The US Bitcoin spot ETF market has carried its bearish momentum into June, recording substantial capital withdrawals during the first trading week of the month. The latest outflows come after a difficult May, as investor sentiment around Bitcoin continues to worsen amid strong macroeconomic uncertainty.

Bitcoin Spot ETFs Record 1 Green Day In 15

According to data from SoSoValue, the Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded combined net outflows of approximately $1.72 billion between June 1 and June 5, as market prices tumbled to around $60,000. The negative performance follows May’s total net outflows of $2.43 billion, marking an extended period of capital flight from the investment funds. Over its last 15 trading sessions, the Bitcoin ETFs have registered just one day of positive net flow, i.e., a moderate $3.05 million on June 4, underscoring the dominant bearish sentiment among institutional investors.

Looking at individual performance, BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for the majority of the week’s withdrawals, after registering net outflows of $1.34 billion. Meanwhile, Fidelity’s FBTC followed with $201.92 million in net redemptions, while Grayscale’s GBTC lost another $144.36 million. Other funds that experienced significant selling pressure include Invesco’s BTCO, Bitwise’s BITB, and ArkInvest/21Shares, with respective net withdrawals of $12.65 million, $15.57 million, and $49.71 million.

Meanwhile, Grayscale’s BTC, Valkyrie’s BRRR, WisdomTree’s BTCW, and Hashdex’s DEFI ended the week with no net flows. Only two investment funds attracted relevant fresh capital as Van Eck’s HODL recorded net inflows of $4.22 million, while MSBT added $35.05 million. At the time of writing, cumulative net inflows into Bitcoin Spot ETFs total $53.94 billion. Meanwhile, total net assets now stand at $75.12 billion, down 20.19% in value over the last week.

Ethereum ETFs Lose Another $168M Amid Market Turmoil

In line with their Bitcoin counterparts, the Ethereum spot ETFs also opened their June account with significant investor withdrawals. Over the last week, the funds collectively recorded net outflows of $168 million, while their combined net assets fell to $9.78 billion from $11.78 billion.

The latest figures suggest institutional investors are adopting a more cautious approach as they navigate an increasingly uncertain macroeconomic environment. At press time, Bitcoin is valued at $61,592, reflecting a modest 2.00% gain in the last day. Meanwhile, Ethereum is trading at $1,612 after rebounding from its cycle low around $1,500.

US Bitcoin Spot ETFs reported net outflows of $1.42 billion in the final week of May, extending the persistent negative trend observed throughout most of the month. The bearish performance by these investment funds aligns with Bitcoin’s price struggles, when the premier cryptocurrency failed to breach the key resistance of $82,000 around May before slipping into another correction.

Bitcoin ETFs See Persistent Red Across Second Half Of May

In analyzing the individual fund performances over the week, it is observed, in typical fashion, that selling pressure was concentrated among the largest issuers. According to data from SoSoValue, BlackRock’s IBIT led the outflows by a wide margin, with withdrawals exceeding deposits by $966.42 million.

Behind the market leader, Fidelity’s FBTC and Grayscale’s GBTC also registered significant capital flight, posting net outflows of $169.15 million and $175.09 million, respectively. Bitwise’s BITB also recorded moderate net outflows of $46.30 million, while other mid-tier funds such as Grayscale’s secondary product BTC and ARK Invest/21Shares’ ARKB saw smaller but negative flow balances in the $20–30 million range.

Meanwhile, minor net outflows of $5.59 million were observed in Valkyrie Investments’ BRRR, while Morgan Stanley posted a negligible withdrawal of around $966,650. On the other hand, several issuers, including VanEck’s HODL, Invesco’s BTCO, Franklin Templeton’s EZBC, WisdomTree’s BTCW, and Hashdex’s DEFI, recorded no net flows, indicating a pause in both buying and selling activity.

Source: SoSoValue

From a daily flow perspective, the situation appears strongly bearish, with withdrawals consistently outpacing deposits. Between May 26 and 29, the Bitcoin spot ETFs saw net outflows of $333.71 million on Tuesday, $733.43 million on Wednesday, $228.88 million on Thursday, and $125.31 million on Friday.

This pattern reflects a broader monthly weakness as only 6 of 20 trading days in May recorded positive flows, while 14 closed in the red. Notably, every trading session in the second half of the month posted outflows, culminating in a total negative flow balance of $2.43 billion, the highest monthly net outflow recorded in 2026 and the largest since November 2025.

Nevertheless, the Bitcoin Spot ETFs market remains in a strong, resilient position, with cumulative net inflows of $55.66 billion since their launch in 2024. Meanwhile, their total net assets are valued at $94.17 billion, representing 6.38% of the Bitcoin market cap.

