning , and Alphabet outperformed the S & P 500 by a wide margin, with one name posting a near triple-digit gain. On the other side of the trade, Salesforce , Nike , and Procter & Gamble stumbled. Here’s what drove the moves in all six stocks, including one that we initiated earlier this week. First, the winners … GE Vernova: +98.7% This industrial stock soared because it’s a key beneficiary of the AI boom. GE Vernova manufactures heavy-duty natural gas turbines used to support the data center buildout, enabling the company to deliver a series of strong quarterly earnings reports in 2025. It doesn’t seem like the stock’s run is going to end anytime soon, either. Management last month shared incredibly positive guidance through fiscal 2028. Corning: +84.3% This stock can thank the strength in consumer electronics in 2025. Corning, which produces specialty glass for smartphone screens, surged after inking a partnership with fellow Club holding Apple earlier this year. Corning is also a winner from the AI buzz because its specialty glass can be used in data centers, given the advantages of fiber optics over copper wiring. We started a position in Corning stock in October. Alphabet: +65.3% We started a position in Alphabet on Monday after exiting it in March of last year. At the time, we thought Gemini was cannibalizing the Google Search business. Things have clearly changed for the better, though. Investor sentiment in 2025 has been lifted by the parent company of Google’s robust AI roadmap. Developments to Gemini, the tech company’s large language models, along with the rollout of its custom chips with fellow Club name Broadcom , have been welcome news to Wall Street. … Next, the laggards. Salesforce: -20.8% What has boosted the Club’s top-performing names has weighed on another. AI adoption has been a significant concern for software-as-a-service (SaaS) stocks such as Salesforce in 2025. That’s because the nascent technology threatens their seat-based business models. As companies worldwide automate more labor, that means fewer seats, or employee headcount, using Salesforce software. It’s also why we downgraded Salesforce stock to a hold-equivalent 2 rating in August. Still, we’re holding out hope on this tech stock. We have faith in CEO Marc Benioff. Nike: -15.8% We’re not surprised to see this athletic apparel giant at the bottom. Nike shares have fallen amid a steep decline in its key China market and challenges with its direct-to-consumer strategy. It also wasn’t a great year for retail stocks overall, as consumers grew increasingly cautious. The company’s turnaround story under CEO Elliott Hill, however, is exactly why we started a position last year. Hill recently purchased $1 million in Nike shares, according to securities filings this week. Insider buying is also a solid sign of confidence in the company’s future. Procter & Gamble: -14.5% The stock has been weighed down in 2025 by macroeconomic uncertainty. Investors feared how changing rates and higher tariffs could impact the company’s costs. Additionally, the prolonged government shutdown did nothing to improve sentiment. We initiated a position in Procter & Gamble late in 2025 as a hedge against consumers pulling back on spending in 2026. While we may see a pullback in discretionary spending, P & G makes consumer staples that people rely on daily and will prioritize if affordability issues persist or worsen. We even added to our position on Friday. (See here for a full list of the stocks in Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust.)
Sean Farrell, Fundstrat’s head of digital asset strategy, is reported to have told clients that a “base case” would see Bitcoin move down toward the $60,000–$65,000 range in the first half of 2026.

The same internal material attributes fallbacks for other major tokens — ETH toward about $1.8K–$2K and SOL near $50–$75 — which were framed as potential buying opportunities should markets correct.

Risk Models And Shorter Time Horizons

Farrell’s note, which has circulated as screenshots on social media and among clients, stresses risk management and the possibility of a meaningful drawdown before any sustained rally.

By contrast, Tom Lee — Fundstrat’s co-founder and a longstanding voice on Bitcoin — has publicly said he expects new all-time highs in early 2026, with some media summaries quoting optimistic ranges as high as $200,000 by late January 2026.

He has emphasized macro drivers, institutional flows, and cycle dynamics as reasons for continued upside in the coming months.

Different Roles, Different Time Frames

Reports have disclosed that the two views reflect different analytical roles inside the firm: one focused on portfolio-level downside planning and the other on longer-term macro scenarios.

BTCUSD currently trading at $87,838.
Several clients and observers on X (formerly Twitter) have pushed back on the idea that these are contradictory; instead, they say the notes reflect distinct mandates and time frames.

Market Reaction and What Investors Are Hearing Now

Markets reacted to the story with a mix of skepticism and quick profit-taking. Some traders flagged how fast sentiment can change when internal notes leak, while others said the range of outcomes — from roughly $60,000 to $200,000 — only underlines how uncertain forecasts remain for 2026.

Trading desks are reported to be treating the internal slides as one input among many, not as an official firm forecast.

Public Takeaway

According to the coverage, Fundstrat has not issued a unified, public forecast that collapses the two views into one number.

Instead, clients and the market are being asked to weigh a downside scenario presented by the digital-assets team against a bullish macro scenario voiced by leadership.

Wall Street’s main indexes inched higher in choppy trading on Monday, with some heavyweight tech stocks rebounding from last week’s rout, while investors braced for a barrage of economic data that could set the course for interest rates.

