Dimon in his annual letter to shareholders, published Monday, noted the country’s 250th anniversary as “the perfect time to rededicate ourselves to the values that made this great nation of ours — freedom, liberty and opportunity.”

“The challenges we all face are significant. The list is long but at the top are the terrible ongoing war and violence in Ukraine, the current war in Iran and the broader hostilities in the Middle East, terrorist activity and growing geopolitical tensions, importantly with China,” Dimon said. “Even in troubled times, we have confidence that America will do what it has always done — look to the values that have defined our singular nation and sustained our leadership of the free world.”

Dimon, the longtime leader of the world’s largest bank by market cap, is among the most outspoken of U.S. corporate leaders. His annual letter offers not only a matter of record for his firm’s performance, but also sweeping perspectives on the global state of affairs.

In Monday’s letter, Dimon noted headwinds including global conflicts, persistent inflation, private market upheaval and what he called “poor bank regulations.”

Dimon said that while regulations like those put in place after the 2008 financial crisis “accomplished some good things … they also created a fragmented, slow-moving system with expensive, overlapping and excessive rules and regulations — some of which made the financial system weaker and reduced productive lending.”

He specifically cited negative consequences of capital and liquidity requirements, the current construction of the Federal Reserve’s stress test and a “badly handled” process at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Dimon also said JPMorgan’s reaction to revised proposals for Basel 3 Endgame and a global systemically important bank, or GSIB, surcharge — issued by U.S. regulators last month — were “mixed.”

“While it was good to see that the recent proposals for the Basel 3 Endgame (B3E) and GSIB attempted to reduce the increase in required capital from the 2023 proposals, there are still some aspects that are frankly nonsensical,” Dimon said.

The CEO said with the aggregate proposed surcharges of about 5%, the bank would need to hold “as much as 50% more capital across the vast majority of loans to U.S. consumers and businesses when compared with a large non-GSIB bank for the same set of loans.”

“Frankly, it’s not right, and it’s un-American,” he said.

On trade and geopolitics

Dimon identified geopolitical tensions as the primary risk facing his bank, namely the wars in Ukraine and Iran and their impacts on commodities and global markets — deeming war “the realm of uncertainty.”

“The outcome of current geopolitical events may very well be the defining factor in how the future global economic order unfolds,” he said. “Then again, it may not.”

He also cited a “realignment of economic relations in the world” brought on by U.S. trade policy. U.S. President Donald Trump has made tariffs a signature policy of his second term in office, introducing higher duties on dozens of trade partners and import categories.

“The trade battles are clearly not over, and it should be expected that many nations are analyzing how and with whom they should create trade arrangements,” Dimon said. “While some of this is necessary for national security and resiliency, which are paramount, it is hard to figure out what the long-term effects will be.”

On private markets

Dimon also spoke to recent upheaval in the private markets, as fears around loans made to software firms spur massive redemption requests at private credit funds.

“By and large, private credit does not tend to have great transparency or rigorous valuation ‘marks’ of their loans — this increases the chance that people will sell if they think the environment will get worse — even if actual realized losses barely change,” Dimon said.

The executive added that actual losses are already higher than they should be relative to the environment.

“However this plays out, it should be expected that at some point insurance regulators will insist on more rigorous ratings or markdowns, which will likely lead to demands for more capital,” he said.

On AI

Dimon reiterated Monday that the pace of AI adoption is unlike any technology that came before it. He said while its implementation will be “transformational,” it remains to be seen how the AI revolution will unfold.

“Overall, the investment in AI is not a speculative bubble; rather, it will deliver significant benefits. However, at this time, we cannot predict the ultimate winners and losers in AI- related industries,” Dimon said.

“We will not put our heads in the sand. We will deploy AI, as we deploy all technology, to do a better job for our customers (and employees),” he wrote.

JPMorgan has been at the forefront of Wall Street firms introducing AI at every level of its business. Last year, JPMorgan Chief Analytics Officer Derek Waldron gave CNBC an early demonstration into how it’s using agentic AI to speed up work and improve results for customers and shareholders.

