<div class="group">
<p>Investors may want to take a step back as stocks swing amid rising geopolitical tensions.</p>
<p>DBi&#8217;s Andrew Beer suggests the market&#8217;s crystal ball is broken.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not normal for big markets to move as much as they are right now,&#8221; the firm&#8217;s managing member told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;ETF Edge&#8221; this week. &#8220;Something is deeply wrong in the market&#8217;s ability to forecast the state of the world&#8230; The only thing we can all do as investors is: This is the moment to plan and to prepare for the worst. You hope for the best.&#8221;</p>
<p>Beer, who has spent more than three decades in the hedge fund industry, thinks it&#8217;s remarkable the number of stresses on the financial system over the past 12 to18 months hasn&#8217;t caused things to spin out of control.</p>
<p>&#8220;You just you have more geopolitical risks stacked on top of each other today [and] more economic risk factors than I remember at any time in my career,&#8221; he added. </p>
<p>Beer urges investors to ask themselves how they would act if a 2008 or 2022 market downturn happens again. </p>
<p>&#8220;These financial assets are, they&#8217;re an investment, but they&#8217;re also what you need to survive, to live on, to retire, and so it&#8217;s the very real human side of it that I hope people will focus on,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>According to Beer, investing like it&#8217;s 2025 could turn into regret.</p>
<p>&#8220;The best thing to do in 2025 was just turn off your computer beginning of the year and come back at the end of the year, and you&#8217;ve made money, your stocks and your bonds and everything else,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It won&#8217;t continue like that. We will go through a more difficult period.&#8221;</p>
<p>Recent moves in <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-3">gold,<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-4">silver<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span>, <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-5">bitcoin<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> and <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-6">crude oil<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> underscore how difficult it has become for investors to calibrate portfolios, especially as sharp reversals unfold over short periods of time, according to Beer. </p>
<p>&#8220;No one has a playbook for that,&#8221; said Beer, who is also watching for signs of strain in private credit, insurance company portfolios and other corners of the market where unusual stress could begin to spread.</p>
<p>NovaDius Wealth Management&#8217;s Nate Geraci highlighted exchange-traded funds that are designed to offer portfolio protection — particularly managed futures ETFs.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is absolutely something that is a longer-term allocation, and I almost view it as portfolio insurance,&#8221; the firm&#8217;s president said in the same interview. &#8220;You want that insurance when something goes bad in the market, and maybe that&#8217;s stocks and bonds going down together.&#8221;</p>

<p>Prices for metals fell sharply across the board Thursday as investors worried about the impact rising oil prices due to the U.S.-Iran war will have on the global economy.</p>

The sell-off extended beyond just those two, as industrial metals like <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-4">copper<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> and <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-5">palladium<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> came under pressure, declining 2% and 5.5%, respectively. </p>
<p>While the selling intensified on Thursday, gold and silver have been falling since the war in Iran began, despite the former being viewed as a safe-haven asset. Surging oil prices have created concerns that inflation will reignite and keep interest rates higher. Higher rates weaken the appeal of the bullion, which is non-yielding. </p>
<p>A stronger <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-9">dollar<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> as a result of the higher rates has also weighed on gold, as it cheapens the metal. </p>
<p>&#8220;The risks to inflation taking away the Fed rate cuts that were priced in, and seeing interest rate increases across the world, and real rates rising, that has been the drag on gold,&#8221; said Peter Boockvar, CIO at One Point BFG Wealth Partners. The U.S. <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-10">10-year Treasury yield<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> at one point on Thursday crossed 4.300%.</p>

