Asian tech stocks surged Monday, as investors cheer news that Iran and the U.S. have reached a deal to end the Middle East conflict.

Japanese tech investor SoftBank was the best performer among major tech stocks in Asia, rising over 12%. Tokyo Electron and Advantest added 9.19% and 7.69% respectively.

Memory chip behemoths and heavyweights on South Korea’s Kospi Index, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix gained 4.65% and 6.42%, respectively.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, or TSMC rose 2.16%, while Hon Hai Precision, also known as Foxconn, added 2.5%.

Softbank, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have seen huge overall gains in recent weeks. Last month, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix each crossed $1 trillion market valuation, while SoftBank recently became the most valuable company in Japan.

The moves follow a risk-on sentiment amid expectations that the Middle East conflict could end soon, as the U.S. and Iran have reached a peace deal.

According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday, both Iran and the U.S. have agreed to a deal, with both sides declaring immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland, he said. Pakistan has served as a mediator between the two countries.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz without a toll system and the U.S. will also end the naval blockade of Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump said In a Truth Social post. “Ships of the World, start your engines,” Trump said. Let the oil flow!”

The broader tech space has done fairly well, according to Ecaterina Bigos, BNP Paribas Asset Management’s chief investment officer of core investments Asia ex Japan.

“Because again, not to forget that investors are trying to rebalance some parts of the portfolios, but they still want to stay in that race of AI,” she told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Monday.

Broader Asia markets were also higher Monday, amid signs of the end of the Middle East conflict.

The slump has been exacerbated by a risk-off sentiment amid expectations that interest rates in the U.S. could stay higher for longer, following last week’s U.S. labor data that sharply beat estimates.

“We are pushing the final two rate cuts in our Fed forecast back to June and December of 2027. The labor market has been stronger than we anticipated,” Goldman Sachs said in a note on Friday.

The share price declines follow a recent rally in Asia tech stocks that was supported by investor optimism on AI demand. Last month, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix each crossed $1 trillion market valuation, while SoftBank recently became the most valuable company in Japan.

The sell-off in tech names was triggered after Broadcom’s revenue for fiscal second quarter missed market estimates last week, plunging its shares and causing a cascading impact on the tech sector.

The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) lost over 9% Friday; Softbank’s British chip firm Arm Holdings had dropped nearly 13%, while Micron Technology declined more than 13%.

“The tech-led rout erased approximately $1.8 trillion in S&P 500 market cap,” according to a UOB note on Monday.

UOB, however, said that tech and software companies will remain in focus with “the debut of a space exploration/AI/tech company on the Nasdaq on Fri (12 Jun), in what may be the largest IPO ever.”

Broader Asia markets were also lower Monday, after a fresh escalation in the Iran war signals that the conflict is far from over.

CNBC’s Mike Sheen contributed to this report.