In February, Dimon said AI was reshaping JPMorgan’s workforce and that the bank had “huge redeployment plans” for employees.

“We have focused on some of the ‘known and predictable’ and some of the ‘known unknown’ events,” he said. “But huge technological shifts like AI always have second- and third-order effects as well that can deeply impact society. … We should be monitoring for this kind of transformation, too.”

— CNBC’s Leslie Picker and Ritika Shah contributed to this report.

A federal judge in San Francisco granted Anthropic’s request for a preliminary injunction in its lawsuit against the Trump administration.

Judge Rita Lin issued the ruling on Thursday, two days after lawyers for the artificial intelligence startup and the U.S. government appeared in court for a hearing. Anthropic sued the administration to try to reverse its blacklisting by the Pentagon and President Donald Trump’s directive banning federal agencies from using its Claude models.

Anthropic sought the injunction to pause those actions and prevent further monetary and reputational harm as the case unfolds. The order bars the Trump administration from implementing, applying or enforcing the president’s directive, and hampers the Pentagon’s efforts to designate Anthropic as a threat to U.S. national security.

“Punishing Anthropic for bringing public scrutiny to the government’s contracting position is classic illegal First Amendment retaliation,” Lin wrote in the order. A final verdict in the case could still be months away.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Lin pressed the government’s lawyers about why Anthropic was blacklisted. Her language in Thursday’s order was even sharper.

“Nothing in the governing statute supports the Orwellian notion that an American company may be branded a potential adversary and saboteur of the U.S. for expressing disagreement with the government,” she wrote.

Following the ruling, Anthropic said it’s “grateful to the court for moving swiftly.”

“While this case was necessary to protect Anthropic, our customers, and our partners, our focus remains on working productively with the government to ensure all Americans benefit from safe, reliable AI,” the company said in a statement.

Anthropic’s suit earlier this month followed a dramatic couple weeks in Washington D.C., between the Department of Defense and one of the most valuable private companies in the world.

In a post on X in late February, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared Anthropic a so-called supply chain risk, meaning that use of the company’s technology purportedly threatens U.S. national security. In early March, the DOD officially notified Anthropic about the designation via a letter.

Anthropic is the first American company to publicly be named a supply chain risk, as the designation has historically been reserved for foreign adversaries. The label requires Defense contractors, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Palantir, to certify that they do not use Claude in their work with the military.

The Trump administration relied on two distinct designations – 10 U.S.C. § 3252 and 41 U.S.C. § 4713 – to justify the action, and they have to be challenged in two separate courts. Because of that, Anthropic has filed another lawsuit for a formal review of the Defense Department’s determination in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington.

Shortly before Hegseth declared Anthropic a supply chain risk, President Donald Trump wrote a Truth Social post ordering federal agencies to “immediately cease” all use of Anthropic’s technology. He said there would be a six-month phase-out period for agencies like the DOD.

“WE will decide the fate of our Country — NOT some out-of-control, Radical Left AI company run by people who have no idea what the real World is all about,” Trump wrote.

The Trump administration’s actions surprised many officials in Washington who had come to admire and rely on Anthropic’s technology. The company was the first to deploy its models across the DOD’s classified networks, and it was championed for its ability to integrate with existing Defense contractors like Palantir.

Anthropic signed a $200 million contract with the Pentagon in July, but as the company began negotiating Claude’s deployment on the DOD’s GenAI.mil AI platform in September, talks stalled.

The DOD wanted Anthropic to grant the Pentagon unfettered access to its models across all lawful purposes, while Anthropic wanted assurance that its technology would not be used for fully autonomous weapons or domestic mass surveillance.

The two failed to reach an agreement, and now, the dispute will be settled in court.

“Everyone, including Anthropic, agrees that the Department of [Defense] is free to stop using Claude and look for a more permissive AI vendor,” Lin said during the hearing Tuesday. “I don’t see that as being what this case is about. I see the question in this case as being a very different one, which is whether the government violated the law.

