“Lauderdale has been a star for us,” JetBlue President Marty St. George said this month about Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Capitalizing on growth at the Broward County airport is key for JetBlue as it revamps its network and rolls out more high-end options like a domestic first-class cabin to return to profitability. Its last profitable quarter was two years ago.

JetBlue was looking to expand in Fort Lauderdale even before Spirit Airlines, the South Florida-based discounter that was No. 1 at the airport, collapsed on May 2 under the weight of debt and years of snowballing problems.

JetBlue is now the top carrier with 36% market share by capacity at the airport, according to a Cirium tally of 2026 capacity, up from about 24% a year earlier. From May to June of this year, JetBlue added 5% more capacity, while big competitors pulled back in the Florida offseason, according to Cirium.

The carrier has about 106 flights scheduled a day for this year on average, up from about 68 a day last year, Cirium data shows.

Just hours after Spirit’s collapse, JetBlue and other airlines laid out their own travel plans, adding flights to fill the void at Fort Lauderdale.

JetBlue raised its revenue forecast for the year on June 1, citing strong demand.

“I’m feeling very, very bullish about how customers have responded to JetBlue’s growth,” St. George said.

JetBlue says it’s planning for even more growth as additional gates become available after Spirit’s demise. Some of those gates are still tied up in bankruptcy court.

JetBlue’s plan is to operate about 150 daily flights at Fort Lauderdale in the peak winter months, which include Presidents Day weekend and some school breaks, a schedule that will put it on par with JetBlue’s Boston Logan International Airport hub, its largest after New York.

The plan includes more international destinations leaving from Fort Lauderdale and a focus on premium air travel.

St. George said the carrier has been reviewing sites for a lounge — which would be the third in its network — at Fort Lauderdale to cater to those customers. It already has lounges at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and in Boston.

“It is unclear right now where we would put a lounge,” he said. “The airport folks, I think, are equally motivated to have a lounge down there. Certainly, given the size of our operation and the number of premium customers going in and out of Fort Lauderdale, I think [it makes] a lot of sense, we just have to find the right location.”

The big competitive threat lies about 26 miles south, at Miami International Airport, an American Airlines hub that dwarfs Fort Lauderdale. Both airports, though Miami is much larger, are major hubs for leisure customers as well as those visiting friends and relatives in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“There’s a good number of customers for [whom] Miami is the right airport, who will never leave Miami, and we’re not planning on converting those customers,” St. George said. “I do think that as we get more service in Fort Lauderdale as a bigger breadth of destinations, that utility of Lauderdale Airport will go up.”

American on Friday said it plans to operate a record 100 destinations to the Caribbean, Mexico and other airports in Latin America from the U.S., with 77 of them leaving from Miami, including a new flight to Maracaibo, Venezuela, from July 14 and to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, starting Nov. 1.

JetBlue, for its part, announced Fort Lauderdale to Caracas service recently, as carriers build up flights. American in January announced it would resume resume service to Venezuela from the United States for the first time since 2019, weeks after the U.S. captured Venezuela’s president.

However, executives said that Burger King’s progress on remodeling U.S. restaurants slowed last year in response to higher costs, and the chain will no longer meet its 2028 deadline to modernize 85% of its domestic locations. The news disappointed investors, and shares of the company fell 6% in afternoon trading.

Here’s what the company reported for the period ended Dec. 31 compared with what Wall Street was expecting, based on a survey of analysts by LSEG:

Earnings per share: 96 cents adjusted vs. 95 cents expected

Revenue: $2.47 billion vs. $2.41 billion expected

Restaurant Brands reported fourth-quarter net income attributable to shareholders of $113 million, or 34 cents per share, down from $259 million, or 79 cents per share, a year earlier.

Excluding transaction costs, restructuring expenses and other items, the company reported adjusted earnings of 96 cents per share.

Net sales rose 7.4% to $2.47 billion. Stripping out currency fluctuations and sales from restaurants it plans to refranchise, Restaurant Brands’ organic revenue ticked up 6.5%.

The company’s same-store sales increased 3.1%, fueled by strong international growth.

Outside of the U.S. and Canada, Restaurant Brands’ same-store sales climbed 6.1%. International Burger King restaurants, which represents the bulk of the segment, saw same-store sales growth of 5.8%.

Analysts were projecting international same-store sales growth of just 3.7%, based on StreetAccount estimates.