<div class="group">
<p>Wall Street consensus has generally been that the longer the war goes on, the greater is the risk that oil prices remain elevated for long enough that it alters the spending habits of consumers and businesses and leads to a recession. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s the &#8220;demand destruction&#8221; phase of an energy shock that traders and investors are chattering about.</p>
<p>&#8220;On the industrial metal side… people are now really worried about the recession risks,&#8221; Boockvar said. </p>
<p>And slower growth combined with higher inflation is a &#8220;stagflation&#8221; scenario. But while investors begin to make &#8220;stagflation&#8221; trades, others see the possibility as extremely unlikely.</p>
<p>Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research, wrote in a Tuesday note that &#8220;oil shocks are less likely to trigger the kind of sustained stagflation seen in the past, particularly during the 1970s,&#8221; referencing the economic consequences of the 1973 OPEC embargo. He noted that Russia&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, while it caused an oil shock and higher inflation, didn&#8217;t lead to a recession. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s a belief that Fed Chair Jay Powell repeated in a press conference on Wednesday. &#8220;I would reserve the term stagflation for a much more serious set of circumstances.&#8221;</p>
<p>While Boockvar thinks the war needs to end for industrial metals&#8217; prices to stabilize, he said gold can likely recover as focus returns to countries&#8217; rising debts and deficits, which gold typically does well against as a &#8220;debasement trade&#8221; play. He added that those deficits might only worsen due to military spending on the war. </p>
<p>And even if stagflation does arrive, head of asset allocation research at Goldman Sachs Christian Mueller-Glissmann wrote in a Thursday note gold is a play in that environment.</p>
<p>&#8220;In case of a continued stagflationary shock, especially if real yields are declining, we would expect more support for Gold prices due to investor demand for real assets and FX diversification,&#8221; he wrote. </p>

<div class="group">
<p>This year&#8217;s hottest trades — gold, silver and South Korea — are down big amid fears the war in Iran could go on for longer than expected. </p>
<p>Here are the moves. </p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Gold prices slide: </strong><span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-1">Spot gold<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> was last down more than 5% to $5,041.81 per ounce, with <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-2">gold futures<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> dropping 5% to $5,049. They&#8217;re still up more than 16% this year. </li>
<li><strong>Silver prices tumble: </strong><span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-3">Futures tied to the commodity<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> fell more than 8% to $81.23 per ounce. They remain higher by 15% year to date. </li>
<li><strong>South Korea down huge:</strong> The <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-4">iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY)<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> plunged 14%, though it remains higher by nearly 30% year to date. </li>
</ul>
<p>Each of these trades were huge momentum plays in 2026, catching a bid as investors nervous about their exposure to U.S. large-cap tech sought out asset classes that could better perform the market. After all, the <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-5">S&amp;P 500<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> shot up 64% on a cumulative basis over the last three years; it&#8217;s down 1% this year. </p>
<p>Gold, silver and South Korea each have their own appeal. Investors are optimistic that gold&#8217;s upward trajectory remains intact as central banks around the world diversify away from the U.S. dollar, with many confident bullion could soon top $6,000 an ounce. Silver is expected to benefit from tight supply-demand dynamics, and has big industrial use cases around AI. </p>

<p>EWY, 1-day</p>
</div>
<div class="group">
<p>South Korea&#8217;s outperformance this year largely has to do with the worldwide demand for memory, which has especially lifted the shares of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix that account for a huge part of the country&#8217;s Kospi index. The two memory powerhouses are up more than 50% and 44% year to date, respectively. </p>
<p>Yet all three trades unwound alongside the broader market Tuesday as the prospect of a deepening conflict in Iran revived inflation fears, as oil prices spiked higher. <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-7">Brent crude oil<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span>, the international benchmark, topped $84 a barrel, while <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-8">WTI crude<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> jumped to above $77.</p>
<p>Even gold was caught up in the selling frenzy, odd for a safe haven asset usually turned to during times of crises. But investors appeared indiscriminate in dumping assets they fear may have gone too far, too fast. </p>

<p>Good morning. America&#8217;s favorite groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow this morning, meaning we&#8217;re in for six more weeks of winter. After the recent string of cold temperatures, I can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m surprised.</p>
<p>Stock futures are sliding this morning. The three major indexes are coming off a losing day.</p>
<p>Here are five key things investors need to know to start the trading day:</p>