The move comes a week after Delta CEO Ed Bastian blasted Congress during an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box” for failing to authorize pay for Transportation Security Administration agents during the shutdown of the agency that includes TSA.

“Due to the impact on resources from the longstanding government shutdown, Delta will temporarily suspend specialty services to members of Congress flying Delta,” Delta said in a statement to CNBC.

“Next to safety, Delta’s No. 1 priority is taking care of our people and customers, which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment,” the airline said.

The move comes as airports around the U.S., including major hubs in cities such as Atlanta, where Delta is based, are seeing extra-long security lines as a result of elevated absences by TSA agents, who are set to miss their second full paycheck this week.

A multibillion-dollar crypto asset manager cites several reasons for the bitcoin plunge, but he’s listing “the four-year cycle” as the No. 1 downward catalyst.

According to Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise Asset Management, it’s a phenomenon that’s happened three other times in the crypto market.

“People are looking for one thing to blame for the current retracement in bitcoin. But there is not any one thing to blame,” he told “ETF Edge” on Monday.

Hougan contends investors have been favoring other hot investments including gold and artificial intelligence stocks over cryptocurrencies, too.

“There is some quantum risk. There is fear of [Fed nominee] Kevin Warsh,” he said. “In bear markets, all these things are amplified.”

When he was on “ETF Edge” last November, bitcoin had fallen below the $90,000 mark for the first time since April. Its record high of $126,279 was hit in October.

Crypto ETF disruption?

But bitcoin weakness shouldn’t ultimately disrupt the rise of exchange-traded funds specializing in crypto, according to Hougan — who thinks a “self-fulfilling prophecy” is dominating the crypto market right now.

“There is good news underneath the surface. It’s just slow to materialize. So, I don’t think this sort of financialization of bitcoin fundamentally changes the scarcity argument,” Hougan said. “It may change some intraday movements or short-term trading dynamics, but it doesn’t change the sort of fundamental fact there are only 21 million bitcoin. All that derivative demand has to pass through eventually to the spot market.”

The fund is down about 57% since the launch. So far this year, the cryptocurrency is off more than 30%.

Meanwhile, bitcoin tumbled below $61,000 last Thursday — its lowest level in roughly 16 months.

Hamas said Monday it has accepted a new proposal from Arab mediators for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that would still need Israel’s approval, as Gaza’s Health Ministry said the Palestinian death toll from 22 months of war has passed 62,000.

U.S. President Donald Trump meanwhile appeared to cast doubt on the long-running negotiations. “We will only see the return of the remaining hostages when Hamas is confronted and destroyed!!! The sooner this takes place, the better the chances of success will be,” he posted on his Truth Social site.

Israel announced plans to reoccupy Gaza City and other heavy populated areas after the ceasefire talks appeared to have broken down last month, raising the possibility of a worsening of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, which experts say is sliding into famine.

Plans to expand the offensive, which are in part aimed at pressuring Hamas, have sparked international outrage and infuriated many Israelis who fear for the remaining hostages taken in the Oct. 7 attack that started the war. Hundreds of thousands took part in mass protests on Sunday calling for their return.

‘Extensive efforts’ to revive talks

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said mediators are “exerting extensive efforts” to revive a U.S. proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, during which some hostages would be released and the sides would negotiate a lasting ceasefire and the return of the rest.

He spoke during a visit to Egypt’s Rafah crossing with Gaza, which has not functioned since Israel seized the Palestinian side in May 2024. He was accompanied by Mohammad Mustafa, the prime minister of the Palestinian Authority, which has been largely sidelined since the war began.

Abdelatty said Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani had joined the talks, which include senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, who arrived in Cairo last week. He said they are open to other ideas, including for a comprehensive deal that would release all the hostages at once.

Bassem Naim, a senior Hamas official, later told The Associated Press that the militant group had accepted the proposal introduced by the mediators, without elaborating.