Traders also got more clarity on candidates for the post of Federal Reserve chair next year as U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a report, said he narrowed his search to former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh or National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett.

Expectations for a dovish Fed chair have fueled hopes for interest rate cuts next year, even as inflation remains above the 2% target and persistent price pressures in other developed markets strengthen calls for a rate hike.

At 09:35 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 108.61 points, or 0.20%, to 48,557.21. The S&P 500 gained 22.44 points, or 0.33%, to 6,849.85, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 91.15 points, or 0.39%, to 23,286.32.

Of the 11 S&P 500 sectors, 10 were trading higher, with consumer discretionary up 1%, boosted by a 4.5% jump in Tesla.

AI chip giant Nvidia rose 1.1% and is set to snap a four-day losing streak, if gains hold. A broader index of chip stocks climbed 1.2%.

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq had logged their steepest daily declines in more than three weeks on Friday, as worries of sticky inflation and debt-fueled AI investments pulled the indexes further away from record highs. These concerns have weighed on U.S. equities several times over the past three months, helping Europe’s STOXX 600 outperform the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 on a quarterly basis.

PLETHORA OF DATA THIS WEEK

The nonfarm payrolls figures for October and November are due on Tuesday. The October data was delayed by the government shutdown earlier this quarter.

Reports on business activity, weekly jobless claims and inflation, due later this week, will also be monitored as investors seek fresh clues on the economy’s resilience and the Fed’s next policy moves. Rate calls from Europe, the UK and Japan will add to a crowded central-bank calendar.

“With the Fed still appearing to be more focused on labor-market weakness than inflation, we’re likely facing a ‘bad news is good’ scenario for the jobs report,” said Chris Larkin, managing director, trading and investing at E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley.

A string of Fed officials are due to make remarks throughout the week, starting with Fed Governor Stephen Miran. The permanent voting member, as seen as on the dovish side, argued that current inflation does not reflect true supply-demand dynamics.

Among other stocks, ServiceNow slid 7.9% after a report said the cybersecurity company is in advanced talks to buy startup Armis.

IRobot slumped 68.5% after the Roomba vacuum-cleaner maker filed for bankruptcy protection.

Investors also monitored developments around plans to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by a 2.59-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by a 1.57-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq.

The S&P 500 posted 18 new 52-week highs and one new low, while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 65 new highs and 42 new lows.

Berkshire disclosed a $4.3 billion stake in Alphabet at the end of the third quarter, a surprising move given Buffett’s traditional value investing philosophy and reluctance toward high-growth, tech names. While Berkshire has owned Apple for years, Buffett has called it more of a consumer products company than a pure tech play.

The purchase was also likely made by Berkshire investment managers Todd Combs or Ted Weschler, who have been more active in technology names. One of them initiated an investment in Amazon back in 2019, and Berkshire still owns $2.2 billion worth of the e-commerce shares.

Alphabet has been the market’s standout winner this year with shares rallying 46%. Strong demand for artificial intelligence has driven solid momentum in Alphabet’s cloud business.

Buffett previously admitted that he “blew it” by failing to invest early in Google even though he had insight into its advertising potential. Berkshire’s auto insurance unit Geico was an early customer of Google, paying the search engine 10 bucks every time someone clicked on the ad at the time.

“I had seen the product work, and I knew the kind of margins [they had],” Buffett said in 2018. “I didn’t know enough about technology to know whether this really was the one that would stop the competitive race.”

Trimming Apple

Berkshire continued paring back its massive Apple stake, trimming the position by another 15% in the quarter to $60.7 billion.

Buffett went on a head-turning selling spree in Apple in 2024, slashing two-thirds of the shares Berkshire held in a surprising move for the famously long-term-focused investor. Berkshire also cut the holding in the second quarter of this year.

Even with the continuous sales, the iPhone maker remains Berkshire’s biggest equity holding.

The conglomerate also dialed back its Bank of America stake by 6% to a bet worth just under $30 billion.
Berkshire has been a net seller of stocks for 12 straight quarters as valuations continued to climb in the tech-driven bull market.

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

According to Bitcoin analyst Willy Woo, Strategy (MSTR) is unlikely to be forced to sell its Bitcoin in the next major market downturn. Strategy holds about 641,205 Bitcoin, a stake worth roughly $64 billion at current prices, according to Saylor Tracker.

Convertible Debt Gives Flexibility

Strategy’s debt is mostly in convertible senior notes that carry a holder put right dated Sept. 15, 2027. Based on Woo’s calculations, Strategy would need its stock to trade above $183 around that date to avoid selling Bitcoin to meet obligations.

That stock level lines up with a Bitcoin price near $91,502, assuming a multiple net-asset-value (mNAV) of 1. The company can settle conversions with cash, common stock, or a mix of both, and that choice gives management breathing room when markets wobble.

MSTR liquidation in the next bear market? I doubt it,

Here’s their debt, the date the debt is due and the price MSTR stock needs to exceed to prevent partial liquidation of their BTC treasury to pay the debt. Equivalent BTC price assumes mNAV 1.0 pic.twitter.com/AzVgecI7i2

— Willy Woo (@woonomic) November 4, 2025

Market Moves Put Pressure On Short Timescales

Strategy’s share price closed at $246.99, a seven-month low, down nearly 6.7% on the reported day. Bitcoin was trading at $102,004, down 9% over the past seven days, Coingecko data shows.

