Prediction market platform Kalshi is developing a new interface for its highly engaged traders to track the company’s prediction markets, according to a source familiar with the plans.

The product, which the source compared to the “Bloomberg Terminal” for traditional equities and derivatives, is currently in alpha testing with a select group of traders on the platform and has been in development for about a month.

Some of the features of the interface, which were shown to CNBC, include tracking popular contracts by 24-hour volumes across various categories, the ability to see all trades as they’re actively placed and also to view individual contracts’ order books. Users can customize their interfaces to see event contracts related to their own portfolios and are able to manage multiple positions in varying markets at the same time. Traders also can enable an option to reduce the friction to place trades.

Kalshi declined a request to comment.

The source said the company is creating the software to establish a singular product for its highest engaged retail traders, colloquially known as “sharps,” who typically use custom workflows to enhance their trades and gain an edge. The source didn’t know if Kalshi plans to monetize the platform, either at a potential launch or in the future.

In April, Fortune reported that venture capital firm Paradigm, a major Kalshi investor, was building its own prediction markets data platform. However, the report said that platform was in development for market makers and professional traders.

Long-term, the Kalshi source said the company’s platform may include research and other external information, similar to that of Bloomberg’s popular product serving Wall Street traders and investors. Kalshi’s market data is currently accessible on Bloomberg’s platform.

Bloomberg’s system is still referred to as a “terminal” even though it switched from a closed computer system to a software package long ago.

While the Kalshi product will focus on its prediction markets, the source added that a goal is to extend it to the company’s other asset classes. On Friday, Kalshi announced it received approval to offer perpetual futures on cryptocurrencies.

That announcement came one day after the company launched another product, its American Power Index, which it calls a real-time measure of political power using Kalshi’s data.

The source did not include a timeline for an official launch of the new terminal product.

Disclosure: CNBC and Kalshi have a commercial relationship that includes customer acquisition and a minority investment.

It’s Luckin’s first major departure from its original strategy of operating budget-priced coffee kiosks – a move that helped the company overtake Starbucks in terms of the number of storefronts in China.

Now, with the U.S. company selling off most of its struggling China business to a local investment firm, Luckin is proving it’s more than made a comeback from fraud allegations in 2020 that forced it to delist from the Nasdaq.

The Chinese company on Sunday officially opened its two-floor Luckin Coffee Origin Flagship in Shenzhen on the border with Hong Kong.

In contrast to Luckin’s typical offerings priced at roughly $1 or $2 for an Americano or latte, the flagship store has nudged prices slightly higher for a range of pour-over and cold brew coffee drinks. Customers can choose beans from Brazil, Ethiopia or China’s Yunnan province, as Luckin taps into the geographical sourcing “origin” theme popular with Starbucks and other coffee companies.

The new store also sells several specialty drinks such as a “tiramisu latte” with a pastry on top, according to posts on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu. Users have started posting about 1 to 3 hour waits for the drinks since the store’s soft launch on Jan. 20.

The 420-square-meter (4,521 square feet) store signals how intense the competition in China has become for Starbucks. Back in 2017, the U.S.-based coffee giant chose Shanghai for its second-ever Reserve Roastery “megastore,” after launching the premium store concept in Seattle three years earlier.

But as coffee has taken off in China, traditionally a tea-drinking market, Starbucks has run into a slew of competitors from boutique cafes to chains such as Cotti Coffee and Manner — which often sell drinks at half the price as Starbucks.

Luckin reported revenue of $1.55 billion for the three months ended Sept. 30, 2025, a nearly 48% increase from a year earlier.

That’s just for the company’s self-operated stores, which account for well over half of Luckin’s China locations and most of its handful of overseas stores. The new Shenzhen location is billed as Luckin’s 30,000th store. The company reported a total of 29,214 stores worldwide as at Sept. 30.

In contrast, Starbucks has just over 8,000 stores in China and around 16,900 in the U.S., its biggest market.

The Seattle-based coffee giant reported a 6% year-on-year increase in China net revenue to $831.6 million for the three months ended Sept. 28. Comparable same-store sales, a standard industry metric, was just 2%, but improved to 7% for the quarter ended Dec. 28.