And Restaurant Brands plans to keep growing its business abroad. In November, the company announced its plan to form a joint venture for Burger King China to accelerate expansion. Under the terms of the deal, which closed in late January, CPE, a Chinese alternative asset manager, owns roughly 83% of Burger King China. Restaurant Brands has retained a minority stake of about 17%, along with a seat on the board of directors.

Restaurant results

Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons reported same-store sales growth of 2.9%, although Wall Street was projecting an increase of 3.8%, according to StreetAccount. Tim Hortons accounted for 46% of Restaurant Brands’ overall revenue during the quarter.

Burger King reported overall same-store sales growth of 2.7%, topping StreetAccount estimates of 2.4%. The burger chain has leaned into promotions, like the SpongeBob SquarePants menu that launched in December, to fuel traffic growth from families.

“We didn’t need to rely on deep discounting to drive top-line results,” Restaurant Brands Executive Chairman Patrick Doyle said on the company’s conference call.

The chain offers $5 duo and $7 trio combo meals to reach budget-conscious diners, but it has kept its value offerings consistent, helping Burger King save on marketing dollars, Restaurant Brands CEO Josh Kobza told CNBC.

Burger King has also dealt with higher costs, particularly from rising beef prices. Executives said beef costs climbed 20% in 2025, putting pressure on profits for the chain and its franchisees.

Popeyes was the laggard of Restaurant Brands’ portfolio. Its same-store sales fell 4.8%, a steeper decline than the 2.4% decrease forecast by Wall Street.

But the company has plans to revive the embattled fried chicken chain. To bring back customers, Popeyes needs to focus on its operations and core menu items, like its famous chicken sandwich, Kobza said.

In November, Restaurant Brands tapped Burger King veteran Peter Perdue to lead the chain’s U.S. and Canadian business; last month, the company also named Popeyes veteran Matt Rubin as the chain’s latest chief marketing officer.

“We’ve been very upfront that sales are not where they should be, and you saw us make leadership changes in 2025 and earlier this year,” Doyle said. “As a result, I’m confident that the steps we’re taking, particularly the renewed focus on operations, consistency and brand standards, will translate into better performance over time.”

Restaurant Brands plans to share more of its ideas to grow the business at its investor day in Miami on Feb. 26.

“There is a very strong increase in defense spending in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and in the Americas—it’s growing everywhere,” Sourisse, who is also Thales’s senior vice president for international development, told Fortune on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow.

That pushed the French company, No. 190 on Fortune’s Europe 500, to “extensively” ramp up production. Sourisse cited radars as an example: Thales has quadrupled its production of radars to cater to rising demand for air surveillance.

Unmanned aircraft—both the aircraft themselves, and how to shoot them down—drove much of the conversation at the Singapore Airshow. Thales, Sourisse said, is working on ways to “manage swarms of drones and solutions to counter drone attacks—what you would call Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems, or C-UAS.”

Thales shares have risen by more than 50% over the past 12 months, as part of a global boom in defense stocks as investors bet that geopolitical tensions and the return of armed conflict in places like Ukraine will drive demand for new weapons and defenses.

Concerns about the reliability of the U.S. and its security alliances are also pushing companies to think about sourcing arms from other regions, including Europe and East Asia. Defense firms like Germany’s Rheinmetall, South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace, Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Engineering and Singapore’s ST Engineering have all reported more-than-100% gains in share price over the past 12 months.

Civil aviation, avionics and AI

Beyond defense, Thales is also a major player in avionics and civil aviation. The company is investing aggressively in AI-enabled flight systems to optimize flight paths and enhance safety.

In the past, pilots could only react to storm clouds once onboard radars detected them. Sourisse explained that airlines can now feed weather forecast data into Thales’s AI-enabled systems, allowing flight paths to be optimized right after take-off.

AI also powers the company’s air traffic control systems, which can analyze forecasts to minimize delays at busy air hubs like Singapore’s Changi Airport. This reduces the time pilots spend in the air waiting for a slot to land; Sourisse estimates that these tools can cut fuel consumption by about 10%.

Airlines may welcome these tools amid a global surge in travel. “Passenger traffic has already surpassed pre-COVID levels in key hubs like Singapore,” Sourisse said. “You need to handle this growth without compromising safety or security.”