An avalanche of selling on Friday crushed the stock market, a dramatic reversal from record highs earlier in the week. Chip stocks nosedived in the final trading session of last week. There were pockets of weakness in tech ever since Club name Broadcom disappointed on earnings. However, the sell-off on Friday was next-level after a strong jobs report dashed hopes of a Federal Reserve interest rate cut and sent the 10-year bond yield soaring above 4.5%. The S & P 500 and Nasdaq plunged 2.6% and 4.2%, respectively, on Friday, making Tuesday’s record-high closes seem like a distant memory. The massive rotation out of tech into lagging sectors like health care and financials did produce some winners for us. For the week, Eli Lilly rose 2.4%, and Wells Fargo gained 5.7%. When it was all said and done, the weekly losses in the S & P 500 and Nasdaq mirrored Friday’s declines. The S & P 500 snapped a nine-week winning streak. Here is a closer look at what drove the market action last week, starting with the sky-high earnings expectations for Broadcom and two other Club tech names that went unmet. Hot stocks into earnings It started on Wednesday, when Palo Alto Networks shares sank despite delivering a strong beat-and-raise quarter the prior evening. The stock came into the print hot after setting a new record high on Monday. When management reiterated its long-term financial outlook, instead of raising it, the sellers drove the stock down by 5.6%. It didn’t change our view on Palo Alto. We love that management finally showed Wall Street that AI can accelerate its business. That is huge considering how badly cyber stocks had sold off earlier in the year on what Jim Cramer said all along were unfounded disruption concerns. For the week, Palo Alto fell 3.4%. A similar story played out when CrowdStrike reported better-than-expected earnings and forward guidance on Wednesday evening. The stock was down more than 10% during Thursday’s session but closed down less than 4%. Like Palo Alto, CrowdStrike’s weakness can be pinned on falling short of lofty expectations amid near-record-high shares. We were not discouraged . CrowdStrike also showed us that AI is a boon to business. CEO George Kurtz said so himself on the conference call. Unfortunately, CrowdStrike sold off further on Friday, losing more than 8% for the week. But the biggest downer was Broadcom, whose stock fell 12.6% after earnings on Thursday. The price action here might be a little more understandable because it wasn’t just a failure to issue even stronger guidance; it was also a lower-than-expected revenue number in the reported quarter. The AI-related parts of its business were strong. We were also encouraged by management’s forecasting of continued AI semiconductor revenue growth in fiscal 2028. That was not nearly enough to save the stock. Selling continued on Friday, and Broadcom was our worst stock of the week, down 13.7%. The weekly losses in Intel, our newest chip stock, were neck-and-neck with Broadcom. Intel lost 13.5% on the week. We started a position on Wednesday and bought more shares into the decline on Friday. We got into Intel because of its strong central processing unit (CPU) business, which is well-positioned for the agentic AI era. In data center server racks, the ratio of CPUs to GPUs is narrowing. GPUs are graphics processing units, with Nvidia dominating the market. Kingmaker Nvidia Nvidia was down a much more modest 2.9% for the week. At the influential Computex conference in Taiwan on Monday, CEO Jensen Huang announced that Nvidia is entering the personal computer market, with chips based on Arm Holdings’ architecture. Shares of Arm , which is also a Club name, soared 15.7% on the news. However, it was not immune to the selling in chip stocks. Arm shares lost 3% on the week. Arm has been an incredible position for us; shares are still up 213% year to date. There was one big chip-stock winner amid all the carnage. Shares of Marvell Technology gained more than 28% last week. On Tuesday, Jensen predicted that Marvell would be the “next trillion-dollar company.” Before those comments, which sent the stock rocketing higher, Marvell had a market cap of nearly $200 billion. Jim said the sharp rally in Marvell shares was concerning. “These are big moves, and they’re not based on anything other than one person saying it.” Still, Jim remains bullish on Marvell, which is not a Club stock. IPOs and stock sales The other big story of the week, which will carry into next week and beyond, is the deluge of stock expected to hit the market from three massive IPOs. The first one is SpaceX, which is set to start trading this coming Friday. Elon Musk’s satellite, rocket, and AI company disclosed plans last Wednesday to sell 555.6 million shares at a fixed price of $135 each, raising roughly $75 billion at a $1.8 trillion market value. SpaceX is just one of several high-profile IPOs. Anthropic, known for its family of large language models called Claude, confidentially filed its IPO prospectus on Monday. The deal could create a historic share sale for investors ready to jump into AI, as Anthropic recently closed a funding round that valued the startup at $965 billion. The news put Anthropic ahead of rival OpenAI, which is readying plans for a public market listing. The startup was recently valued at a $852 billion post-money. Companies aren’t just raising capital through IPOs. Last week, Alphabet announced plans to sell $85 billion in stock to secure more funding for its AI buildout. Shares of the Google parent fell almost 4% Tuesday on the news and lost 3% on the week. Investors don’t typically like it when companies sell stock to fund investments because it can dilute their existing stakes. The move raised questions about whether other megacaps will do the same. Club stock Meta Platforms sank on Friday after the Financial Times reported that the company could potentially raise tens of billions of dollars in a stock offering to help fund its AI push. Meta lost more than 6% for the week. Jim issued a warning about all these deals, saying that a massive increase in stock supply could create a near-term headwind for the market. The string of big tech IPOs and stock sales could prompt investors to sell existing holdings to raise cash and buy shares elsewhere. “Bull markets can be killed by business conditions or interest rates or geopolitical turmoil, but the thing that most easily leads them to the slaughterhouse is an excess of new supply,” he said during “Mad Money” on Wednesday. “Like any market, when supply outstrips demand, prices go right down.” Jim continued, “I get concerned that stock supply will overwhelm investor demand. Right now, looking at the calendar, I don’t know how we are going to afford all of these deals without taking the market lower. It’s too much capital at once.” (See here for a full list of the stocks in Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust.)
CNBC’s Jim Cramer said next week could bring key answers for technology stocks after a blockbuster quarter from Dell Technologies added to the enthusiasm around the data center trade.