Based on reports, some market watchers say it would take a very prolonged and deep decline to force Strategy into selling its Bitcoin. One analyst put it this way: for the firm to liquidate, Bitcoin would need to underperform badly for a long stretch. Those words reflect the view that the company is insulated — but not immune.

Risk Of Partial Sales Looms

Willy Woo did add a warning. He suggested a partial sale could happen if Bitcoin fails to climb quickly during an expected 2028 bull run. Based on reports, that scenario would not be caused by a single bad week, but by a slow recovery that leaves Strategy’s stock weak when debt dates arrive.

Other public forecasts remain far more bullish: ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong have both mentioned targets as high as $1,000,000 for BTC by 2030.

BTCUSD trading at $101,849 on the 24-hour chart: TradingView

Debt Structure And Practical Choices

The convertible note setup means the company does not face an automatic margin call that forces an immediate sale. Conversions can be settled with stock, which shifts the pressure onto MSTR’s share price rather than Bitcoin alone.

However, that linkage also ties Strategy’s fate more tightly to investor appetite for a stock that mirrors Bitcoin’s movement.

Short Term Drops, Long Term Tests

Strategy looks broadly protected against a typical bear market. Yet the math shows a clear cut point: about $1 billion in debt comes due by the holder put date mentioned above.

If Bitcoin and MSTR equity both underperform for an extended period, adjustments may be needed. For now, major analysts say liquidation is unlikely in the next downturn, but they also flag 2028 as a critical year for whether any sales become necessary.

Ethereum is under significant pressure as the broader crypto market enters a corrective phase. After reaching a new all-time high of around $4,950 on August 24, ETH has now shed more than 22% of its value, slipping below the psychological $4,000 level. The steep pullback has left many investors in difficult positions, with some of the largest players in the market also feeling the impact.

According to top analyst Maartunn, even BitMine, one of the largest institutional holders of Ethereum, has seen its ETH position dip below its on-chain cost basis. This marks a critical moment, as whales typically act as stabilizers during corrections, and their unrealized losses reflect the depth of current market stress.

Despite this downturn, some analysts argue that Ethereum’s retracement may represent a healthy reset after weeks of overheated momentum. Corrections of this scale are not unusual following parabolic rallies and often serve to shake out excess leverage before setting up for longer-term stability. Still, with sentiment fragile and selling pressure mounting, the coming days will be pivotal for ETH as it tests key support levels and investors closely monitor whale behavior for signs of renewed confidence.

BitMine’s ETH Play Falls Below Cost Basis

According to top analyst Maartunn, Ethereum’s correction has placed one of the market’s largest institutional holders under heavy pressure. BitMine’s ETH portfolio, valued at roughly $7.5 billion, has just dipped below its on-chain cost basis around the $4,000 level. This development underscores the severity of the recent downturn and highlights that even large-scale players are not immune to the pain of corrections.

Maartunn emphasizes that this stage of the market is less about timing the perfect entry or exit and more about endurance. As he put it, “It’s about who can hold their breath the longest.” The remark reflects a broader sentiment among analysts who view the current environment as a psychological test for both retail and institutional investors. With volatility high and sentiment deteriorating, the ability to withstand drawdowns may determine who ultimately benefits from the next phase of Ethereum’s cycle.

The outlook remains divided. Optimists argue that this is a necessary pullback before Ethereum gears up for a massive leg higher, supported by growing institutional adoption and strong long-term fundamentals. On the other hand, cautious voices warn of a deeper correction, noting that breaking below critical support levels could trigger further downside.

The coming weeks will likely prove decisive. If ETH can stabilize above the $3,800–$4,000 range, confidence may return quickly. However, if selling pressure intensifies, the market could face an extended period of uncertainty before momentum rebuilds.

Bulls Struggle To Find Support

Ethereum (ETH) has broken below the critical $4,000 level, now trading around $3,891, as shown on the 12-hour chart. This decline marks a continuation of the bearish trend that started after the September peak near $4,950. The breakdown has been accompanied by rising trading volume, confirming strong selling pressure and suggesting that bears currently dominate the market.

The 50-day EMA has crossed below the $4,400 zone, reinforcing near-term weakness, while the 200-day EMA around $3,650 now acts as the next major support level. The price action shows a decisive rejection from the $4,600–$4,800 resistance range earlier this month, followed by a steep selloff that erased more than 20% of ETH’s value.

If ETH holds above the $3,850–$3,900 zone, it could attempt a rebound and retest the $4,200 resistance. However, failure to defend this range risks further downside toward $3,650–$3,700, where the 200-day EMA and previous accumulation levels converge.

Ethereum is in a corrective phase, but the volume spike suggests potential exhaustion of sellers. The coming sessions will determine whether bulls can reclaim $4,000 to stabilize momentum or if further capitulation is ahead.