Thales’s cybersecurity arm has grown since its 2019 acquisition of Gemalto, a Dutch digital security firm. Thales’s Singapore facility now produces more than 200 million banking cards, 12 million identity cards, and nearly 10 million passport data pages annually for customers worldwide. “Thales produces consumer-oriented products like these payment cards, which many have in their pockets and use—even without knowing who makes it,” Sourisse quipped.

Last week, Thales announced that it was going to invest in new automated technologies in its Singapore plant, saying it was “fully aligned” with the country’s ambition to be “a global hub for advanced, high-tech manufacturing.”

Moving forward, Sourisse sees the business deepening its roots in Asia, citing Southeast Asia’s Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, and East Asia’s China, Japan and South Korea as markets to watch.

Thales is also expanding its presence in India, where they currently already have a team of 2,300 employees. “That is going to increase tremendously,” Sourisse says. “We have activities in many sectors in India, and very large engineering centers.”

Thales generated 15.3 billion euros ($18.1 billion) in revenue for the first nine months of 2025, an 8.4% year-on-year increase. Almost 80% of that revenue came from what Thales deemed “mature markets”, namely Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.

The defense business generated 8.2 billion euros ($9.8 billion) in revenue, making up just over half of the total. Growing at 14% year-on-year, it was also the fastest growing part of Thales’s business.

After spending most of the past decade being trounced by the U.S. stock market, international equities are back and investing experts say the opportunity should last.

A brutal stretch of underperformance that lasted a decade ended in late 2024 and has sustained its momentum at the outset of 2026. After years of global allocations staying low for most U.S.-based investors because of the weak returns, the recent gains amid shifting macro conditions and growing concerns about U.S. market concentration are leading investors to take another look at the lack of international exposure in their portfolios.

It is not merely chasing hot recent performance, according to Tim Seymour, Seymour Asset Management chief investment officer, who is also a portfolio manager on the Amplify CWP International Enhanced Dividend Income ETF (IDVO). “This is not people saying … this is a time to trade global markets,” he said on this week’s CNBC’s “ETF Edge.”

Over the last ten years, global equities outside of the U.S. underperformed domestic markets by a wide margin, with Seymour noting that a major world equities benchmark ETF, the iShares MSCI ACWI ETF (ACWI), underperformed by about 60%. That gap shaped investor behavior and capital flowed into U.S. equities, particularly mega-cap technology stocks. Seymour described it as a generational dynamic among investors in which market capitalization growth in the U.S. “choked off a lot of international investing.”

But he says now the structural underweight that many U.S. investors have to global markets is a tailwind. While international equities represent roughly 30-40% of global market capitalization, Seymour estimates that at the high-end of the range, U.S. investor exposure to overseas markets is 12-15%, and in many cases much lower.

International equities began to outperform the U.S. in November 2024, and since that turn have beaten U.S. equities by roughly 15%, Seymour said. While that does not erase the decade of lagging returns, it marks a meaningful inflection point. “In a 14-month span, you’ve seen international outperform the U.S.” Seymour said. While the ten-year chart versus the U.S. stock market still looks poor, “it really is a story of where global growth has picked back up,” he added.

A popular exchange-traded fund choice among many U.S. investors to gain international exposure is the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM), which has $26.55 billion in assets and has returned 42% over the past year. The iShares MSCI ACWI ETF is up 20% over the past year, besting the S&P 500’s return by about 5%. Seymour said while the potential returns from emerging markets are higher, investors who are looking to diversify overseas should tilt more heavily to developed market allocations, citing a 70%-30% split as a reasonable example.

Part of the renewed interest in overseas markets is tied to currency. A weakening U.S. dollar has improved returns for dollar-based investors holding foreign assets. Meanwhile, metals have surged as investors look for stores of value, an investing development that Seymour described it as a global trade rather than a U.S. only phenomenon.

“These are all providing tailwinds and a weakening dollar, of course, where this is leading investors to diversify their overall portfolios that had been previously U.S.-centric portfolios,” Jon Maier, J.P Morgan Asset Management chief ETF strategist, said on “ETF Edge.”

Seymour said the most important point for investors to understand when considering the additional of international stocks to a portfolio is that the fundamentals are improving. Earnings growth is appearing in places where stagnation once defined the outlook. Japan is a key example, he said, where years of corporate governance reform and shareholder focus is starting to boost returns.