“When we look back, I wonder if we’ll say this was that moment when Dell simply took over the computer space” the “Mad Money” host said Friday, calling the company’s latest earnings one of the biggest “blowouts” he can recall.

Tech has dominated the market this year, particularly companies tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure. But he said that one notable laggard has emerged: Nvidia.

That could begin to change next week when CEO Jensen Huang delivers a keynote at Computex in Taiwan. Cramer said the event has historically been a “stake in the ground moment” for Nvidia and could include new announcements, particularly about PCs. Executives from other key tech players such as Arm Holdings, Marvell Technology, Intel and Qualcomm will also be at Computex.

The CNBC Investing Club on Wednesday held its May Monthly Meeting, featuring Jim Cramer and Jeff Marks, director of portfolio analysis, covering all 33 stocks in the portfolio. Jim offered his unvarnished takes on the stocks and spotlighted his four favorite names for new Club members to buy. Jeff also provided an in-depth look at the two newest positions and why we initiated positions. One theme Jim emphasized was the importance of diversification, even in moments where one dominant theme drives the market. Right now, artificial intelligence is winning the day. We have plenty of AI winners. But as long-term investors, our discipline requires us to own other stocks too. Now, let’s get into what Jim and Jeff had to say. The four stocks that Jim recommended new Club members buy are marked in bold. Big tech winners Alphabet : We were wrong to sell it last spring. We were right to buy it back, lured by the powerful combination of Google Search, Gemini, Google Cloud, YouTube, and the robotaxi service Waymo. For new members, Google is Jim’s favorite to buy right now. Amazon : This is another one with a remarkable collection of businesses. From cloud unit Amazon Web Services and its custom silicon chips to the Prime membership program and the advertising business, these are all worth more than what the current stock price indicates. Some investors may be worried about its massive AI spending, but the profits should start flowing as soon as next year. Apple : The stock has experienced a sudden run on optimism around its AI offerings. Many investors were worried after Apple’s delayed AI rollout, but we’re glad it didn’t end up putting out a second-rate product. Apple focuses on being the best, not the first. Let’s hope we get a long-awaited AI-infused Siri at the company’s annual developer conference on June 8 . Nvidia : The AI chip giant finds itself where Apple was over a decade ago, and it should follow in the iPhone maker’s footsteps by embarking on a massive buyback program paired with consistent, large dividend increases. Nvidia’s best buy right now is its own stock. Big tech laggards Meta Platforms : CEO Mark Zuckerberg is known for not tolerating underperformance, but that’s exactly what this stock has delivered lately. We’re afraid to sell it, only for Meta to deliver a breakthrough on AI shortly after we do. So, we’re keeping it. Microsoft : A similar debate here. We can all see there are real issues here, and it is inconceivable that CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood do not see them as well. We’re giving them another quarter to show something that improves their prospects in the age of AI. We’ve owned this one for almost a decade and don’t want to give back any more of that gain. Saving grace AI plays Arm Holdings : Our second newest name, after FedEx, has been a rocket ship since we bought the chipmaker last month. Concerns about securing enough manufacturing capacity from TSMC haven’t vanished. It’s just that the zest for anything data center-related has made the question not matter for the stock. We took more profits on Tuesday. Broadcom : This one has stalled out recently, perhaps due to concerns that Marvell is a real threat in the custom AI chip business and a lack of new customer announcements. But we cannot forget the strength of its networking portfolio and the steady hand of CEO Hack Tan. We’re happy to wait out the sellers here because Broadcom remains at the heart of the data center. Eaton : This is a great example of a company doing the best to ease power concerns caused by the data center buildout. Eaton makes cooling and electrical equipment that makes the data center run smoothly and without interruption. GE Vernova : Another great pick to play AI’s insatiable appetite for energy. GE Vernova is a winner because it’s the principal builder of natural gas turbines that provide power to data centers. Corning : As data center operators wean themselves off of slow copper connections and onto fiber, this stock is our biggest winner. Corning is a fabulous, treasured American company and a tremendous name to own, as it keeps getting rediscovered by the analyst community. Qnity : Spun off from DuPont in the fall, Qnity is crushing it because of the AI chip boom. We’ve taken some profits, but we still like it, especially considering the stock remains under the radar on Wall Street. When more tech-focused analysts start covering it instead of chemical specialists, we could see that next leg of upside. Tech outside the data center CrowdStrike : It took gumption to stick with cybersecurity stocks during the “AI is eating software” sell-off earlier this year. We ignored the negatives here, and we’ve been rewarded with shares racing back to all-time highs. The small pullback on Wednesday, following peer ZScaler’s disappointing outlook, isn’t cause for concern . Palo Alto Networks : The long-term importance of cybersecurity isn’t fading. So for now, we’re comfortable holding a second cyber stock in Palo Alto. Both CrowdStrike and Palo Alto report earnings next week. Salesforce : The toughest tech stock we own reports earnings after Wednesday’s close. The debate: If it’s going to take a while to realize the AI implications, why not just sell it, and if we really want to, we can just buy it