A man inserts a half-full Coca-Cola can into a glass rummy wealth of powerful drain cleaner to illustrate the “plastic” layer inside the glass in this Instagram video.
A video showing a man dissolving a Coca-Cola can with drain cleaner was shared on social media. Inside, the man finds a thin, translucent layer that looks like disintegrated plastic. “Another reason to avoid these drinks,” he wrote on Instagram after posting the footage.
The footage was uploaded to Instagram by Adithya Nataraj. He begins by using sandpaper to smooth rummy gold down the outside of the can. When he’s done, he carefully removes most of the drink from the can and puts a portion of it into a glass filled with potent drain cleaner.
The can starts to dissolve rummy circle nearly instantly, and within two minutes or so, the metal portion vanishes. Then a tiny layer of “plastic” shows through.
At the end of the movie, Nataraj says, “Even though you are buying a metal can, you are still drinking from plastic.” Imagine then the total quantity of microplastics that are ingested each time one of them is consumed.