Europe is also benefitting from lower interest rates, fiscal spending, and regulatory change. Seymour argued that deregulation in Europe may be a more powerful catalyst than similar efforts in the U.S. because it represents a sharper shift from the past. Banking, utilities, and industrials have all seen renewed momentum. He added that in additional to a decade of underperformance making these stocks cheap on a relative basis, many European banking stocks will benefit as much from central bank policy as U.S. banks and are better dividend plays, such as Barclays, Santander and SocGen.

Maier echoed this general view, saying that “developed international markets are certainly areas of interest to our clients.”

International markets also offer exposure to recent winning trades, including precious metals. Latin America has been one of the strongest performing regions this year, driven by gold and copper. Seymour said Chile and Peru are examples of international markets benefitting from rising commodity demand. Meanwhile, Brazil has gained on both commodity strength and shifting political expectations.

“Brazil’s the largest economy in Latin America,” Seymour said. “Some of this are the dynamics around commodities, but some of these are the dynamics around the geopolitics.”

The iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (EWZ), which has $8.91 billion in assets, is up almost 49% over the past year, while the iShares MSCI Peru and Global Exposure ETF (EPU) is up almost 118% during the same time period.

The dollar and metals trades came under pressure on Friday after President Trump announced Kevin Warsh as his pick to succeed Jerome Powell as Fed Chair, with market belief in Warsh as figure who will maintain Fed independence rather than force rates down at the president’s bidding. Gold, silver and platinum all crashed. However, these metals have seen enormous returns over the past year, with gold up over 90%, silver up roughly 200%, and platinum up 120%.

Market strategists say Trump administration global policies will continue to serve as longer-term tailwinds for international-themed trades. “Whether it is India and the EU cutting a trade deal or Canada cutting oil deals with China, the rest of the world is repositioning,” Seymour said.

Technology leadership is another trade where investors are reassessing the balance between U.S. and overseas holdings. Seymour highlighted South Korea as example, noting the country’s market is heavily weighted toward memory chip leaders like Samsung and SK Hynix, which make up around 46% of the South Korean stock market benchmark tracked by the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY), which is up 125% over the past year. “Memory has been on fire,” he said, making country level ETFs a practical way to gain exposure. Apple said on its earnings call on Thursday it can’t secure enough chips for iPhone demand, another sign supporting the strength of the memory trade.

Seymour noted other companies that are among the biggest chip players in the world, ASML and Taiwan Semi, also reside outside U.S., and there are many data center plays overseas as well.

The renewed interest in international equities reflects broader reallocation after years of neglect. Investors are responding to valuation gaps, earnings growth, and a world where capital and trade are increasingly multi directional. “These are global trades, not just U.S. trades,” Seymour said.

BEIJING — China’s economic slowdown isn’t discouraging U.S. and European brands from revamping their strategies to reach Chinese shoppers.

Instead, the allure of the world’s second-largest consumer market is forcing companies to adapt in the face of growing competition from local brands.

In the case of Kraft Heinz, getting more people in China to buy ketchup this year also meant hiring a local agency to help create catchy campaigns — decorating subway station columns to mimic ketchup bottles and promoting the condiment as a fresh twist on a popular dish: stir-fried eggs and tomatoes.

It’s a hard market to tackle, even for Shanghai-based marketing firm Good Idea Growth Network (GGN). The agency has witnessed at least five different waves of consumer trends in its 14-year history, founder Stephy Liu, said in Mandarin, translated by CNBC. “The gameplay keeps on changing.”

But GGN has succeeded even after rejecting an acquisition offer from British advertising giant WPP, Liu said, noting that about half of her clients are foreign brands.

While Kraft Heinz isn’t done with its China ketchup campaign yet, the company reported second-quarter net sales in emerging markets climbed by 4.2% from a year ago, helping offset declines in North America.

WPP explored a potential acquisition of GGN but did not end up going far in the process, according to a person familiar with the discussions.

Kraft Heinz did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

From Starbucks’ struggles to Lululemon’s successes in China, it’s become clear that the right mix of localization is essential.

“Among international brands in China, the winners are often dedicating more than 40% of revenue to marketing, especially content and platform-first marketing, while also iterating products locally based on market data,” said Jacob Cooke, co-founder and CEO of WPIC Marketing + Technologies, which helps foreign brands sell in China.

This year, Cooke said that Under Armour has created products under 100 yuan ($14) in order to attract a mass of buyers online, while using livestreams with dedicated users to then build fitness communities and sell more premium products offline.

ByteDance-owned Douyin has become an e-commerce force in the last few years since celebrities and companies started using the app for livestreaming sales during the pandemic. And by the numbers, there’s little question that jumping into the Xiaohongshu and Douyin world is worthwhile for businesses.