back? We’ll have a better idea of what to do when we get the latest quarterly numbers. The diversifiers The goal of the Club is to run a diversified portfolio that is durable and works over the long term. That means we can’t own just data center and AI plays. We also must recognize that not everything goes up at once. Goldman Sachs : This is a business that typically operates in sales and trading but excels in the far more lucrative IPO and M & A markets. It wouldn’t be surprising if the nearly $1,000 stock could rally 25% from here by the fall. That’s how many big public offerings and mergers are about to happen. This is another stock that Jim said new members can consider buying. Wells Fargo : It might be time to say goodbye if the bank reports another bad quarter. Its last earnings release was so disappointing that we downgraded the stock. It’s perplexing because CEO Charlie Scharf has done tremendous work. Capital One : It’s hard not to be disappointed in this bank after its top and bottom line misses in late April, and another subpar quarter before that. CEO Richard Fairbank is an exceptional leader, but Capital One hasn’t yet rationalized the Discover business it acquired last year as we hoped. It’s a cheap stock, and we’re willing to be a little more patient with this one compared with Wells. Eli Lilly : We’ve owned this one for years, and it’s done well by us. Its next-generation injectable retatrutide is poised to be the real game-breaker, the one that allows Lilly to pull away from its main rival, Novo Nordisk , for good. Cardinal Health : No getting around the fact that there’s been a harsh and destructive rotation away from medical device and ancillary health-care names. The reaction to last month’s earnings was excessive for a company of Cardinal’s quality. This is a stock worth battling. Johnson & Johnson : Another victim of the market’s disdain for health care. But management has an exciting portfolio and pipeline of new drugs and medical technology products to accelerate growth in the coming years. Plus, it has adopted a stronger legal strategy to fend off talc lawsuits and refocus investors on business fundamentals. J & J said its new once-daily psoriasis pill could be one of its biggest drugs ever. Home Depot : This has been our main bet on falling mortgage rates and a major pickup in housing activity. That, unfortunately, hasn’t materialized despite the Federal Reserve’s rate cuts in recent years. But we don’t want to take this hedge off because we never know when that catalyst will arrive. Costco : Far better than Home Depot within retail is Costco, which reports on Thursday night. The quarter should be fine because it sells cheap gas to attract new cardholders . TJX Companies : Another retail winner. We bought ahead of last week’s earnings, and we’re glad we did. The T.J. Maxx and Marshalls parent may still be cheap enough to buy for those of you who are new to the Club. Yes, it is that good. Starbucks : We’re sticking with this one. We’re glad we didn’t bail when Wall Street got sick of it in the $80s and $90s range. Recent results show CEO Brian Niccol’s turnaround is working. There should be more upside for the stock as he works his way through the long list of problems. Procter & Gamble : Like Home Depot, P & G is a hedge. In this case, it’s a way to protect against a severe slowdown. We’re not saying one is imminent, but we also didn’t foresee a war in the Middle East. You just don’t know. Nike : This stock has been a disappointment. No denying that. If the apparel maker posts yet another lackluster quarter and Wall Street is forced to cut estimates again, we’ll have to dump it. CEO Elliott Hill might have just been dealt too bad a hand. The industrials Boeing : This is another one that Jim said new members should consider buying. As monthly deliveries increase, the stock should keep moving higher toward that $300 level. The stock is up nearly 2% Wednesday afternoon after CEO Kelly Ortberg said at a conference that it has met regulatory requirements to increase 737 Max production. Honeywell : We trimmed some on Tuesday because the stock is running for a preposterous reason: it owns half of a quantum computing company that is going public. That excitement has overwhelmed the market’s judgment. Honeywell’s stake in Quantinuum actually means very little to shareholders like us. The real catalyst is the industrial conglomerate’s upcoming split. DuPont : This one is a pastiche of chemicals, plastics, filtration, and safety materials. It’s hard for investors to get their arms around, though, which is why the stock’s been a bit directionless for some time. There’s plenty of value in DuPont. CEO Lori Koch just needs to bring it out soon, or else we’ll exit our position. Its former electronics business, now trading as Qnity, has been the real star of the show. Dover : This is a terrific conglomerate levered to so many different parts of a growing economy. But it’s hard to figure out what to make of Dover the stock. It seemingly trades up and down on nothing, while other names soar. This is one we’re monitoring closely to determine whether it deserves to stay in the portfolio. Linde : The good thing about this industrial gas company is that it’s exposed to a host of industries, including health care, semiconductors, wine, and soda. Linde is the kind of stock that does well when the economy is just OK and superb when the economy is humming. FedEx : We called up FedEx from our Bullpen watchlist on May 18. CEO Raj Subramaniam has done a great job improving FedEx’s operations, and the spin-off of its freight shipping business next week is another catalyst for making investors money. We love spin-offs around here because they help companies get a sharper focus. (See here for a full list of the stocks in Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust.)
Qualcomm shares surged 12% on Friday and are now up 75% in the past month, as the chipmaker’s increasingly central position in the physical AI boom becomes more apparent to Wall Street. The stock is trading at a record.