<h2 class="ArticleBody-subtitle"><a id="headline0"/>1. All that glitters</h2>

Notably, CFO Hugh Johnston told CNBC that the company&#8217;s experiences division — which houses its theme parks, resorts and cruises — hit $10 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time ever.</p>
<p>As investors parse through the report, there&#8217;s one question lingering on everyone&#8217;s minds: Who will succeed CEO Bob Iger? Disney previously said it would announce its next leader in the first quarter of this year. The company&#8217;s board is slated to meet this week and expected to vote on Iger&#8217;s successor, people familiar with the matter told CNBC.</p>

<p>Women and people over 55 drove ticket sales for screenings, with the two demographics together accounting for more than 70% of moviegoers. Rural theaters also represented an outsized share of box office grosses.</p>

<p>Rising inflation and debt, a weakening U.S. dollar, the government shutdown, and Wall Street&#8217;s newest buzz, the &#8220;debasement trade,&#8221; have all boosted assets beyond stocks and bonds.</p>
<p>&#8220;This whole debasement trade is benefiting gold,&#8221; Amplify ETFs CEO Christian Magoon said on CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;ETF Edge&#8221; this week.</p>
<p>The Federal Reserve&#8217;s battle with inflation and the mounting national debt have heightened investor concern about long-term currency stability. As of early October, the U.S. gross federal debt stands at around $3.7 trillion, according to <a href="https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/datasets/debt-to-the-penny/debt-to-the-penny" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fiscal Data from the Treasury.</a> The <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-5">U.S. dollar index (DXY<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span>) has declined roughly 8% since the beginning of the year.</p>
<p>Both gold and bitcoin are being treated as safe havens in a market shaped by inflation and policy risk. Gold first surged past $4,000 Tuesday, hitting an all-time high. The precious metal continues to rally as uncertainty fuels it. Bitcoin joined gold in the debasement trade as a digital alternative to traditional currencies. The cryptocurrency broke a little over $126,000 early this week, setting a new all-time high.</p>
<p>The so-called &#8220;debasement trade&#8221; is a bet that government borrowing and money printing will erode the value of the U.S. dollar, and is leading more investors to flock to safe-haven assets. </p>
<p>&#8220;Inflation is substantially above target and substantially above target in all forecasts for next year. It&#8217;s part of the reason the dollar&#8217;s depreciated,&#8221; Citadel&#8217;s CEO Ken Griffin told Bloomberg Monday. &#8220;Gold is at record highs and the appreciation on other dollar substitutes &#8230; in items like crypto, for example, is unbelievable.&#8221;</p>