Starbucks did not share China net revenue for the latest quarter. The company expects to close a deal in the spring to sell 60% of its China business to Boyu Capital, while retaining a 40% stake. When the deal was announced in November, Starbucks said it values its China business at $13 billion, including future licensing fees.

Luckin, whose shares still trade over-the-counter in the U.S., had a market value of around $10.46 billion as of Thursday.

Re-listing and expansion plans

Late last year, Luckin’s CEO Jinyi Guo hinted at plans to re-list the company in the U.S. He did not specify a date. Founded in late 2017, the company achieved a $2.9 billion valuation just 18 months later and listed on the Nasdaq in May 2019. But about a year later, Luckin said it discovered much of its 2019 sales were fabricated, leading to the stock’s delisting.

The Chinese coffee company continued to operate many of its stores — and kept its name and logo.

Luckin also jumped to attract consumers through a slew of timely collaborations — with premium spirits brand Moutai, the Minions cartoon characters and the hit video game Black Myth: Wukong just days after it surged in popularity.

What sets Luckin apart has been its ability to build a robust pool of private user traffic through its smartphone ordering app, said Mingchao Xiao, founder of Zhimeng Trends Consulting. Rather than placing orders with a counter clerk, Luckin customers select and pay for drinks directly through an app.

China’s coffee market is still in a period of rapid change, Xiao said. He added that young consumers today are more willing to try different experiences, and seek emotional fulfillment, which can be met through cross-industry brand collaborations.

It’s not clear whether Delta would consider a cheaper first- or business-class ticket that might not include perks like lounge access or seat assignments, or a potentially bigger seat that could come with add-ons that standard tickets don’t have.

But Hauenstein said Delta is testing some possibilities on customers and surveying travelers.

“We haven’t rolled it out yet, not because we don’t have the technological capability, but we want to make sure that customers understand what we’re putting in market and that they find value in it,” he said.

Henry Harteveldt, travel consultant and president of Atmosphere Research Group, said he’s not convinced that Delta would consider a stripped-down premium fare.

“Airplanes are expensive … and it’s a lot easier when you give your passengers a reason to pay you more for your product than to pay you less,” he said.

When asked whether Delta will update some of its highest-end seats, CEO Ed Bastian told CNBC Wednesday that “the premium products have had life cycles … and what we thought was state of the art six or seven years ago no longer is.

“We’re continuing to upgrade and update it. So that’s part of the cost of business,” he said. “But our product will be very, very nice.”

Sales of luxury watches worldwide are estimated at about $30 billion this year, according to market research firm IMARC Group. They’re expected to grow to more than $37 billion by 2032, as global wealth increases and Generation Z and millennials become more interested in high-end mechanical watches.

LVMH’s jewelry and watch division posted sales of $11.8 billion in 2023, representing a 7% increase in organic growth. The luxury giant now has 10 watch brands, including TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith, along with fashion and jewelry brands such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari and Dior that also make watches.

Last month, the company named Frederic Arnault, the 29-year-old son of LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH Watches, which includes the TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith brands.

Analysts estimate sales of those three brands reached about $2 billion last year.

Frederic Arnault, who launched an array of highly popular new models at TAG Heuer, is expected to bring his focus on innovation, cutting-edge materials and creative designs to the larger brand group. Analysts say LVMH may also continue to acquire attractive brands if they become available.

In interviews with CNBC during LVMH’s Watch Week in Miami, the brands’ chief executives said 2024 is already shaping up to be stronger than 2023, when rising interest rates and fears of recession tempered demand. Executives say they are especially encouraged by the resilience of the American luxury consumer.

“It’s all about cycles, and the beauty of America is that the cycles are very short,” said Benoit de Clerck, CEO of Zenith. “We go through ups and downs and all that, but I can reassure you today Zenith is definitely on an upswing with good traction within the U.S. markets.”

Watch sales are following a similar pattern to the broader luxury market, where the wealthiest consumers remain strongest. Executives say the wealthy are less affected by rising rates and economic uncertainty, so more and more brands are catering to the “super-spenders” and VIP collectors who continue to spend on the highest quality and craftsmanship.

“The high end has been really one of the main drivers of our growth,” said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari. “I think the wealthy more than ever are eager to invest in authentic, reputable and timeless brands.”