Bitcoin Price Overview

At the time of writing, Bitcoin trades at $74,012, reflecting a slight gain of 1.07% in the past day. Meanwhile, daily trading volume has dropped by 47.55% and is valued at $18.12 billion.

They say journalists never truly clock out. But for Christian, that’s not just a metaphor, it’s a lifestyle. By day, he navigates the ever-shifting tides of the cryptocurrency market, wielding words like a seasoned editor and crafting articles that decipher the jargon for the masses. When the PC goes on hibernate mode, however, his pursuits take a more mechanical (and sometimes philosophical) turn.

Christian’s journey with the written word began long before the age of Bitcoin. In the hallowed halls of academia, he honed his craft as a feature writer for his college paper. This early love for storytelling paved the way for a successful stint as an editor at a data engineering firm, where his first-month essay win funded a months-long supply of doggie and kitty treats – a testament to his dedication to his furry companions (more on that later).

Christian then roamed the world of journalism, working at newspapers in Canada and even South Korea. He finally settled down at a local news giant in his hometown in the Philippines for a decade, becoming a total news junkie. But then, something new caught his eye: cryptocurrency. It was like a treasure hunt mixed with storytelling – right up his alley!

So, he landed a killer gig at NewsBTC, where he’s one of the go-to guys for all things crypto. He breaks down this confusing stuff into bite-sized pieces, making it easy for anyone to understand (he salutes his management team for teaching him this skill).

Think Christian’s all work and no play? Not a chance! When he’s not at his computer, you’ll find him indulging his passion for motorbikes. A true gearhead, Christian loves tinkering with his bike and savoring the joy of the open road on his 320-cc Yamaha R3. Once a speed demon who hit 120mph (a feat he vowed never to repeat), he now prefers leisurely rides along the coast, enjoying the wind in his thinning hair.

Speaking of chill, Christian’s got a crew of furry friends waiting for him at home. Two cats and a dog. He swears cats are way smarter than dogs (sorry, Grizzly), but he adores them all anyway. Apparently, watching his pets just chillin’ helps him analyze and write meticulously formatted articles even better.

Here’s the thing about this guy: He works a lot, but he keeps himself fueled by enough coffee to make it through the day – and some seriously delicious (Filipino) food. He says a delectable meal is the secret ingredient to a killer article. And after a long day of crypto crusading, he unwinds with some rum (mixed with milk) while watching slapstick movies.

Looking ahead, Christian sees a bright future with NewsBTC. He says he sees himself privileged to be part of an awesome organization, sharing his expertise and passion with a community he values, and fellow editors – and bosses – he deeply respects.

So, the next time you tread into the world of cryptocurrency, remember the man behind the words – the crypto crusader, the grease monkey, and the feline philosopher, all rolled into one.

“They have the cybersecurity element: Satellites, communications, navigation. So, the defense theme is actually a very colorful theme nowadays. It has a lot of interesting names,” the firm’s director of research said. “It really isn’t just about Lockheed Martin and some of the traditional names that you find in ITA [iShares US Aerospace & Defense ETF].”

As of Thursday’s close, the Procure Space ETF is up almost 19% since the Iran War started on Feb. 28 while the Global X Defense Tech ETF is off 8%.

Meanwhile, the more traditional iShares US Aerospace & Defense ETF is down 10% in the same period. Its website lists the top holdings as GE Aerospace, RTX and Boeing.

Murphy expects investor interest in aerospace and defense stocks to persist long after the Iran war is resolved.

“Any time you have geopolitical heat, it puts this kind of theme on the map,” said Murphy. “But it’s another big growth area because there’s so much new technology coming up and so much investment coming into this space. A lot of governments are making commitments for much more investments in the next five to ten years.”

Murphy suggests historic interest in the SpaceX initial public offering, which is largely expected in June, is fueling even more interest in the space.

“One of the things we’ve spoken about the most this year is about space exploration and space investment given we’re about to see the SpaceX IPO,” added Murphy.

SS&C Technologies‘ Paul Baiocchi is also bullish on aerospace and defense names. He predicts a monster ramp-up in defense budgets around the world will generate solid returns for the group.

“All of these things are converging for the same limited scarce resources,” the financial technology firm’s head of fund sales and strategy said in the same interview. “Near-term, medium-term [and] long-term, commodities allocations, energy infrastructure [and] electrification infrastructure all stand to benefit from the massive amount of investment that’s coming from both the public and private sectors.”

Plus, he sees artificial intelligence playing a key role.

“The bottleneck for AI might be chips, but it’s also power and transmission and the raw materials that go into construction,” Baiocchi said. “If you look at defense, that’s also part of the constrain is the availability of the rare earths.”

BSE Index Services on Monday announced the launch of BSE Housing Finance Index, a new sectoral benchmark aimed at capturing the performance of companies operating in the housing finance space.