An Egyptian official, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive talks, said the proposal includes changes to Israel’s pullback of its forces and guarantees for negotiations on a lasting ceasefire during the initial truce. The official said it is almost identical to an earlier proposal accepted by Israel, which has not yet joined the latest talks.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the war until all the hostages are returned and Hamas has been disarmed, and to maintain lasting security control over Gaza. Hamas has said it will only release the remaining hostages in exchange for a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal.

Palestinian death toll surpasses 62,000

Hamas-led militants abducted 251 people and killed around 1,200, mostly civilians, in the attack that ignited the war. Fifty hostages are still inside Gaza, around 20 of them believed by Israel to be alive, after most of the rest were released in ceasefires or other deals.

The Gaza Health Ministry said the Palestinian death toll from the war had climbed to 62,004, with another 156,230 people wounded. It does not say how many were civilians or combatants, but says women and children make up around half the dead.

The ministry is part of the Hamas-run government and staffed by medical professionals. The U.N. and many independent experts consider its figures to be the most reliable estimate of wartime casualties. Israel disputes its toll but has not provided its own.

The ministry said 1,965 people have been killed while seeking humanitarian aid since May, either in the chaos around U.N. convoys or while heading to sites operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, an Israeli-backed American contractor.

Witnesses, health officials and the U.N. human rights office say Israeli forces have repeatedly fired toward crowds of people seeking aid. Israel says it has only fired warning shots at people who approached its forces. GHF says its armed contractors have only used pepper spray or fired into the air on rare occasions to prevent deadly crowding.

More deaths linked to malnutrition

Experts have warned that Israel’s ongoing offensive is pushing Gaza toward famine, even after it eased a complete 2 1/2-month blockade on the territory in May. The Gaza Health Ministry said Monday that five more people, including two children, died of malnutrition-related causes.

It says at least 112 children have died of malnutrition-related causes since the war began, and 151 adults have died since the ministry started tracking adult malnutrition deaths in June.

Amnesty International on Monday accused Israel of “carrying out a deliberate campaign of starvation.”

Israel has rejected such allegations, saying it allows in enough food and accusing the U.N. of failing to promptly deliver it. U.N. agencies say they are hindered by Israeli restrictions and the breakdown of law and order in the territory, around three-quarters of which is now controlled by Israel.

“As digital transformation and public cloud adoption remain top priorities, we believe MongoDB is well positioned to capitalize on growth from net new workloads and re-platforming of legacy applications,” wrote Goldman Sachs analyst Kash Rangan in a note to clients.

The database software maker’s net loss narrowed from a year ago to $37.6 million, or a loss of 46 cents per share. That’s down from a net loss of $80.6 million, or a loss of $1.10 per share last year.

The company also boosted its share buyback plan by $800 million to $1 billion.

While the current military conflict between Israel and Hamas hasn’t “materially impacted” business, “the continuation of the war and any escalation or expansion of the war could have a negative impact on both global and regional conditions and may adversely affect our business, financial condition, and results of operations,” eToro wrote in a section of the filing titled “Risks related to our operations in Israel.”

The company, which lets users trade stocks, commodities and cryptocurrencies, was founded in 2007 by brothers Yoni and Ronen Assia and David Ring, and is based in Bnei Brak, near Tel Aviv.

In its prospectus, eToro referenced the attacks of Oct. 7, 2023, by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Israel. In the year and a half since then, the two sides have mostly been at war in the Gaza Strip, where tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed and much of the area has been made uninhabitable.

Tensions have also escalated with other designated militant groups in the region, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.

“It is possible that these hostilities will escalate in the future into a greater regional conflict, and that additional terrorist organizations and, possibly, countries, will actively join the hostilities,” eToro wrote, adding that the magnitude of the conflict is “difficult to predict.”

Yoni Assia, eToro’s CEO, told CNBC in an interview that the company’s business is global, with operations worldwide. Regarding the challenges of being in Israel, Yoni Assia said “everything is in the risk factors.”