Adapting to that new social commerce ecosystem has become the biggest challenge for brands in the last two years, GGN’s Liu said. “Foreign brands will think, ‘Isn’t this just TikTok?'”

She warned that success requires a complex strategy that can involve changing everything from how a team is structured to the kinds of products sold. But the payoff is significant.

Data is power

In addition to social media, a critical factor in many companies’ strategies is access to hordes of data on what consumers in China are buying.

Chinese e-commerce platforms, including Alibaba’s Tmall, share far more data on what’s popular than Amazon.com does, WPIC’s Cooke said. In China, “people generally know what their competitors are selling and what they’re selling for.”

With that granular data, Chinese makeup brand Perfect Diary was able to succeed by identifying a market pain point and creating a lipstick targeted at that lower price segment, Cooke said. He noted that’s pressured foreign brands to create China-specific products as well, a big shift over the last five years.

E-commerce platforms in China also often show rough figures on how many orders were placed per product, while third-party companies such as Syntun offer significant amounts of product rankings and other online sales data for free.

The electronics-focused platform announced that the first minute of iPhone 17 series preorders surpassed the first-day preorder volume of last year’s iPhone 16 series.

Apple’s story also underscores how it’s possible to reignite local interest despite losing market share to domestic competition. Some customers in Beijing told CNBC that they liked the iPhone’s new cosmic orange color, and that more locals intended to buy their first iPhone this year since they’d heard about new attractive features such as larger internal storage.

China’s factories were quick to jump on the trend, releasing iPhone cases with a similar orange hue even before the 17 model was out.

“Winning brands are those that have established local R&D centers and on-the-ground product teams,” said Ashley Dudarenok, founder of ChoZan, a China marketing consultancy. “This allows them to spot trends early, develop products tailored to local needs, and launch them in months, not years. This is a significant departure from the past, where global products were often simply rolled out in the Chinese market.”

Cultural connection

Even with the right data and social media platforms, cultural integration is becoming increasingly important, especially as Chinese brands find success in tapping the country’s own history of artisanal craftsmanship.

“Brands are moving beyond superficial nods to Chinese culture,” Dudarenok said. She pointed out that Loewe partnered with jade carving masters, while Burberry teamed up with bamboo-weaving artists.

And despite declining sales in China’s luxury market, LVMH this summer opened an eye-catching ship-shaped store in Shanghai — immediately generating much local buzz.

In contrast to LVMH’s luggage-shaped store in Manhattan, the Shanghai location taps into the Chinese city’s history as a port of entry for international travelers to Asia roughly a century ago.

The new store also captures the European brand’s roots in hand-crafted travel trunks — which contrasts with Chinese brands’ inability to offer the same emotional appeal, Joe Ngai, chairman of greater China at McKinsey, pointed out in a LinkedIn post.

“As Chinese customers grow in their confidence and desire for local elements,” he said, “creating more crossovers between West and East is one of the unique opportunities for multinationals in China.”

Anthropic is stepping up its global enterprise ambitions.

The $183 billion artificial intelligence startup has grown its business customer base from under 1,000 to more than 300,000 in just two years, as demand for Claude’s models accelerates across industries and regions.

On Friday, the company announced it will triple its international workforce and expand its applied AI team fivefold in 2025, as it scales beyond the U.S. and intensifies competition with OpenAI, Microsoft and Google.

That expansion comes as international demand increasingly drives the company’s momentum.

Claude’s global usage has reached an inflection point: nearly 80% of activity now comes from outside the United States. On a per-person basis, adoption in countries like South Korea, Australia and Singapore has already surpassed that of the U.S.

In an exclusive interview, Chief Commercial Officer Paul Smith told CNBC that Anthropic’s international growth is outpacing even their most ambitious forecasts, with major customers coming online well before boots hit the ground.

“What is amazing is we haven’t, up until recently, had significant human presence in Europe, in Japan, in our international markets, and yet we already have a very, very significant business over there,” said Smith.

He pointed to rapid adoption in sectors like life sciences and sovereign wealth management.

At Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceutical giant behind Ozempic, Claude helped compress what’s typically a three-month analysis and reporting phase at the end of a drug development cycle into just a few days.

Smith said Anthropic is now ramping up hiring across its priority global markets.