<p>The move has not come out of nowhere for gold. It has now bested the performance of all major U.S. equity market indexes year-to-date, and over the past one-year and three-year periods.</p>
<p>Gold continues to attract steady inflows, while <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-8">silver<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> has gained around 66% since the beginning of the year, with the precious metal surging to $50, an all-time high on Thursday.</p>
<p>&#8220;We see silver going from the high 40s to into the 60s over the next 12 months,&#8221; Magoon said on &#8220;ETF Edge.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re in the sixth year of limited supply and silver in the trends, from an industrial standpoint, are only getting more bullish for silver,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>October is historically the most volatile month of the year on Wall Street, and Jay Jacobs, <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-10">BlackRock<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span>&#8216;s head of equity ETFs, says he&#8217;s seeing many clients reposition their portfolios, shifting into global monetary alternatives. Jacobs told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;ETF Edge&#8221; this week some traders are seeking non-sovereign assets that behave differently than stocks and bonds, including gold, silver and cryptocurrencies. &#8220;People are looking for assets that live outside of the traditional system. That can be a bit of a portfolio,&#8221; Jacobs said.</p>
<p>Jacobs said <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-11">SPDR Gold Trust (GLD)<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> and <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-12">iShares Gold Trust (IAU)<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> remain heavyweight options for gold exposure. Meanwhile, <span class="QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer" data-test="QuoteInBody" id="SpecialReportArticle-QuoteInBody-13">iShares Silver Trust (SLV)<span class="QuoteInBody-inlineButton"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer" id="-WatchlistDropdown" data-analytics-id="-WatchlistDropdown"><button class="AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton" aria-label="Add To Watchlist" data-testid="dropdown-btn"><span class="AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag"/></button></span></span></span> is a go-to for silver, and iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) is seeing interest from those who want regular exposure.</p>
<p>The bitcoin ETF has recently also been besting the biggest U.S. equity ETFs in weekly flows.</p>
<p>Billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Squawk Box&#8221; on Monday he would own a combination of gold, cryptocurrencies and Nasdaq tech stocks between now and the end of the year, to take advantage of the rally fueled by the &#8220;fear of missing out.&#8221; </p>
<p>Jones shot to fame after he predicted and profited from the 1987 stock market crash.</p>
<p>&#8220;Bear markets are tough,&#8221; Magoon said. &#8220;This is a way to hide out or profit during times of uncertainty,&#8221; Magoon said.</p>
<p>But he also added that &#8220;often times, bull markets crawl up a &#8216;wall of worry&#8217;. It seems like one of these &#8216;wall of worries&#8217;, that&#8217;s going to dissipate, and we&#8217;re going to have, I think a good fourth quarter.&#8221;</p>
<p>Stocks turned sharply lower on Friday as a new risk presented itself amid the rising tensions between the U.S. and China over rare earth elements, with President Trump threatening &#8220;massive&#8221; new tariffs.</p>
<p>Jacobs said earlier this week on &#8220;ETF Edge&#8221; that there is strong momentum going forward and heading into 2026, including enthusiasm around corporate earnings, and optimism surrounding potential rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.</p>
<p>According to Fed minutes released Wednesday, policy makers were nearly unanimous that the central bank should cut interest rates, due to weakness in the labor market, but they disagreed over whether there should be two or three total cuts this year, including the quarter percentage point reduction approved at last month&#8217;s meeting.</p>
<p>Jacobs said there are reasons for the hot trades beyond stocks and bonds to continue. &#8220;If we continue to see geopolitical uncertainty, continue to see inflation uncertainty, people are looking for assets that live outside of the traditional system,&#8221; he said.</p>

<p>&#8220;Zero-day to expiration&#8221; or &#8220;0DTE&#8221; refers to a trade which expires in less than a day. It has taken the options market by storm. The volume of S&amp;P 500 zero-day contracts has increased at least 40%, versus 5% in 2016, according to data from the <a href="https://www.cboe.com/insights/posts/volatility-insights-evaluating-the-market-impact-of-spx-0-dte-options/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBOE</a>.</p>
<p>Not everyone is excited about the new ETF offerings, due to the complexity of the trade.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m cautious about these products because I agree they&#8217;re problematic for undereducated retail investors that don&#8217;t know how to trade the options market,&#8221; Dave Nadig, VettaFi&#8217;s financial futurist, told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;ETF Edge&#8221; on Monday.</p>
<p>The surge in activity surrounding zero-day options has some analysts worried about a negative impact on the market.</p>
<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think the tools themselves are inherently breaking the market,&#8221; Nadig said. &#8220;Like most market structure things, it&#8217;s not a problem until it is.&#8221;</p>
<p>Nadig also said he believes that most of the contracts are coming from hedge funds, not retail investors.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is largely institutions, hedge funds and day traders, using these as short-term leverage speculative vehicles with the extra added bonus that they never have to settle,&#8221; Nadig said. &#8220;I think most individual investors probably don&#8217;t have any business in here at all. They&#8217;re naturally very speculative because of the inherent leverage.&#8221;</p>