“We do hope to see more peaceful times,” he said. “It’s better for everyone and for our employees from a business point of view.”

EToro, which competes with Robinhood, had its Nasdaq debut on Wednesday. The stock popped 29% a day after eToro priced shares above the expected range. At the close of trading, the company was valued at about $5.4 billion.

EToro’s IPO comes as several tech companies get set to test the public markets following an extended drought dating back to the soaring inflation of 2022.

After the attacks of Oct.7, thousands of Israelis were called up for extended active reserve duty that caused some disruption to the country’s flourishing tech community. Ongoing obligations could “impact our competitive position and cause our sales to decrease,” eToro wrote.

Israel has also faced some backlash for its military campaign in Gaza.

The eToro filing cited International Criminal Court warrants for the arrests of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former minister of defense, and calls for boycotts from activist groups as potential roadblocks for the business.

The country has also been hit with credit downgrades from Fitch, Moody’s and S&P Global that could harm eToro’s operations, the filing said.

Etoro said that intensified cyberattacks since 2023, and potential damages from armed attacks, could raise costs or incapacitate its workforce due to safety concerns.

The company also highlighted tax law differences between the U.S. and Israel and the location of its executives as a potential risk factor.

“It may be difficult to enforce a U.S. judgment against us, our officers and directors in Israel or the United States, or to assert U.S. securities laws claims in Israel or serve process on our officers and directors,” eToro wrote.

The stock slid about 4% in extended trading.

Here’s what the company reported in comparison with LSEG consensus:

Earnings per share: 31 cents adjusted vs. 50 cents expected

Revenue: $4.60 billion vs. $5.42 billion expected

While the latest numbers were below analysts’ estimates, they were in line with early results Super Micro disclosed last week. The company said at the time that revenue in the fiscal third quarter would be between $4.5 billion and $4.6 billion, and that earnings per share would fall in the range between 29 cents and 31 cents. The stock plummeted 12% following that release.

But Super Micro on Tuesday gave investors their first glimpse into fourth-quarter results, and those are also below expectations. Super Micro called for 40 cents to 50 cents in adjusted earnings per share on $5.6 billion to $6.4 billion in revenue. Analysts polled by LSEG had been looking for 69 cents in adjusted earnings per share on $6.82 billion in revenue.

The macroeconomic environment is likely to weigh on performance, the company said, following President Donald Trump’s announcement in early April of sweeping new tariffs on imported goods.

During the fiscal third quarter, Super Micro saw “a customer waiting and evaluating AI platforms between the current Hopper and the upcoming Blackwell GPUs, leading to a delayed commitment,” CEO Charles Liang said on a conference call with analysts. He said he expects the commitment to come in the June and September quarters.

Liang said the company is not giving fiscal 2026 guidance because of tariff-related uncertainty.

Super Micro’s revenue grew 19% year over year during the quarter, which ended on March 31. Net income of 17 cents per share was down from 66 cents in the same quarter a year ago.

It has been a treacherous past year for Super Micro. Prior to that, the stock had been on a tear due to the company’s position in the artificial intelligence market, selling servers packed with Nvidia’s graphics processing units.

Over the summer, short seller Hindenburg Research issued a report on Super Micro, claiming it had found proof of “accounting manipulation.” In October, Ernst & Young resigned as the company’s auditor after raising concerns about internal control over financial reporting and other matters.

An independent special committee investigated but “did not raise any substantial concerns about the integrity of Super Micro’s senior management or Audit Committee, or their commitment to ensuring that the Company’s financial statements are materially accurate,” according to a statement.

In February, Super Micro filed an annual report for its 2024 fiscal year, which ended on June 30, helping to keep the stock from being delisted on Nasdaq. Staff from the exchange had informed Super Micro that the company was back in compliance with filing requirements, according to a statement.

As of Tuesday’s closing bell, Super Micro had gained 9% so far in 2025, while the S&P 500 index had declined 4%.