Microsoft and Google, meanwhile, are embedding AI into every layer of their productivity, cloud and developer ecosystems — making it easier for CIOs to tack on tools like Copilot or Gemini without overhauling their stack.

Anthropic is betting that companies want more than an add-on.

The pitch is a pure-play AI experience, with direct access to Claude’s frontier models — not just a wrapper inside legacy software. That strategy has become a key point of differentiation as enterprises shift from experimentation to implementation at scale.

Across sectors, organizations are now embedding AI into core workflows, not just for summarization or chat, but for tasks like customer service, fraud detection, regulatory analysis, code review and complex decision-making.

Still, Smith said most large enterprises are adopting hybrid strategies combining direct access to Claude with integrations through AWS, Google Cloud and other third-party platforms, and emphasized that these partnerships are additive, not competitive.

“There’s a very good reason why, if you’re an AWS customer, you should also consume Anthropic through Bedrock — and if you’re a great Google customer, through Vertex,” he said.

Ultimately, he said, an enterprise will have a multifaceted relationship with a player like Anthropic.

Anthropic’s applied AI team, which helps customers deploy Claude at scale, is set to grow fivefold in the next year.

Unlike some rivals, the company doesn’t rely on productivity suite integration or a legacy install base. Its focus is on building deep, domain-specific systems tailored to verticals like telecom, pharmaceuticals, financial services and government.

“You need the applied AI team that understands their particular industry context,” Smith said.

He explained that true enterprise deployment also requires a broader ecosystem: both large global systems integrators and niche consultancies trained to implement Claude Code and build custom agents.

“We’re meticulously working through everything that you need that removes the barriers to adoption in these very large enterprises,” Smith said, emphasizing that enterprise isn’t just one part of their business, it’s the entire focus.

At the same time, OpenAI has been aggressively scaling its international enterprise efforts.

OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap has grown the company’s go-to-market team from about 50 to more than 700 over the past 18 months, spanning sales, customer success, developer relations, and strategic partnerships.

Last month, OpenAI opened offices in Brazil, India, and Australia — and this week in Abilene, Texas, CEO Sam Altman told CNBC that usage of ChatGPT has surged roughly tenfold over the past 18 months, thanks in large part to growth on the enterprise side.

That momentum continued on Thursday, when OpenAI deepened its enterprise reach with a formal integration into Databricks — signaling a new phase in its push for commercial adoption.

As enterprise AI adoption accelerates, so too does scrutiny.

A recent MIT study found that many so-called deployments have shown little to no measurable impact — raising real questions about how deeply these tools are actually being integrated. But Anthropic executives say Claude is already delivering tangible results at scale.

Across Europe and Asia-Pacific, Claude is powering core enterprise operations.

At Norway’s Norges Bank Investment Management, the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund, Claude helps analyze multi-billion-dollar investments and has already saved 213,000 hours, a 20% productivity gain across 9,000 portfolio companies.

Novo Nordisk cut clinical documentation time from more than 10 weeks to 10 minutes and halved review cycles. SK Telecom, which is deploying Claude in Korea as part of a company-wide AI overhaul, boosted customer service quality by 34%. The European Parliament made millions of historical documents searchable and translatable, and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia slashed scam losses by 50%.

“The demand signal we’ve got is unprecedented. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen,” said Smith. “There isn’t a single enterprise in the world where they don’t have some kind of software development backlog.”

Smith said Claude Code, launched in May, is already a $500 million product, with usage up 10x in just three months.

“It’s one of the fastest-growing products that’s ever been launched,” he said. “It’s an entry point. Happens to be an incredibly popular entry point right now.”

But the impact goes well beyond software development.

Localization — both linguistic and cultural — is part of what Ciauri sees as a key differentiator. He pointed to Panasonic’s Claude integration as an example, with the Japanese conglomerate using their models tailored to local language and cultural context.

“That’s a super important differentiator as you think about how you really maximize results for enterprise,” said Ciauri.

“You get these pockets of success,” Smith added, “that you can then start to scale.”

A key concern area is international sales, with 76% of Intel’s revenue in its last fiscal year coming from outside the U.S., according to the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company had $53.1 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2024, down 2% from the year prior.

For Intel’s international customers, the company is now directly tied to President Donald Trump’s ever-shifting tariff and trade policies.

“There could be adverse reactions, immediately or over time, from investors, employees, customers, suppliers, other business or commercial partners, foreign governments or competitors,” the company wrote in the filing. “There may also be litigation related to the transaction or otherwise and increased public or political scrutiny with respect to the Company.”