Babin said he’s seeing rising strength at the high end throughout Bulgari’s businesses, which now include hotels, fashion and fragrances.

“We sold more high-end jewelry, more high-end watches, more high-end bags,” Babin said, showing off one of Bulgari’s coveted yellow-gold Serpenti Secret watches that retails for $350,000.

LVMH is also targeting the fastest-growing segment of luxury watches: women’s watches. While women’s watches account for only about a third of total sales, women’s interest in luxury mechanical watches has soared from more exposure on social media and a growing number of models designed for women. The rising global population of wealthy women — both self-made and inherited — is also fueling sales growth.

“The trend is toward more and more feminine and more unisex watches,” said Babin. “Women have increasing power, in terms of independence, autonomy and purchasing power. We think that will continue.”

TAG Heuer CEO Julien Tornare said LVMH’s advantage over other watch brands and groups is its relentless focus on reinvention and desirability.

“The Swiss watchmaking industry has been quite conservative to some extent,” he said. “But at LVMH, we are pushed to try new things, to move forward. I think if we want to still be appealing to [a] new generation, it’s very important to show that we will work for the future and not for the past.”

Many of the LVMH brands are mining their storied pasts for new designs and models.

Zenith launched its Chronomaster Triple Calendar, featuring a triple calendar moonphase chronograph, inspired by its rare prototype El Primero watch from 1970. The company also launched a new Chronomaster Sport in green, the hottest color for luxury watches in recent years.

De Clerck said that part of Zenith’s appeal to younger watch buyers and collectors is its price. While Zenith sells highly complicated watches, it tries to deliver value, like the Triple Calendar that sells for about $14,000 but could probably be priced “thousands more” based on the level of craftsmanship and complications required, he said.

“We have a very good proposition in terms of price versus the competition,” he said. “You get a lot of watch for the money, and we want to remain and keep that spirit.”

At the same time, many LVMH brands are moving up the price ladder, with more expensive, limited editions. Hublot, known for its bold, large watches, just launched a $250,000 limited-edition watch, called the MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System. Only 50 of the futuristic watches will be produced, and it’s expected to quickly sell out.

“We call it the art of fusion in watchmaking,” said Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe. “We are connecting the tradition of watchmaking of over 400 years, with innovation. We do that through design, through materials, new mechanics and new ways of making movements.”

The new GPU is an upgrade from the H100, the chip OpenAI used to train its most advanced large language model, GPT-4. Big companies, startups and government agencies are all vying for a limited supply of the chips.

H100 chips cost between $25,000 and $40,000, according to an estimate from Raymond James, and thousands of them working together are needed to create the biggest models in a process called “training.”

Excitement over Nvidia’s AI GPUs has supercharged the company’s stock, which is up more than 230% so far in 2023. Nvidia expects around $16 billion of revenue for its fiscal third quarter, up 170% from a year ago.

The key improvement with the H200 is that it includes 141GB of next-generation “HBM3” memory that will help the chip perform “inference,” or using a large model after it’s trained to generate text, images or predictions.

Nvidia said the H200 will generate output nearly twice as fast as the H100. That’s based on a test using Meta’s Llama 2 LLM.

The H200, which is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2024, will compete with AMD’s MI300X GPU. AMD’s chip, similar to the H200, has additional memory over its predecessors, which helps fit big models on the hardware to run inference.

Nvidia said the H200 will be compatible with the H100, meaning that AI companies who are already training with the prior model won’t need to change their server systems or software to use the new version.

Nvidia says it will be available in four-GPU or eight-GPU server configurations on the company’s HGX complete systems, as well as in a chip called GH200, which pairs the H200 GPU with an Arm-based processor.

However, the H200 may not hold the crown of the fastest Nvidia AI chip for long.

While companies like Nvidia offer many different configurations of their chips, new semiconductors often take a big step forward about every two years, when manufacturers move to a different architecture that unlocks more significant performance gains than adding memory or other smaller optimizations. Both the H100 and H200 are based on Nvidia’s Hopper architecture.

In October, Nvidia told investors that it would move from a two-year architecture cadence to a one-year release pattern due to high demand for its GPUs. The company displayed a slide suggesting it will announce and release its B100 chip, based on the forthcoming Blackwell architecture, in 2024.