The newly introduced index draws its constituents from the broader BSE 1000 index, specifically those classified under the housing finance segment as per basic industry categorisation.

The index has a base value of 1,000, with June 22, 2015 set as the base date. It will be reconstituted semi-annually in June and December, in line with standard index review practices.

The BSE Housing Finance Index is designed to support a wide range of investment applications. It can serve as an underlying benchmark for passive investment products such as ETFs and index funds, while also being used by portfolio managers for benchmarking PMS strategies and mutual fund schemes.

With this launch, BSE aims to provide investors with a more focused lens to track housing finance companies, enabling better participation in sector-specific growth opportunities. The index also adds to BSE’s expanding suite of indices, offering broader tools for portfolio diversification and strategy development.

Fears of a private credit crisis are rising as firms at the heart of the growing, but less liquid and less transparent, bond market face investor redemptions. That stress test has arrived just as private loans became more prevalent in the ETF market. It was a little over a year ago that the Securities and Exchange Commission approved the first ETF branded as a private credit fund.

For ETF investors, the good news it that the risks represented by the asset class are showing up in a more controlled way, as ETFs invest directly in private credit issues are still limited in how much exposure they can have to the asset class — up to, but not exceeding 35%.

Some other, older ETF products that are tied to private credit get indirect exposure only, according to Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at VettaFi, said on CNBC’s “ETF Edge. They use vehicles like business development companies and closed end funds that primarily invest in the private credit sector. While that adds liquidity compared to holding private loans directly, it is not without investor concern in the current environment.

The VanEck BDC Income ETF (BIZD), which has roughly $1.5 billion in assets and dates back to 2013, is down 13% since the start of the year. The reason is clear: among BIZD’s top holdings are publicly traded shares of some of the private credit managers in the news, including Blue Owl Capital and Ares Capital. Blue Owl shares are down over 46% this year.

The Simplify VettaFi Private Credit Strategy ETF (PCR) is down around 20% in the past year and also focused its investments in business development companies and closed end funds.

Liquidity remains the main concern for investors, and private credit is not meant for daily trading the way ETFs are, which has resulted in issues between private credit managers and investors wanting to pull out their funds. But in the ETF space, daily liquidity and trading always give investors the option to sell, though it may come at a cost.

“You can get out, you’re just going to pay or you’re going to sell at a discount to net asset value,” Rosenbluth said.

BIZD closed at a discount to its net asset value 37 times in calendar year 2025, and so far, 12 times this year.

Private credit funds, meanwhile, often restrict withdrawals during times of stress. “You’re gating because you said we can’t have a run on the bank,” Rosenbluth said.

Jeffrey Rosenberg, systematic fixed income senior portfolio manager at BlackRock, who runs a long-short strategy in an ETF wrapper, says private credit investing issues are one example of how much ETFs have changed fixed income markets. As active portfolio managers in the bond market meet more investors through ETFs, it allows them more precision in targeting specific parts of the credit market. “They’ve just completely changed how liquidity provisioning, price discovery … how the ecosystem of credit market-making functions in a modern credit market,” he said on “ETF Edge.”

Money has been on the move during the recent market volatility, according to VettaFi’s Rosenbluth, with ETF investors “taking some risk off” and moving from longer-duration bond funds into shorter-duration funds.

The biggest systemic risk in private credit markets comes from the asset-liability mismatch. “The run on the bank,” BlackRock’s Rosenberg said. But it is his view that this type of risk is less pronounced today since many private credit vehicles limit liquidity by design. That cannot eliminate risk, but can make the risks surface more gradually, Rosenberg explained, saying impact could take place over longer time horizons as companies face refinancing at higher rates.

Both Rosenbluth and Rosenberg explained that the result of this is a system that absorbs shock differently. Private credit funds may restrict redemptions and ETFs allow for continuous trading with real-time price adjustments — allowing markets to keep functioning while reflecting stress as it develops. Both approaches, they say, aim to prevent disorderly outcomes.

Bitcoin price struggles over the last week were also in its ETF market, as the Bitcoin spot ETFs posted their first net outflows in a month. Before this trading session, these investment funds had experienced a 4-week bullish streak, resulting in a combined net inflow of $2.21 billion.

Bitcoin ETFs See Red Again, While Potential New Member Awaits

According to data from SoSoValue, the combined trading activity across the 12 Bitcoin Spot ETFs resulted in a negative inflow of $296.18 million over the past week. This development represents the seventh weekly outflow of 2026, and the fifteenth since the crypto bear market commenced in October 2025. A daily analysis shows the net withdrawal performance is highly linked to consecutive outflows on Thursday and Friday, combinedly valued at over $396 million. For context, the $225.48 million outflow registered on Friday represents the market’s largest net outflow since March 3rd.