Intel also said that the potential for a changing political landscape in Washington could challenge or void the deal and create risks to current and future shareholders.

The deal, which was announced Friday, gives the Department of Commerce up to 433.3 million shares of the company, which is dilutive to existing shareholders. The purchase of shares is being funded largely by money already awarded to Intel under President Joe Biden’s CHIPS Act.

Intel has already received $2.2 billion from the program and is set for another $5.7 billion. A separate federal program awarded $3.2 billion, for a total of $11.1 billion, according to a release.

Trump called the agreement “a great Deal for America” and said the building of advanced chips “is fundamental to the future of our Nation.”

Shares of Intel rallied as momentum built toward a deal in August, with the stock up about 25%.

The agreement requires the government to vote with Intel’s board of directors. In the Monday filing, the company noted that the government stake “reduces the voting and other governance rights of stockholders and may limit potential future transactions that may be beneficial to stockholders.”

Furthermore, the company acknowledged in the filing that it has not completed an analysis of all “financial, tax and accounting implications.”

Intel’s tumultuous fiscal year 2024 included the exit of CEO Pat Gelsinger in December after a four-year tenure during which the stock price tanked and the company lost ground to rivals in the artificial intelligence boom.

CEO Lip-Bu Tan took the helm in March.

Shares of the company fell more than 4% in morning trading.

Here’s what the company reported for the period ended June 30 compared with what Wall Street was expecting, based on a survey of analysts by LSEG:

Earnings per share: 94 cents adjusted vs. 97 cents expected

Revenue: $2.41 billion vs. $2.32 billion expected

Restaurant Brands reported second-quarter net income attributable to shareholders of $189 million, or 57 cents per share, down from $280 million, or 88 cents per share, a year earlier.

Excluding transaction costs from its acquisition of Burger King China and other one-time costs, the company earned 94 cents per share.

Net sales climbed 16% to $2.41 billion.

The company’s same-store sales, which only tracks the metric at restaurants open at least a year, rose 2.4% during the quarter.

CEO Josh Kobza told CNBC that Restaurant Brands has seen a “modest improvement” in the consumer environment compared with the first quarter, when the company’s three largest brands saw same-store sales decline.

This quarter, Restaurant Brands’ international restaurants reported same-store sales growth of 4.2%.

Tim Hortons, which accounts for more than 40% of Restaurant Brands’ total revenue, reported same-store sales growth of 3.4%. In April, the Canadian coffee chain launched the Scrambled Eggs Loaded Breakfast Box, and the following month it brought actor Ryan Reynolds on to promote it, which executives called a “big success.”

Burger King reported same-store sales growth of 1.3%. Its U.S. division, which has been in turnaround mode for nearly three years, saw same-store sales increase by 1.5%. Burger King’s domestic marketing has focused on the Whopper and targeting families with offerings like its “How to Train Your Dragon” movie tie-in meal. More than half of its U.S. restaurants have been renovated since the turnaround began; the burger chain aims to have 85% of its U.S. footprint upgraded by 2028.

“We saw the turning point at Tims in Canada a few years ago, and we’re working towards that same kind of turning point at Burger King U.S.,” Restaurant Brands Chair Patrick Doyle said on the company’s conference call.

Popeyes was the laggard of the portfolio for the most recent quarter, reporting same-store sales declines of 1.4%. But the fried chicken chain’s results have improved compared with the first three months of the year, when its same-store sales slid 4%. To lift sales in the second half of the year, Popeyes has a “bunch of innovation” on its schedule, Kobza said. The chain has also been trying to improve its store operations.

As beef prices rise and consumer preferences shift away from red meat, more fast-food chains have been leaning into chicken. McDonald’s released its McCrispy Strips and brought back its Snack Wraps, while Yum Brands’ Taco Bell launched Crispy Chicken Nuggets.

The increased competition has put pressure on Popeyes — and likely some of its biggest rivals, like Chick-fil-A, which doesn’t disclose its quarterly results because it is privately held.

For the full year, Restaurant Brands reiterated its forecast, anticipating that it will spend between $400 million and $450 million on consolidated capital expenditures, tenant inducements and other incentives. The company also said that it still expects to reach its long-term algorithm, which projects 3% same-store sales growth and 8% organic adjusted operating income growth on average between 2024 and 2028.