Although Qualcomm has fallen behind giants like Nvidia in the race for chips to power AI models and workloads, the company is using its dominance in smartphones to cement its role as a key player in connected devices, whether it’s eyeglasses, cars or robots.

OpenAI is also reportedly partnering with Qualcomm to develop an AI chip that could power a coming device run by AI agents.

“This company will be back in its former glory and will lead the connected device revolution,” said Ivan Feinseth, an analyst at Tigress Financial Partners who rates Qualcomm a buy. Investors are “waking up to this fact,” he said.

Regarding Qualcomm’s work with OpenAI, Feinseth said he’s bullish about the forthcoming device, calling it a “phone that will be an AI-based operating system that will do everything.”

On Thursday, Qualcomm announced a deal with automaker Stellantis, which said it will use the chipmaker’s Snapdragon processors to “support advanced, unified compute power across the entire vehicle, including cockpit, connectivity and advanced driver assist systems.”

“Customers will be able to enjoy a smooth, immersive, and safe auto-drive experience on city and highway roads, with multiple driving modes to choose from,” said Ned Curic, Stellantis’ head of product development, at the company’s investor day on Thursday.

Qualcomm has struck similar deals with Bosch, Volkswagen, Hyundai and BMW. In its most recent earnings report, Qualcomm said revenue in its automotive business climbed 38% from a year earlier to $1.3 billion. More than 1 million cars already operate their autonomous systems on Qualcomm processors, according to the company.

Friday’s stock pop is also tied to investor excitement around an entirely new business segment for Qualcomm: data center chips.

Announced last year, Qualcomm’s coming AI200 and AI250 are custom AI accelerators — a more programmable type of chip than Nvidia’s graphics processing units that have dominated AI workloads thus far. The chips are supposed to go on sale later this year, available in a full rack-scale system similar to Nvidia’s Vera Rubin and AMD’s coming Helios system.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said on the company’s earnings call in April that it would begin shipping data center chips to “a large hyperscaler” within the calendar year. Investors could hear more when Amon delivers a keynote address at the Computex conference in Taiwan on June 2, and at Qualcomm’s investor day on June 24.

The IPO reeled in $5.55 billion for Cerebras, which sold 30 million shares, according to a statement on Wednesday. Underwriters have the option to purchase an additional 4.5 million shares.

The company is hitting the market during a silicon renaissance. Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and memory maker Micron are each up more than 80% in the past month, and have notched much more dramatic gains over the past year as investors spread their chip bets from Nvidia to the wider universe of semiconductor companies now benefiting from the AI boom.

Cerebras’ offering is one of the largest tech IPOs in years. Uber raised about $8 billion in 2019, and the biggest since then for a U.S. tech company was Snowflake’s offering in 2020, which brought in over $3.8 billion. Expanding to include autos, electric-vehicle maker Rivian raised roughly $12 billion in 2021.

At the IPO price, Cerebras is now worth $56.4 billion on a fully diluted basis. Andrew Feldman, Cerebras’ co-founder and CEO, holds a stake worth about $1.9 billion.

Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, Cerebras has faced a rocky road getting to the Nasdaq, where it will trade under ticker symbol CBRS.

In September 2024, Cerebras filed to go public, but it withdrew its submission a little over a year later after its prospectus was heavily scrutinized due largely to the company’s heavy reliance on a single customer in the United Arab Emirates, Microsoft-backed G42.

Cerebras had started shifting its focus away from selling hardware systems and more toward providing a cloud service based on its chips. That means it’s going up against cloud providers such as Google and Microsoft, which are both listed as competitors, along with Oracle and CoreWeave.

In its refreshed prospectus, Cerebras said that 24% of revenue last year came from G42, down from 85% in 2024. However, last year Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in the UAE accounted for 62% of revenue.

Cerebras scored a big win in January, when it signed a deal with OpenAI worth over $20 billion for 750 megawatts in Cerebras computing capacity. Cerebras claims its Wafer Scale Engine 3 chips offer speed and price advantages over graphics processing units, such as Nvidia’s.

On May 4, Cerebras said it was looking to sell 28 million shares at $115 to $125 per share. A week later, Cerebras bumped up the offering to 30 million and raised the expected range to $150 to $160.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources, that weeks before Cerebras’ IPO, Arm and SoftBank both attempted to acquire it. Cerebras declined to comment.

In 2017, OpenAI looked at merging with Cerebras, viewing the chip company as potentially beneficial in the pursuit of artificial general intelligence, or AGI, according to testimony in Elon Musk’s trial against OpenAI.

“Exclusive access to Cerebras hardware would give OpenAI an overwhelming hardware advantage over Google,” Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s co-founder and president, wrote in an email.

Brockman held about 78,000 shares of Cerebras at the end of 2025, according to a filing in the case, which would be worth $14.4 million at the IPO price. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman held about 89,000 Cerebras shares as of Dec. 31, a filing from the case showed. That stake would now be worth about $16.5 million.

Other Cerebras investors include Fidelity, with a stake valued at about $3.8 billion, and Benchmark, which owns roughly $3.3 billion worth of shares. Foundation Capital’s holdings are valued at $2.8 billion, and Eclipse owns a $2.5 billion stake.

The IPO’s lead underwriters are Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Barclays and UBS.

Shares of SoftBank since the start of the year

The rally came after Wall Street’s tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite hit another record overnight, with U.S. artificial intelligence-linked stocks surging. Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. rose 18.6%, Arm Holdings advanced 13% and server maker Super Micro Computer Inc. soared 24.5%.

“Japan was shut for the back end of Golden Week while global risk assets ripped, so today’s move is the Nikkei pricing in three sessions in one,” said Global X ETFs’ investment strategist Billy Leung.

“SPX hit a fresh record and Nasdaq made another all-time high while Tokyo was closed, led by semis and AI names,” Leung said, adding that Advantest and Tokyo Electron are “the most liquid Japanese expressions of that AI semi trade.”

He added that easing geopolitical concerns also helped sentiment, with oil prices falling on signs of de-escalation between the U.S. and Iran.

SoftBank’s gains were amplified by its close ties to Arm and artificial intelligence firm OpenAI. “SoftBank is effectively the listed proxy for OpenAI and Arm,” Leung said.

The move also reflected growing investor optimism around data center infrastructure demand tied to AI inference and agentic AI systems.

Rolf Bulk, head of semiconductor and infrastructure at The Futurum Group, said the rally reflects growing optimism around the long-term demand outlook for AI infrastructure.

“I think it’s partly a continuation rally on the back of the strong AI-related share performance in the U.S. yesterday, as well as a reaction to AMD’s quarterly report, which has strong read-across for Arm,” Bulk said.

“CPUs are important for AI inference workloads; they handle for instance agent sandboxes, orchestration servers, database and API layers. With inference and agentic AI demand increasing, datacenter CPUs have become one of the key bottlenecks in the AI infrastructure build-out.”

Bulk pointed to AMD’s latest forecast that the total addressable market for datacenter CPUs could reach $120 billion by 2030, growing more than 35% annually.