Looking at individual fund performance, BlackRock IBIT experienced the largest net redemptions valued at $158.07 million. Meanwhile, Grayscale’s GBTC, Bitwise’s BITB, and Ark/21 Shares ARKB also registered a total netflow of $169.26 million. ETFs such as Grayscale’s BTC and VanEck’s HODL also posted respective net withdrawals of $5.45 and $10.28, marking minor contributions to the general market’s negative performance. On the other hand, Fidelity’s FBTC accounted for the only recorded net inflow, valued at $46.88 million.

Other ETFs, such as Invesco’s BTCO, Valkyrie’s BRRR, Wisdom Tree’s BTCW, Franklin Templeton’s EZBC, and Hashdex’s DEFI, all experienced zero weekly net flows. At press time, the Bitcoin Spot ETF reported a cumulative total net inflow of $55.93 billion and total net assets of $84.77 billion.

Meanwhile, recent reports indicate that American banking giant Morgan Stanley has filed to launch its own Bitcoin spot ETF under the ticker MSBT. According to Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas, the proposed fund will offer the lowest fee in the market at 0.14%, just below Grayscale’s 0.15%. If approved by the SEC, MSBT will be the first Bitcoin spot ETF directly listed by a US bank. For context, Morgan Stanley ranks as a leading financial services operator in the world with an asset under management of $1.9 trillion and a market cap of $251 billion.

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce is indicating an openness to work with Wall Street on emerging exchange-traded fund products tied to cryptocurrencies and tokenization.

“We want to work with people on new products,” Peirce said during an exclusive interview this week with “ETF Edge” host Dominic Chu. “It really is a come in and talk to us about what you’re trying to do. We want to work with you toward being able to experiment to see whether the market wants your products.”

Peirce joined CNBC from the VettaFi’s Exchange 2026 conference in Las Vegas.

“I’m here because this is such an important segment of what we regulate,” she said.

When asked about tokenization of financial instruments, Peirce said interest has picked up.

“It’s not the SEC’s job to decide… how the market moves forward,” she said. “But tokenization is one of those areas that since the administration changed and since the attitude toward crypto and blockchain changed, people have come to us and they’ve said, ‘We really think tokenization has potential here.'”

Peirce also alluded to the regulation priorities as retail investor accessibility to new ETFs improves.

“We want to do it [work with issuers] in a way that respects investor protection,” Peirce said. “It’s not our job to say which products are good or bad. It is our job to work with sponsors to make sure that they’re disclosing what those products are, what the risks are [and] what they’re intended to be used for.”

Spot Bitcoin ETFs (exchange-traded funds) in the United States have posted five consecutive days of capital inflows for the first time in 2026. This good run of form comes as a relief after what has been a turbulent start to the year for BTC and the broader cryptocurrency market.

While the premier cryptocurrency still appears to be struggling in terms of price action, the demand conditions — especially in the US — seem to be improving steadily. According to the latest market data, the Bitcoin ETFs registered approximately $767.32 million in net inflows over the past week.

US Bitcoin ETFs Record $767M In The Past Week

On Friday, March 13, the US-based Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $180.33 million in total net inflows. This latest round of capital influx marked the fifth day in an inflow streak that started earlier in the week and the longest so far this year.

Recent market data shows that BlackRock’s Bitcoin Trust (with the ticker IBIT) contributed the majority (roughly $143.59 million) of the total net inflow on Friday. This was followed by the $23.24 million contribution of Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) on the day.

VanEck Bitcoin ETF (HODL), Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), and Ark 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) (adding $8.05 million, $3.09 million, and $2.36 million in value, respectively) were the only other Bitcoin ETFs that recorded any activity on Friday. Interestingly, this Friday’s performance only pales in comparison to the $250.92 in the total net inflows seen on Tuesday, March 10.

As mentioned earlier, these daily performances brought the exchange-traded funds’ weekly record to a net total of around $767.32 million. This week’s performance marks the third consecutive week of positive inflows for the US-based Bitcoin ETFs.

According to SoSoValue data, the BTC-linked investment products posted more than $568 million in total net inflows in the previous week. Meanwhile, the exchange-traded funds added more than $787 million in value in the final week of February.

Bitcoin Price Overview

While the spot Bitcoin ETFs have been seeing increased demand in recent weeks, there has not been concomitant growth in the premier cryptocurrency’s value within the same period. More specifically, the price of BTC has faced rejection twice around the $74,000 resistance level over the last two weeks.

As of this writing, the price of BTC stands at around $70,748, reflecting no significant movement in the past 24 hours. According to data from CoinGecko, the flagship cryptocurrency has jumped by nearly 5% in the past seven days.