Vedanta has extended the deadline of the demerger of its businesses from March 31, 2025 to September 30, 2025 citing pending approvals from government authorities and National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

The company announced about the development late on Friday. Shares of Vedanta had ended at Rs 462.90 on the NSE, down by Rs 9.45 or 2%.

The mining conglomerate is looking to demerge its businesses – aluminium, oil & gas, power and steel- as separate entities. At present, these businesses are subsumed within Vedanta Ltd, which is an Indian arm of UK-based Vedanta Resources.

Post the demerger, every Vedanta shareholder – both retail and institutional – will receive one new share in each of the newly demerged companies.

There will be no change in the overall shareholding structure, the letter said.

Chairman Anil Agarwal in his recently written letter to the shareholders, said that investments in the company at the start of the past 5-year period would have yielded returns of 4.7 times. The returns are a combination of capital appreciation and cash dividends, he added, claiming that metals & mining company has delivered a dividend yield of 81% during this period which is highest amongst all its peers. “Anyone who had invested in Vedanta at the start of the past five-year period would have seen their investments multiplying over 4.7 times to date, both through capital appreciation and cash dividends returned,” the letter read.”Vedanta’s unique and irreplaceable assets, sector-leading position, strong global management, and financial discipline will ensure a stronger growth trajectory and higher returns going forward. The tremendous potential value unlock that the demerger will bring has also been captured well by many top
brokerages and leading analysts,” the letter said.

In a recent vote of shareholders, secured and unsecured creditors, 99.5% of shareholders and creditors voted in favour of our demerger.

Agarwal said that he envisions each of the four newly demerged companies to potentially grow into a $100 billion company.

The Vedanta chairman also said that the company is currently contributing close to 1.4% of India’s GDP.

Vedanta, which was listed on Indian exchanges in 1998, will hold over 63.4% of Hindustan Zinc (HZL).

HZL is an integrated producer of Zinc and silver.

In an optimistic post, market expert and enthusiast, Javon Marks has expressed his confidence about a possible bullish breakout, pointing to a robust upside momentum in the near term. The expert points to several market indications and technical setups that show promising signals, with ETH overcoming recent resistance levels that could set the stage for a price spike.

According to the expert, Ethereum seems to be getting close to another significant breakout point, and a bullish break is likely to take place due to a prior bull pattern confirmation and breakout, implying a similar price movement for the altcoin to past positive trends.

As a result, Javon Marks believes that this key breakout will trigger a price growth to the $4,080 level, which is more than 63% away from its current value movement. In addition, the analyst claims that development might turn out to be the start of a much bigger upside in the upcoming weeks.

Javon Marks’ anticipated breakout coincides with the growing sentiment and optimism toward the altcoin, signifying possible renewed momentum. Mark’s prediction also aligns with Ash Crypto, another market analyst and trader, who has forecasted that ETH could hit a new all-time high in 2025.

After examining Ethereum’s recent price action, Ash Crypto noted that the altcoin has reached its major trendline support capable of igniting a notable price surge. This is due to the fact that the digital asset witnessed a hard pump the last 3 times it retested the major trendline.

The first time ETH retested the trendline in 2022, it surged by over 123% in the period of 3 months, the second time caused about 107% increase in 7 months, and the last, which was in 2023 triggered an over 158% upswing in about 6 months. Thus should the digital asset replicate this move, Ash Crypto is confident that it could witness a 100% rally from its present value to a new all-time high in 2025.

ETH Preparing For A Rebound?

Following a few days of downside movement, ETH investors are beginning to show their presence in the market, pushing the altcoin toward a possible rebound. Ethereum is presently trading at $2,460, demonstrating a brief upward movement of about 0.60% daily increase, slowly approaching the $2,500 price level.

Given the heightened interest in ETH, the asset could continue to print more gains as bulls have formed strong support at the $2,450 mark. Data from CoinMarkCap reveals that the trading volume of ETH has surged by more than 20% in the past day.