Revenue for the company’s fiscal 2026 fourth quarter ended March 31 increased 20% year-over-year to $1.49 billion, ahead of the LSEG-compiled analysts’ consensus estimate of $1.47 billion. Non-GAAP earnings per share (EPS) increased 9% to 60 cents, beating the 58 cents expected. ARM YTD mountain Arm Holdings YTD Shares of Arm dipped roughly 6% in after-hours trading, giving back about half the gains they had during the regular session. We pointed out in Wednesday’s Morning Meeting for Club members that this could happen — great numbers and a possible pullback in the stock because of the run-up ahead of the print. It’s exactly what happened. The stock closed at a record high of $237 — padding out year-to-date gains to 117%. Bottom line When we started a position in Arm last month at around $170 per share, we wanted to ensure the portfolio had exposure to the data center CPU market. See, the artificial intelligence revolution has evolved in a major way over the past six months. At first, everything was about having the best graphics processing units (GPUs) to train large language models. Then the focus shifted to inference, and now those workloads are evolving again, from handling human-generated prompts to supporting continuous, agent-driven tasks. While GPUs still have a critical role to play in the future of AI, the once left for dead central processing units (CPUs) are having a major moment. This CPU renaissance was confirmed when Intel reported two weeks ago. Intel CEO Lip Bu Tan said on the April 23 earnings call that the CPU-to-GPU ratio in AI racks used to be 1-to-8. But with the rise of agentics, it’s more like 1-to-4 — and in the future, it could be parity, meaning 1-to-1. In other words, a lot more CPUs are needed than a few years ago. Advanced Micro Devices told a similar story on its earnings call Tuesday night. Quantifying how big the CPU market is getting, AMD CEO Lisa Su said she now expects the CPU server total addressable market to grow at a greater than 35% clip annually, reaching over $120 billion by 2030. In an interview with Jim on CNBC on Wednesday, Su said , “Agents are really driving tremendous demand in the overall AI adoption cycle.” It’s hard for a stock to go up three times on the same information, so we’re not surprised to see Arm give back some of its recent parabolic gains. However, we thought the post-earnings call solidified our thesis. Arm-based CPUs represent more than 50% share among top hyperscalers. AMD and Intel may claim they have the market share edge, but Arm pointed out on the call that the three largest AI accelerator providers pair their chips with Arm-based ones. Nvidia ‘s Rubin GPUs are integrated with Vera (Arm-based) CPUs; Google has its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) with its Axion (Arm-based) CPUs, and Amazon has Trainium with the Graviton (Arm-based) chips. All three are also portfolio names. “Whether it’s Nvidia, whether it’s Amazon, whether it’s Google, the very largest and most prevalent accelerators by volume are the TPU, it’s Trainium, and it’s Rubin. … Those all connect to Arm,” CEO Renee Haas explained on the call. TPUs from Alphabet ‘s Google are co-designed by fellow Club name Broadcom . Why we own it Chip designer Arm is at the center of the CPU revival. The move from AI training to running the models has reignited demand for central processing units. Arm has lucrative licensing and royalty businesses for its chip architecture, which is widely used by major hyperscalers. In March 2026, Arm unveiled the next chapter in its story: the company’s first in-house data center CPU, designed specifically for agentic AI workloads. Competitors : Advanced Micro Devices , Intel Most recent buy : April 20, 2026 Initiated : April 20, 2026 The biggest players in AI are increasingly favoring Arm-based CPUs over traditional x86 processors, an architecture dominated by AMD and Intel, because of their performance advantages and greater efficiency. While Arm’s business model has traditionally centered on collecting upfront license fees and royalties tied to chip shipments, the new leg to the story is the development of its own chip. The customer response to the ARM AGI CPU looks terrific. When introducing its first-ever in-house data center CPU at its Arm Everywhere event back in March, the company said it had a line of sight to more than $1 billion of demand over the next two years. It hasn’t even been two months, and management has already doubled this view. They now see over $2 billion of customer demand across fiscal year-end 2027 and 2028. However, they did soften this upbeat guide slightly by noting they are maintaining the initial $1 billion outlook because they have to line up the supply chain capacity to meet the demand. Concerns over these supply constraints are what caused the stock to give up its initial pop after hours. As we said when we first added Arm to the portfolio, the company has a great sales pitch with its CPU. It believes hyperscalers could potentially reduce AI data center capital expenditures (capex) by up to $10 billion per gigawatt. That’s everything, given the market’s focus on free cash flow. The longer-term target is still $15 billion in fiscal year-end 2031, and these sales are not expected to cannibalize Arm’s existing business, which is an important push back to a bear thesis. “The primary reason we did this,” Haas said, in reference to developing its own chip, “was that our customers asked for it. At the end of the day, we are responding to customer demand in a market.” The bottom line is that demand for Arm-based data center CPUs is off the charts and supportive of strong double-digit revenue growth for the foreseeable future. The story gets even better with the success of its in-house chips, and now it’s up to management to navigate a tight and complex supply chain environment to over-deliver on its goals. We’re maintaining our price target of $250 and hold-equivalent 2 rating, given the recent parabolic move in share price. In the short time since we put Arm into the portfolio, the stock has gained nearly 40% as of Wednesday’s close. If the after-hours move holds, we’ll be giving back some of that advance. But the rally in Arm shares our April 20 initiation and in 2026, for that matter, has been nothing short of incredible. Commentary As for the quarterly results, License and Other revenue grew about 29% year over year to $819 million, beating Street estimates. These revenue streams are from the upfront license fee the company collects from customers who want access to its CPU architecture and designs. Royalty revenue increased 11% year over year to $671 million, but that actually missed what the Street expected. However, the shortfall was probably due to the smartphone market. This piece of the business still grew year over year, but there’s weakness in the end market due to the memory shortage. More importantly, the company saw an accelerated ramp of Arm-based server chips by all major hyperscalers, as well as increased deployment of data center networking chips. We were also pleased to see Arm’s gross margins and operating margins come in better than expected. Arm’s current revenue streams are all from licenses and royalties, creating some extremely attractive gross margins. They were 98.32% on a non-GAAP basis in the quarter. (GAAP stands for generally accepted accounting principles. Non-GAAP, sometimes referred to as adjusted, strips out one-time factors in hopes of delivering an apples-to-apples comparison from quarter to quarter.) Non-GAAP operating margins were better than expected, too, and we should see more operational leverage in the future as cost growth decelerates from a 26% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in fiscal year 2024 through fiscal year 2026 to a mid-teens CAGR from fiscal year 2026 through fiscal year 2031. Outlook Arm provides guidance on a quarterly basis. For the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, the company expects revenue of $1.26 billion plus or minus $50 million, meaning a range of $1.255 billion to $1.265 billion. That’s slightly better than the consensus estimate of $1.25 billion, according to LSEG. (However, that would be lower sequentially as fiscal Q4 was $1.49 billion.) The company expects non-GAAP operating expenses of $760 million, which is a little higher than the FactSet consensus estimate of $742 million. Non-GAAP earnings per share are expected to be 40 cents, plus or minus 4 cents, meaning a range of 36 cents to 44 cents. This is above the consensus estimate of 36 cents, according to LSEG. Here’s a recap of Wednesday’s key moments. 1. The S & P 500 and Nasdaq touched record highs on Wednesday on progress toward a possible U.S.-Iran peace deal. “Oil went down, interest rates [bond yields] went down, and that allowed a roaring tech rally,” Jim Cramer said. AI and data center infrastructure stocks continued to lead the market higher, helped by a new optical fiber partnership between Corning and Nvidia . “It does matter,” Cramer said, reiterating his view that the economy is increasingly being driven by compute and AI. Corning shares rose 11%. We’re putting together a story on all of Corning’s Investor Day news, including new guidance. Check your inboxes and texts shortly for our alert. 2. Shares of Arm Holdings climbed 12% ahead of earnings, but Jim warned investors not to expect a huge post-report rally even if the chip maker delivers strong results. “The problem is Arm is going up ahead of the news,” Jim said, noting that sharp pre-earnings gains can limit upside afterward. Investors will be watching for royalty growth and updates on new customers when Arm reports Wednesday evening. While Arm-based CPUs continue gaining traction with hyperscaler customers like fellow Club names Amazon and Alphabet, Jim emphasized that competition remains intense. “It’s Intel , it’s them [Arm], and it’s AMD — and that’s a very powerful series of enemies,” he said. 3. Alphabet and Amazon “may be the two best” members of the Magnificent Seven , Jim said, adding that Nvidia still belongs in that conversation as well. Cramer said he is “so glad we own Amazon.” He also called it “very right” that the Club re-bought Alphabet at the end of last year after exiting the stock in March 2025. The discussion came after reports that Anthropic committed to spend as much as $200 billion with Google Cloud over the next five years. Jim said he regrets not re-buying Advanced Micro Devices like he did with Alphabet. 4. Stocks covered in Wednesday’s rapid fire at the end of the video were: Uber , Disney , Solstice Advanced Materials , and Kraft Heinz .
